Main station (CTA)

Evanston Main Street is the southernmost of the three commuter railroad stations in Evanston, Illinois. It is served by Metra's Union Pacific North Line trains, which go south to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago and as far north as Kenosha, Wisconsin. Travel time to Ogilvie is typically 23 minutes, but can be as high as 26 minutes during rush hour. In Metra's zone-based fare system, the station is in zone C. As of 2018, Evanston Main Street is the 41st busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 1,130 weekday boardings. The station does not contain a ticket agent booth; passengers must purchase their tickets on board the train. As of April 25, 2022, Evanston Main Street is served by 30 inbound trains and 28 outbound trains on weekdays, by 12 trains in each direction on Saturdays, and by all nine trains in each direction on Sundays. During the summer concert season, the extra weekend train to Ravinia Park also stops here. The station is located on Main Street between Chicago Avenue and Custer Avenue, with CTA's Main station immediately to the east. It is one of two Metra stations in Evanston to provide direct transfers to the CTA rail system, the other being the Davis Street station. The neighboring area contains multi-story apartment buildings and the Main Street Station Shopping District. Main Street station also houses a cultural center known as Evanston Arts Depot, which houses the offices of the Custer's Last Stand festival and has performance space for Piccolo Theatre.

Fountain Plaza Apartments is a historic apartment building at 830-856 Hinman Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The three-story brick building was built in 1922. Architect John Nyden, who also designed multiple other apartment buildings in Evanston, designed the building in the Classical Revival style. The building's design includes Palladian doors with fanlights, limestone quoins, and a hip roof with parapets and a cornice. The central courtyard is both raised and nearly surrounded by the building, providing privacy despite the building's proximity to a commercial district.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

Oceanique is a fine dining gourmet French-American cuisine restaurant that serves seafood in Evanston, Illinois. Oceanique has consistently been ranked as the number one seafood restaurant in the Chicago metro area by the Zagat Guide. "Make It Better Magazine" deemed it the best fine dining restaurant in 2014 Best of the North Shore. It opened in 1989 and has been in business for a total of 25 years. Mark Grosz is the head chef as well as the owner of the establishment. It is located at 505 Main Street two blocks away from the Main St. 'L' Station. Oceanique has an adjoining outdoor patio that customers can use, weather permitting.

Colonnade Court is a historic apartment building at the northwest corner of Main Street and Hinman Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The four-story building was built in 1928–29. The building's first floor is used as commercial space, while the other three floors house apartments. Like many of Evanston's apartment buildings, the building has a "U" shape with a central courtyard; however, the courtyard is on the second floor to separate it from the commercial space. Architects Thielbar & Fugard designed the building to imitate an Italian Renaissance villa. The building's design includes a colonnade concealing its courtyard from the street, arched entrances, and a bracketed cornice.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

The Building at 417–419 Lee Street is a historic apartment building in Evanston, Illinois. The two-story four-flat building was built in 1902. Architect Edgar O. Blake, an Evanston architect who had designed houses in the city since the 1870s, designed the building. The building's design includes a Georgian entrance with side columns, sidelights, and a fanlight, limestone banding, a wooden entablature, and a brick parapet. The four apartments are an early example of upper-class apartment design in Evanston; of particular note are its screened porches, which were a precursor to the sunrooms commonly seen in later buildings.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

The Frederick B. Carter Jr. House is a historic house located at 1024 Judson Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. Architect Walter Burley Griffin designed the Prairie School house, which was built in 1910. The house is an early example of Griffin's attempts to develop a style independent of his mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright. The exterior of the house is made of brick and stucco with wooden half-timbering and trim. The house's form is distinguished by several projecting and receding masses. Its roof includes a large gable in front and overhanging eaves, both over the gable and on the flat section of roof to the side.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 30, 1974.

Westminster is a historic apartment building at 632-640 Hinman Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The three-story brick building was built in 1912. The building has a U-shaped layout with a wide central courtyard. Architect John A. Nyden, who lived in Evanston and designed several other apartment buildings in the city, designed the Prairie School building. The building's design features limestone banding, arched entrances, wood mullions on the windows, and a hipped roof with a bracketed cornice.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

Reba Place Fellowship is a Christian intentional community in Evanston, Illinois, within the Chicago metro area. Founded in 1957, Reba Place Fellowship is the oldest urban Christian commune in the United States. Families and singles share life together in houses and apartments owned by Reba Place in two different Chicago neighborhoods, one in Evanston and the other in Rogers Park. The community shares a common purse, where paychecks are pooled, and members are given monthly allowances. After distributing personal and family living expenses, Reba uses the remainder "to further God's Kingdom," by meeting needs within the group, or furthering ministries outside of the community.

The Forest and Annex is a historic apartment building at 901-905 Forest Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. Owner Alfred B. Andrews built The Forest in 1909 and added the annex to the original building in 1912. Andrews would later author Evanston's early zoning ordinances, and he planned his building accordingly, with a spacious lawn providing plenty of room between it and the street. The building has a Prairie School design with a horizontal emphasis, patterned brick, and wide eaves. The 11 apartments in the building all included features such as wood paneling and flooring, fireplaces, and rooms for housekeepers.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

The Building at 813–815 Forest Avenue is a historic apartment building in Evanston, Illinois. The three-story brick building was built in 1929. The building has an L-shaped layout with a half courtyard, a relatively common pattern among Evanston's apartments. Architect Jens J. Jensen designed the building in the Tudor Revival style, a popular choice for the time. The building's design includes Tudor arched entrances, lancet windows, projecting bays, and a crenellated tower.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.

South Boulevard (shortened to South Blvd) is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, on the Purple Line at 602 South Boulevard in Evanston, Illinois (directional coordinates 525 north, 500 west). In 1931, the old Calvary station was replaced by South Boulevard and it was opened on July 1, 1931. Designed by Arthur U. Gerber, South Boulevard consists of a winding central platform to the shape of the street that overlooks. It is now very similar to the original station, only catenary maintained by steel arches disappeared in 1973 during the installation of an electric rail to the ground while the lighting was renewed in 1998. For the rest, except for renovation from 2004 to 2005, the structure has not changed.

Stoneleigh Manor is a historic apartment building at the northwest corner of Michigan Avenue and Main Street in Evanston, Illinois. The three-story brick building was built in 1913. Architect John A. Nyden, an Evanston resident who designed several apartment buildings in the city, designed the building in the Prairie School style. The building's design includes canopied entrances flanked by columns and leadlights, limestone banding, and wide overhanging eaves. Each floor of the building has four rooms, which included amenities such as sunrooms, fireplaces, a vacuum cleaning system, and maid's rooms in some units.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 1984.
