Heaton Castle

Pallinsburn House is an 18th-century country house situated at Ford, Northumberland. It is a Grade II* listed building. The house was built about 1763, in a Jacobean style originally with a three-storey frontage, for John Askew, (High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1776), a younger son of Dr Adam Askew of Storrs Hall. The Askew family occupied the house until it was sold in 1911 to Major Charles Mitchell DSO, the grandson of the wealthy Tyneside shipbuilder, Charles Mitchell. Over the years, Major Mitchell carried out extensive improvements and alterations. In 1933 work was begun to remove the third storey of the central block. While this work was carried out, The Mitchells moved to Morris Hall, Norham. The house was sold in 2005 together with 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) for £6.5 million. The contents were sold at auction the following year and realised £840,000.The name of the small river, burn in Scots, is said to derive from Saint Paulinus baptising people of the region.

Twizell Castle (also spelt Twizel) is a Grade II* listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument which stands on a bend of the River Till at Tillmouth Park, Northumberland, northern England. Below it, the medieval Twizell Bridge spans the river. It is located 10 miles (16 km) south-west of Berwick Upon Tweed. The site is visible from a public footpath, which passes the castle from the road. The gardens of the castle contain the earthwork remains of the once lost medieval village of Twizell, whilst the massive ruin presents the remains of an 18th-century castle which was never completed.

Branxton is a village and civil parish in northern Northumberland, England. It lies about 3 miles (5 km) from the England-Scotland border and about 4 miles (6 km) from the Scottish border town of Coldstream, just off the A697 Newcastle-Edinburgh road. At the 2011 Census, the population of the parish was 123, increasing slightly from 121 at the 2001 Census.

Crookham is a village on the River Till in Northumberland, in England. It is situated approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) to the east of Coldstream and 14 km (8.7 mi) northwest of Wooler. It has three farms, Crookham Sandyford, Crookham Eastfield, and Crookham Westfield. Recorded as "Crucum" in 1244, the village name derived from the Old English for "Settlement at the Bend" (of the River Till).

Twizell railway station served the historic village of Twizell, Northumberland, England, from 1861 to 1955 on the Kelso Branch.

Etal Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in the village of Etal, Northumberland, England. It was built around 1341 by Robert Manners, and comprised a residential tower, a gatehouse and a corner tower, protected by a curtain wall. The castle was involved both in local feuding and the border wars between England and Scotland. There was a battle between the rival Manners and Heron families outside the walls in 1428, and in 1513 it was briefly captured by King James IV of Scotland during his invasion of England. The castle passed into the hands of the Crown in 1547 and was garrisoned as part of the border defences, but fell into disrepair and was abandoned as a military fortification after 1603. In the 18th century it ceased to be used as a domestic dwelling and became ruinous. In the 21st century the castle is owned by the Joicey family, but managed by English Heritage. Open to the public, it is protected under UK law as an ancient monument and a Grade I listed building.

Norham railway station served the village of Norham, Northumberland, England, from 1849 to 1965 on the Kelso Branch.

Etal ( EE-təl) is a small village in the far north of the county of Northumberland, England, in the civil parish of Ford. It lies on a bridging point of the River Till ten miles south west of Berwick-upon-Tweed, and includes the substantial ruins of the medieval Etal Castle, now owned by English Heritage. It has just one residential street, and has a population of less than fifty.

Norham ( NORR-əm) is a village and civil parish in Northumberland, England. It is 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Berwick on the south side of the River Tweed where it is the border with Scotland.

Duddo Five Stones (grid reference NT930437) is a stone circle north of Duddo in North Northumberland, approximately 4miles (6 km) South of the Scottish Border. The stones were known as the Four Stones until 1903, when the fifth stone was re-erected to improve the skyline. There were originally seven stones, the empty sockets of two stones being found on the western side during excavation in the 1890s.The stones are formed of a soft sandstone. They have become deeply fissured by natural weathering since erection in the Early Bronze Age, approximately 4000 years ago. The site of the Duddo Stones offers panoramic views of the Cheviot Hills to the South and the Lammermuir Hills to the north. The circle is accessible via the B6354 road, through a gate and up a path. The stones are on private land with no formal right of way, but the landowner has cleared a permissive path across the field to the stones. The location was the subject of an archeological investigation in 2008.

The River Till is a river of north-eastern Northumberland. It is a tributary of the River Tweed, of which it is the only major tributary to flow wholly in England. Upstream of the locality of Bewick Bridge, 8.5 km to the southeast of Wooler the river is known as the River Breamish. It rises on Comb Fell in the Cheviot Hills. Its tributaries include Wooler Water, which originates in the Cheviots, and the River Glen in Glendale. It meets the Tweed a mile to the west of Twizell Bridge, 4 km downstream of Coldstream. According to local folklore: Tweed said to Till "What gars ye rin sae stil?" Says Till to Tweed, "Though ye rin wi' speed And I rin slaw Whar ye droon yin man I droon twa"Recent environmental projects have included an attempt to conserve the native brown trout.

The Ladykirk and Norham Bridge connects Ladykirk in the Borders, Scotland, with Norham in Northumberland, England, across the River Tweed. It's one of three bridges that cross it along the Anglo-Scottish Border, the others being the Coldstream Bridge and the Union Chain Bridge; out of these, the Ladykirk and Norham Bridge is the youngest, opening to the public in 1888.
