Queen's Market, also known as Queen's Road Market, and Green Street Market, is a historic street market in the London Borough of Newham. It lies adjacent to Green Street and Upton Park tube station. The street market originated in Green Street at the boundary between East Ham and West Ham in the late Victorian era when the new suburb of East Ham began to be developed. Originally the stall holders were English Cockney, Gypsy communities and Jewish traders from Whitechapel and the East End, selling clothing and vegetables. The traders were pushed into Queen's Road in 1904 to stop them obstructing the main road and to allow for the passage of trams. It was not until 1925 that the borough obtained statutory powers to regulate street markets. Since the late 1960s and 1970s South Asians from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Asian-Africans started moving families into homes locally and set up stalls and shops along Green Street and inside Queen's Market. Today Queen's Market has a specialist retail offer of South Asian and African food and textiles. Queen's is one of London's most ethnically diverse street markets serving communities from African, Afro-Caribbean, South Asian, South American and newer European communities with cheap, affordable and culturally-appropriate food and clothes. In the 1960s the mock-Brutalist exterior around the markets space frame structure was covered with a roof, making it one of London's few covered street markets. The market is popular, serving visitors beyond Newham and remains the most successful publicly-owned street market in Newham. It is open 4 days a week (open days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and has started a Sunday Market selling second-hand goods. In November 2006, in the face of a vigorous local campaign of opposition, Newham Council proposed a redevelopment of the existing market site which was to include a supermarket and luxury housing above a much smaller covered market. Following the local campaign, in May 2009 then Mayor of London Boris Johnson directed Newham Council to refuse planning permission to redevelop the market.A notable trader at the Queen's is Muhammad Shahid Nazir, more commonly known as the '£1 Fish Man'. He rose to fame as a fish trader at the Queen's Market through his composition of a market trader's song. It became a viral hit through shoppers at the Queen's Market recording him and uploading to YouTube. It has also given Nazir a record deal, with his single released on 7 December 2012.

Green Street is a road in the London Borough of Newham, East London, which forms much of the boundary between East and West Ham. Green Street is best known for the former Boleyn Ground, home to West Ham United from 1904 to 2016, and for its wide range of shops and market outlets. It was also the site of Green Street House - also known as Boleyn Castle - for more than 400 years until demolished in 1955. Green Street House was located between the street and the Boleyn Ground. Green Street runs from the originally Roman Romford Road, in the north, to the Barking Road in the south. The junction with Barking Road, by the Boleyn Tavern, was known as Morley's Corner after the onetime owners of Green Street House. Morley's Corner is the site of the Champions statue commemorating West Ham's players who helped win the 1966 World Cup: Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.

Upton Park is an area of the East London borough of Newham, centred on Green Street which is the boundary between West Ham and East Ham. West Ham United Football Club formerly played at the Boleyn Ground, commonly known as Upton Park. The term 'Upton Park' first applied to a housing estate developed to the east of West Ham Park in the 1880s. The estate took its name from the adjacent village of Upton with the suffix 'Park' added for marketing reasons. The estate's developers paid for a new station to be built which was named after the estate. Consequently, the area surrounding the station became known as Upton Park rather than the term being limited to the original housing estate. Originally a part of the hundred of Becontree, and part of the historic county of Essex, since 1965, Upton Park has been part of the London Borough of Newham, a local government district of Greater London.

St Stephen's Church, East Ham, was a church on Green Street in East Ham, east London. Its nave and aisles were completed in 1887 and its chancel, north chapel, south chancel aisle, vestries and choir in 1894. It founded three mission churches - St Alban's Church, St Michael's Church, Rutland Road and St Cuthbert's Church, Florence Road. It was renovated in 1938 but severely damaged two years later in the London Blitz - St Cuthbert's was also destroyed during the war. The congregation moved to St Michael's but post-war the decision was taken not to rebuild St Stephen's and St Cuthbert's and the former was demolished in 1954 and the parish merged into that of St Edmund's.

