Blackness is an area of the city of Dundee. Broadly, Blackness is located to the north of the city's West End and is centred on the Blackness Road, where a number of small, local shops are located. Dundee Synagogue in Dundee, Scotland was the place of worship of the Tayside and Fife Jewish Community, which was established in 1878 under its former name of the Dundee Hebrew Congregation. The synagogue building, designed by Ian Imlach, was located on St Mary Place. It was opened in 1978 to replace the former synagogue building at 15 Meadow Street that was demolished in 1973.Jews were recorded as living in Dundee in the 1840s. The community had previously met at 132 Murraygate Street and (from 1895 to 1920) at 62 Murraygate Street. The synagogue on St Mary Place was formally closed on 7 June 2019, and the base of operations for the Tayside and Fife Jewish Community moved to St Andrews.

The Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression, located within the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, is a research facility working in the field of gene expression and chromosome biology. Previously part of the Dundee Biocentre and receiving significant Wellcome Trust funding from 1995 onwards, it was awarded Wellcome Trust Centre status in 2008. Professor Tom Owen-Hughes is the centre's director. The centre aims to enhance our understanding of how genes are regulated at both the single cell and whole organism level. Researchers use a wide range of advanced techniques, including live cell fluorescent imaging and mass spectrometry-based proteomics, to explore the functions of key proteins and molecular mechanisms in cell biology.

Verdant Works, also known as Scotland's Jute Museum, is a former jute mill in the Blackness area of Dundee, Scotland. It was purchased in 1991 by the Dundee Heritage Trust. The trust restored the buildings, which were officially opened by Prince Charles on 16 September 1996, as a museum dedicated to the textile industry, an industry that once dominated the city's economy.
