Nauvoo–Colusa Community Unit School District 325 is a school district headquartered in Appanoose Township, just east of Nauvoo, Illinois. It serves northwestern Hancock County, including the city of Nauvoo and the unincorporated community of Colusa. It operates Nauvoo–Colusa Elementary School and Nauvoo–Colusa Junior High School. High school-aged students attend Warsaw High School, operated by Warsaw Community Unit School District 316.

KMDY is a Christian radio station licensed to Keokuk, Iowa, broadcasting on 90.9 MHz FM. KMDY serves the areas of Keokuk, Iowa, Fort Madison, Iowa, and Carthage, Illinois. The station is owned by Sound in Spirit Broadcasting, Inc. KMDY began broadcasting in 2001, and was owned by Moody Bible Institute, running 30 watts. In 2005, KMDY was purchased by Cornerstone Community Radio. In 2006, its power was increased to 7,700 watts. Effective December 28, 2018, Cornerstone Community Radio sold KMDY and translator W209CH to Sound in Spirit Broadcasting, Inc. for $150,000.

Niota (also East Fort Madison, East Fort Madison Station) is an unincorporated community in Appanoose Township, Hancock County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. The community is located on the bank of the Mississippi River and is at the eastern end of the Fort Madison Toll Bridge, which connects Niota to Fort Madison, Iowa. Niota is the western terminus of Illinois Route 9 and is also served by Illinois Route 96, which is part of the Great River Road.

Old Niota is an unincorporated community in Hancock County, Illinois, United States.

Cambre House and Farm is a historic farmstead located southwest of Niota, Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The farmhouse was built in 1867 by Adolphe Cambre, a French immigrant and member of Nauvoo's short-lived Icarian community. A carpenter by trade, Cambre designed several of the community's buildings while the Icarians occupied Nauvoo in the 1850s. While many of the Icarians resettled in Corning, Iowa after their Nauvoo colony failed, Cambre remained in Hancock County, eventually building the Creole-inspired house for his family. The house is similar in design to the Icarians' other buildings and is the only surviving Icarian-designed building in Hancock County.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1984.

The Walter A. Sheaffer House, also known as the Craig & Margaret Abolt House, is a historic residence located in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The listing includes two structures, the main house and the garage cottage.

The Craig and Virginia Sheaffer House, also known as the John and Marion Keenan House, is a historic residence located in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Craig Sheaffer served as the president of the Sheaffer Pen Company, which had been established by his father Walter, and as an Under Secretary of Commerce during part of World War II. The house is part of a complex of houses built by the Sheaffer family. The Walter A. Sheaffer House just to the west of this house is also listed on the National Register. The other two houses were built for Craig and Virginia's sons Walter and John. John and Marion Keenan bought this house from the Sheaffer family. He also served as president of the Sheaffer Pen Company. The Craig and Virginia Sheaffer House is a large Tudor Revival completed in 1929. It was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Mayo and Mayo. The north and south elevations of the 2½-story house are 138 feet (4,206 cm) long. It is located on a landscaped property on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The landscaping, completed in 1931, is a contributing site in the house's historic nomination. The exterior is mostly composed of textured brick laid in both patterned and Flemish bond coursing. Some of the gables are faced with limestone while other wall surfaces are composed of a mix of brick and stone. One of the gables and another section of the house feature half-timbering composed of cypress wood and stucco infill.

The St. Joseph's Church Complex is a collection of historic buildings located in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. At one time the complex housed a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Davenport. St. Joseph and St. Mary of the Assumption parishes merged in the 1990s to form Saints Mary and Joseph Parish. In 2007 when that parish merged with Sacred Heart on the west side to form Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph's Church was closed. The former church, chapel, rectory, convent, and school were included as contributing properties in the Park-to-Park Residential Historic District that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Passenger and Freight Complex is a nationally recognized historic district located in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. At the time of its nomination it contained three resources, all of which are contributing buildings. The buildings were constructed over a 24-year time period, and reflect the styles that were popular when they were built. The facility currently houses a local history museum, and after renovations a portion of it was converted back to a passenger train depot for Amtrak, which opened on December 15, 2021.

Cattermole Memorial Library is a historic building located in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. In 2007 it was included as a contributing property in the Fort Madison Downtown Commercial Historic District.
