Oosterpark (Amsterdam)

De Schreeuw (The Scream) is a sculpture in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam that commemorates the assassinated Dutch film-maker Theo van Gogh. The monument was designed by Jeroen Henneman as a symbol of freedom of speech.

The Oosterparkbuurt is a neighbourhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The neighbourhood derives its name from the Oosterpark. Three of its main streets (the Eerste Oosterparkstraat, Tweede Oosterparkstraat and Derde Oosterparkstraat) were also named after the park. The neighbourhood was built late in the 19th century. Until World War II, it was home to many working-class Jews. During urban renewal operations of the 1970s and 1980s, many of the original 19th-century housing was demolished and replaced.

The Amstellyceum was a secondary school in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It got cancelled and the Metis Montesorri Lyceum is established there. The school was named after the river Amstel. It teaches, vmbo-tl, havo, and vwo (gymnasium and atheneum). In 2005, it had 480 students.

Two building complexes in Amsterdam, Netherlands, are identified by the name Dime Buildings (Dubbeltjespanden): Mauritskade no. 29 to no. 54, and some no longer extant buildings in the block Czaar Peter Straat/Blankenstraat. Both housing projects were realized in the late 19th century by the Bouwmaatschappij tot Verkrijging van Eigen Woningen BVEW (Construction Company for the Establishment of Privately Owned Homes), the first cooperative housing association in Amsterdam. The name 'Dime Buildings' has to do with the weekly dubbeltje ("dime") dues that members of the BVEW paid to the construction company. By paying the rent and the deposit of the dime, residents would become owners of their own home after twenty years. This was ultimately unsuccessful.

Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (English: "Our Lady Hospital") is a major clinical hospital situated near Oosterpark in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Founded in 1898, it is now part of OLVG, a network of hospitals formed by the merger of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis with the former Sint Lucas Andreas hospital, and is now known as OLVG, West Location.

The Dappermarkt is a market on Dapperstraat in Amsterdam-East and is one of the busiest markets of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 1910, the Dapperstraat was officially designated by the municipality of Amsterdam as a market street. The Dappermarkt draws visitors from all over the Netherlands. There are many products of interest to the city's residents of Surinamese, Antillean, Turkish, and Moroccan origin, giving the market and the surrounding neighbourhood a strong multicultural feel. National Geographic mentioned the Dappermarkt in its edition of November/December 2007. They called the Dappermarkt one of the top ten stands of shopping streets in the world.

Natura Artis Magistra (Latin for "Nature is the teacher of the arts"), commonly known just as Artis, is a zoo and botanical garden in the centre of Amsterdam. It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos of mainland Europe. In addition to the zoo, Artis also contains an aquarium (temporarily closed for maintenance), a planetarium, an arboretum, and a fairly large art and sculpture collection. A part of the art collection is on display in the Aquarium building of the zoo. Artis contains 27 historically significant (listed) buildings, bridges, and ponds most of which are still used as animal enclosures, making it a unique place of 19th-century cultural heritage. The zoo is a member of the Dutch Zoo Federation (NVD), the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), the International Species Information System (ISIS), the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the Nederlandse Vereniging van Botanische Tuinen (NVBT).

The Badhuistheater (Dutch: Bath house theatre) is a theater venue located in a former bath house on the east-side of Amsterdam.The theater is both a cultural meeting point for locals and a stage for international theatre productions. The theater is run by British actor and writer Michael Manicardi who acquired the neglected bath house around 1985 and transformed it into a theater. As a theater it seats between 50 and 150 audience, depending on the chosen configuration.
