Templin station

Templin (German: [tɛmˈpliːn] ) is a small town in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, Germany. Though it has a population of only 17,127 (2006), in terms of area it is, with 377.01 km2 (145.56 sq mi), the second largest town in Brandenburg (after Wittstock) and the seventh largest town in Germany. The town is located in the south of the rural Uckermark region and its capital Prenzlau, north of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. The municipality comprises the villages of Ahrensdorf, Bebersee, Beutel, Densow, Gandenitz, Gollin, Gross Dölln, Gross Väter, Grunewald, Hammelspring, Herzfelde, Hindenburg, Klosterwalde, Petznick, Röddelin, Storkow and Vietmannsdorf.

The Pulverturm in Templin is a tower on the old town fortifications of Templin in Brandenburg. It is located in the eastern part of Templin's Altstadt not far from the Prenzlau Gate. The tower was built in the early 15th century from an old semi-circular defensive structure called a Wiekhaus in the Templin town wall, which itself is a protected monument. It is made of brick and was covered by a massive brick conical spire. Because the roof was solid, it was nonflammable and acted as a powder tower for the storage of gunpowder.

Templin Stadt (German: Bahnhof Templin Stadt) is a railway station in the town of Templin, Brandenburg, Germany. The station lies of the Löwenberg–Prenzlau railway and the train services are operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn. The station used to be known as Templin Vorstadt.

The Lehmann-Garten (2,500 m2) is a botanical garden located at Prenzlauer Allee 28, Templin, Brandenburg, Germany. It is open Wednesday mornings without charge. The garden was originally established in 1912 by Professor Gustav Lehmann on the grounds of the Joachimsthalschen Gymnasium, and used for educational and experimental purposes. It was recreated in 1988-1989 as a project of the Association for the Conservation and Reclamation of Crops in Brandenburg (Verein zur Erhaltung und Rekultivierung von Nutzpflanzen in Brandenburg), and used primarily by Gymnasium students for classes in advanced genetics. In winter herbal teas are served from 15 kinds of plants harvested from the garden.

Uckermark Lakes Nature Park is a nature park and reserve in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. It covers an area of 895 km2 (346 sq mi). It was established on May 3, 1997, and is located on the northern edge of Brandenburg state. The nature park is bordered to the north by the Feldberg Lake District Nature Park, to the west by the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park and to the southeast by the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. The landscape was marked by the last ice age 15.000 years ago: pushed moraine with numerous lakes and ponds, extensive woodlands, mires, dry meadows and heaths. Many left behind blocks of stone, called erratics, are evidence of the glaciers from Scandinavia. The Heraldic beast of the nature park is the osprey, which lives here in an unusual density. Other rare animals such as the brown trout, the European otter, the European pond turtle and the European crayfish, are living there. One of the rare plants, the straw yellow Early Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. ochroleuca (Europe)) based here.

Carinhall was the country residence of Hermann Göring, built in the 1930s on a large hunting estate north-east of Berlin in the Schorfheide Forest, in the north of Brandenburg, between the lakes of Großdöllner See and Wuckersee.

The Hohenlychen Sanatorium was a complex of sanatoriums in Lychen, Uckermark district (a bit north of Berlin), Germany, that was in use from 1902 to 1945. The complex was originally built in 1902 to house tubercular children. By the 1930s the Hohenlychen Sanatorium had become one of the main medical facilities of the Schutzstaffel, where injured or convalescing SS-men were treated.
