Cotton, Cheshire

Cranage Hall is a former country house in the village of Cranage, Cheshire, England. It was built in 1828–29 for Lawrence Armitstead, and designed by Lewis Wyatt. In 1932 a parallel wing was added. Since the hospital closed, it has been used as a hotel and conference centre owned and run by the Principal Hayley hotel group. The building is constructed in red brick with blue brick diapering, and in yellow sandstone. It is roofed in slate. The architectural style is Elizabethan. The building is in two storeys plus a basement, and it has eight bays. The first and fourth bays are in stone; the others are in brick. In front of the sixth and seven bays is a two-storey stone porch with four fluted Doric columns, an entablature with a frieze, and a balcony with an openwork balustrade. Between the third and fourth bays is a slim octagonal tower with an ogee cap and a weathervane. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form centre located in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England. It was founded in 1978 as a purpose-built 11–18 comprehensive and sixth form. It was opened in September 1978. The school is a designated academy and Training School which has also been accredited with both Sportsmark and Artsmark awards.

Cranage is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. According to the 2001 Official UK Census, the population of the entire civil parish was 1,131 which had risen to 1,184 by the 2011 census.

St Luke's Church is in the village of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England on the A50 road at its junction with the A535 road. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Congleton.

Holmes Chapel is a large village and civil parish in the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. Until 1974 the parish was known as Church Hulme. Holmes Chapel is about 8 miles (13 km) north of Crewe and 21 miles (34 km) south of Manchester. The population of the village was recorded as 5,605 as of the 2011 census. It has however grown due to a number of large housing developments. According to the Index of Deprivation, the village ranks as the 18th least deprived ward in the United Kingdom (out of 8,414). Holmes Chapel railway station has services to Manchester and Crewe, making the village convenient for commuters. Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve lies 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east of the village and Goostrey lies to the north. The village has a number of public houses. There is a major supermarket (Aldi), several smaller supermarkets, a precinct, and numerous outlets including a fish and chip shop, off licence, pizzeria, estate agent, a chemist and a library, and a bakery. The town has one secondary school, Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, and two primary schools: Holmes Chapel Primary School and Hermitage Primary School. It has a GP Practice on London Road. Cotton Hall, where John Cotton was resident in 1400, remained the family seat until the 18th century when Daniel Cotton married into the Booths of Twemlow; a cadet branch of the family were created baronets and then Viscounts Combermere. Cotton Hall dates from at least the 15th century with some additions in the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries. A farm and estate, just off Middlewich Road, Cotton Hall is today listed Grade II* under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, as amended, for its special architectural or historic interest.

Holmes Chapel railway station serves the village of Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, England. The station is 8½ miles (14 km) north east of Crewe on the Crewe to Manchester Line.

Royal Air Force Cranage or more simply RAF Cranage is a former Royal Air Force station operated during the Second World War. It was located just to the North of Middlewich, Cheshire, England.

Allostock is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, about five miles south of Knutsford and 20 miles south of Manchester. Allostock was formerly in the borough of Vale Royal until it was abolished on 1 April 2009 to form Cheshire West and Chester. Allostock is located on an affluent of the river Weaver. It had a population of 816 according to the 2011 census data as well as 325 households.John Bartholemew wrote this in 1887 about Allostock: "Allostock, township, Great Budworth par., mid. Cheshire, 5 miles S. of Knutsford, 3017 ac., pop. 501."

The manor of Bradwall was a manorial estate (i.e. the land) in the parish of Bradwall near Sandbach in Cheshire, which dates back to the 13th century. Several families have been associated with either the manor, or the more recent country seat at Bradwall Hall.

Bradwall is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East, about 2 mi (3.2 km) northwest of Sandbach in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, and about 20 mi (32 km) south of Manchester. According to the 2011 census, the population of the entire parish was 182. The area is predominantly agricultural, with no manufacturing or retail outlets. The village is not mentioned in the 11th-century Domesday survey, but from the 13th century gained notability as the manorial estate of Richard de Bradwall and his successors, including the families of Venables, Berington and Oldfield. From the early 19th century, it became the seat of the Latham family of Bradwall who resided at Bradwall Hall until its demolition in the early 20th century. Bradwall hosts social events at the Village Hall, horse trial competitions (eventing) at Manor farm, and coarse fishing at Field Farm Fisheries. The Wesleyan Chapel Methodist Church has been the only place of worship since 1882 and closed in September 2013. The manufacturer of Foden Trucks and their award-winning Fodens Motor Works Band, were based in Bradwall until a boundary change in 1936 placed them in the adjacent parish of Sandbach.

Kinderton is an electoral ward in Middlewich, Cheshire, England. Kinderton was also historically the name of a township in Middlewich on the opposite side of the River Croco from the current ward. In the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales (1870–72) John Marius Wilson described Kinderton: KINDERTON-WITH-HULME, a township in Middlewich parish, Cheshire; immediately E of the town of Middlewich. Acres, 1, 637. Real property, £3, 936; of which £110 are in gas works-Pop., 477. Houses, 101. The manor belonged anciently to the Venables, passed to the Vernons, and belongs now to J. F. France, Esq. A house erected by the Minshalls is here, and bears date 1616. Kinderton is generally believed to be the Condate of the Romans; a Roman road, called Kind street or King street, went from it to Manchester; and other roads went hence to Chesterton, Wroxeter, Chester, and Warrington. A Danish camp of 10 acres is at Harbours Field, between the rivers Croco and Dane.
