Milecastle 52

Pike Hill Signal Tower was one of a number of signal stations that were built on high ground overlooking the line of the Roman Stanegate road in northern Britannia during the early 2nd century. It later became incorporated into Hadrian's Wall. Its remains, a 2-metre (6 ft 7 in) long fragment of the south-east wall, lie south of a modern road cutting and field wall, located in the parish of Waterhead in Cumberland, United Kingdom. The tower is located between Turret 51B and Turret 52A with the fort of Banna located to the east.

Leahill Turret is a typical example of one of the lookout towers located between the milecastles on Hadrian's Wall in Cumbria, located on the Lanercost Road near Banks, Parish of Waterhead. It is designated turret 51b and lies east of the Signal Tower at Pike Hill.

Triermain Castle was a castle in the civil parish of Waterhead, near Brampton, Cumbria, England. Triermain, Cumbria (Trewermain, Treverman c 1200): 'homestead at the stone' (Welsh tre(f) y maen) It is featured in Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous poem "Christabel" where the changeling Geraldine is apparently the daughter of Sir Roland de Vaux of Triermain.

Waterhead is a civil parish in the Cumberland district, Cumbria, England. At the 2021 census it had a population of 110. The east and south boundaries of the parish are largely formed by the River Irthing. The area of the parish is 1,838.88 hectares (7.1000 sq mi). Part of the village of Gilsland lies in the parish, while some of the village is in Northumberland. A section of Hadrian's Wall, with Birdoswald Roman fort, and the related Hadrian's Wall Path both lie within the parish, near its southern border. There is a parish council, the lowest tier of local government. The B6318 road from Langholm to Gilsland passes through the parish.

On the afternoon of 30 August 1926, a train struck a charabanc on the level crossing adjacent to Naworth railway station on the Tyne Valley Line between Newcastle upon Tyne and Carlisle. The accident killed nine people, and seriously injured three more.

Naworth Castle, also known or recorded in historical documents as "Naward", is a castle in Cumbria, England, near the town of Brampton. It is adjacent to the A69 road from Newcastle upon Tyne to Carlisle, about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Brampton. It is on the opposite side of the River Irthing to, and just within sight of, Lanercost Priory where the Dacre and Howard families are buried or have their memorials, although some are buried at Carlisle Cathedral. Naworth was the seat of the Barons Dacre and is now that of their cognatic descendants, the Earls of Carlisle, who belong to the prominent Howard family. It is a Grade I listed building and was an impregnable fortress for the Dacres, where they retreated in times of trouble.