Green Street House, usually known as Boleyn Castle, was a stately home in East Ham in the modern London Borough of Newham, East London. The alternative name derives from the local legend linking the house with Anne Boleyn and from its imposing appearance, notably the castle-like structure called Anne Boleyn’s Tower which lay immediately adjacent to Green Street. The house lay at the southern end of Green Street, from which it takes its name, a street which forms the boundary between West and East Ham. West Ham United's former Boleyn Ground was built immediately to the east of the House and took its name from the alternative name for the house. In its early years the club referred to their new ground as the Boleyn Castle with Boleyn Ground subsequently becoming the usual term.

Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple (East London) is a Swaminarayan Temple in east London, in the London Borough of Newham that comes under the Narnarayan Dev Gadi and is part of the Hindu faith.The main Hindu temple (Mandir), with an upper floor used for seminars and other gatherings, and a library selling books and other religious material. A kitchen and dining area a few doors down, which was previously used as a temporary Mandir while the main Mandir was being reconstructed. The organization is a charity registered and was formed in 1986.

Our Lady of Compassion Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Upton Park area of east London, dedicated to Our Lady of Compassion. Catholics in the area had previously worshipped at chapels attached to schools in the area until the church and its parish were both established in 1911.

The Boleyn Ground, often referred to as Upton Park, was a football stadium located in Upton Park, east London. It was the home of West Ham United from 1904 to 2016, and was briefly used by Charlton Athletic in the early 1990s during their years of financial difficulty. The seating capacity of the ground at closure was 35,016.From the 2016–17 season, West Ham United have played their home matches at the London Stadium in nearby Stratford. The last first-class match played at the Boleyn Ground was on 10 May 2016, a 3–2 West Ham United win in the Premier League against Manchester United. The stadium was demolished in 2016 to make way for a new development.

The Boleyn Tavern is a Grade II listed public house in East Ham, East London, England at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street.It was built in 1899–1900, with the entrance consoles bearing a 1900 date. The Tavern was frequented by West Ham United F.C. supporters due to its proximity to West Ham's ground, the Boleyn Ground. Often at risk from vandalism from opposing supporters, it would have its windows boarded up for a local derby such as West Ham and Millwall.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.

The World Cup Sculpture, or simply The Champions, is a bronze statue of the 1966 World Cup Final located near the site of West Ham United Football Club's former Boleyn Ground (Upton Park) stadium in the London Borough of Newham, England. It depicts a famous victory scene photographed after the final, held at the old Wembley Stadium in London, featuring Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Ray Wilson. It remains the only time the England national football team have won the World Cup, and England captain Moore is pictured held shoulder high by his colleagues, holding the Jules Rimet Trophy aloft. Jointly commissioned by Newham Council and West Ham United, the statue stands at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street, near the former location of the Boleyn Ground. It commemorates West Ham's contribution to the victory, with Moore, Hurst and Peters having all been West Ham players at the time of the 1966 World Cup. Sculpted by the Royal Sculptor Philip Jackson, it was unveiled in 2003 by Prince Andrew, president of the Football Association. Jackson went on to also sculpt the statue of Bobby Moore unveiled at the new Wembley when it opened in 2007.

St Thomas' Church, Plaistow was a Church of England church on Northern Road in Plaistow, Newham. It opened in 1898 as a mission church of St Mary's Church, Plaistow. It was demolished around 1950.

The Forest Gate raid was a Metropolitan Police operation on 2 June 2006. It resulted in the arrest of two men at their east London homes in Forest Gate by police acting on what they described as "specific intelligence" that they might be terrorists in possession of a chemical bomb. One of the men was shot during the raid. No explosive devices were found during the raid, nor was there any evidence of terrorist activity. The men were released without charge. Mohammed Abdul Kahar was again cleared, after 44 indecent images of children had been found on a computer's hard drive, an external hard drive, and a mobile phone recovered during the raid. No charges were filed, as: "The prosecution was not satisfied that Mr Kahar had the necessary computer expertise to enable him ... to transfer the images to the Nokia phone."Subsequent inquiries cleared the officers involved of any "criminal or disciplinary offence". Metropolitan Police apologised for the raid. The apology was welcomed by the families affected, but they demanded the investigation of the steps the police took to assess the quality of the intelligence leading to the raids.The cost of the operation exceeded two million pounds.
