The West End is an area of Dundee, Scotland. Bordered to the south by the River Tay, to the north by Blackness and to the east by the city centre, the West End is primarily an affluent residential area surrounding its main commercial thoroughfare, Perth Road, and the main campus of the University of Dundee.Since 1998, the city council has developed a "Cultural Quarter" at the boundary between the city centre and the West End which is now home to the Dundee Repertory Theatre, the Whitehall Theatre, the Dundee Science Centre and Dundee Contemporary Arts building as well as other commercial galleries and studios, and the university's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

Blackness is an area of the city of Dundee. Broadly, Blackness is located to the north of the city's West End and is centred on the Blackness Road, where a number of small, local shops are located. The presence of the Scouring Burn (now diverted underground) meant that the area was attractive for industrial development in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, modern steam powered machinery requiring a substantial water supply. Part of Blackness is a conservation area, noted for its "industrial and social significance ... fine mills [and] narrow cobbled streets". The Verdant Works is in Blackness.The Brooksbank Centre in Blackness commemorates Mary Brooksbank, local resident, revolutionary and songwriter.

Harris Academy is a co-educational comprehensive school in the West End of Dundee, Scotland. Harris Academy was founded in 1885 and is the oldest state school in Dundee. The Western Cemetery in Dundee, Scotland, is a still-operational cemetery founded in the mid 19th century. It rises northwards from the Perth Road, with terraces in its upper sections. The Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression, located within the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, is a research facility working in the field of gene expression and chromosome biology. Previously part of the Dundee Biocentre and receiving significant Wellcome Trust funding from 1995 onwards, it was awarded Wellcome Trust Centre status in 2008. Professor Tom Owen-Hughes is the centre's director. The centre aims to enhance our understanding of how genes are regulated at both the single cell and whole organism level. Researchers use a wide range of advanced techniques, including live cell fluorescent imaging and mass spectrometry-based proteomics, to explore the functions of key proteins and molecular mechanisms in cell biology.

Dundee Synagogue in Dundee, Scotland was the place of worship of the Tayside and Fife Jewish Community, which was established in 1878 under its former name of the Dundee Hebrew Congregation. The synagogue building, designed by Ian Imlach, was located on St Mary Place. It was opened in 1978 to replace the former synagogue building at 15 Meadow Street that was demolished in 1973.Jews were recorded as living in Dundee in the 1840s. The community had previously met at 132 Murraygate Street and (from 1895 to 1920) at 62 Murraygate Street. The synagogue on St Mary Place was formally closed on 7 June 2019, and the base of operations for the Tayside and Fife Jewish Community moved to St Andrews.

Dundee TMD was a traction maintenance depot located in Dundee, Scotland. The depot, in Dundee's West End was situated beside Buckingham Junction, on the Glasgow–Dundee line and near the closed Dundee Esplanade railway station on the East Coast Main Line's northern extension. The depot code was DE.

The Firth of Tay (; Scottish Gaelic: Linne Tatha) is a firth on the east coast of Scotland, into which empties the River Tay (Scotland's largest river in terms of flow). The firth is surrounded by four council areas: Fife, Perth and Kinross, Dundee City, and Angus. Its maximum width (at Invergowrie) is 3 mi (4.8 km). Two bridges span the firth: the Tay Road Bridge and the Tay Rail Bridge. The marshy Mugdrum Island is the only major island in the firth.The Firth of Tay in Antarctica was discovered in 1892–93 by Captain Thomas Robertson of the Dundee whaling expedition and named by him after the one in Scotland. He also named nearby Dundee Island in honour of the main city on the firth.
