Bennington Vermont Senate District

Bennington County is a county in the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, the population was 37,347. The shire towns (county seats) are jointly Bennington ("The Southshire") and Manchester ("The Northshire"), and the largest municipality is Bennington. The county was created in 1778.

Sunderland is a town in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,056 at the 2020 census. It is home to the mail-order company Orvis.

The Chiselville Covered Bridge is a covered bridge over the Roaring Branch of the Batten Kill in Sunderland, Vermont. It bears a sign reading "One Dollar Fine for Driving Faster Than a Walk on This Bridge."

The East Arlington Village Historic District encompasses the historic core of a 19th-century village in Arlington and Sunderland, Vermont, United States. It is centered on Old Mill Road, and developed as a mill village beginning in the 18th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Glastenbury is a town in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The town was unincorporated by an act of the state legislature in 1937. The population was 9 at the 2020 census. Along with Somerset, Glastenbury is one of two Vermont towns where the population levels have dropped so low that the town has been unincorporated. The town has no local government and the town's affairs are handled by a state-appointed supervisor.

Arlington is a census-designated place (CDP) in the towns of Arlington and Sunderland, Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,213 at the 2010 census.In 1989, the Arlington Village Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The district covers an area of 180 acres (73 ha) and includes 190 contributing buildings and sites in the village center. In addition to historical and architectural significance, the district is also noted for being the place where composer Carl Ruggles spent the later years of his life. The buildings in the district provide examples of Colonial Revival, Greek Revival, and Federal styles. The St. James Episcopal Church (1829–30), the second oldest Gothic Revival church in Vermont, is located in Arlington village. In the early 20th century, the village was an important industrial center with several mills and factories, many of which were washed away by flooding in 1927. The village also has unusual sections of marble sidewalks, laid using stone from nearby quarries.

Glastenbury Mountain is a mountain located in Bennington County, Vermont, in the Green Mountain National Forest. The mountain is part of the Green Mountains. The northeast side of Glastenbury Mountain drains into Deer Lick Brook, thence into the Glastenbury River, the Deerfield River, the Connecticut River, and into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The southeast side of Glastenbury Mtn. drains into Deer Cabin Brook, and thence into the Glastenbury River. The southwest end of Glastenbury Mtn. drains into Bolles Brook, thence into the Roaring Branch of the Walloomsac River, the Hoosic River, the Hudson River, and into New York Bay in New York. The northwest side of Glastenbury drains into the Fayville Branch of Warm Brook, thence into Batten Kill and the Hudson River. The Long Trail, a 272-mile (438-km) hiking trail running the length of Vermont, passes over the summit of Glastenbury Mountain. The summit of the mountain has an observation tower maintained by GMC, who also maintains the shelter three-tenths of a mile south of the summit. The Appalachian Trail, a 2,170-mile (3,500-km) National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, coincides with this section of the Long Trail.

The Bennington-5 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Bennington-5 District includes all of the Bennington County towns of Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland, as well as: ...that part of Rupert encompassed within a boundary beginning at the intersection of the New York state line with VT 153; then northeasterly along the centerline of VT 153 to the intersection with East Street; then easterly along the centerline of East Street to the intersection with Kent Hollow Road; then southerly along the centerline of Kent Hollow Road to the Sandgate town line. (Vermont Statutes, Title 17, Chapter 34, Section 1893) [1] The rest of Rupert is in Rutland-8. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Bennington-5 District had a population of 3,718 in that same census, 8.4% below the state average.

The Hard Farm Homestead, also known as the Zera Hard House, is a historic farm complex on River Road in Manchester, Vermont. Consisting of an early 19th-century Cape, an 1840s Greek Revival house, and a number of 19th-century outbuildings, it represents a rare surviving assemblage of farm buildings in the town. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Glastenbury Wilderness is one of eight wilderness areas in the Green Mountain National Forest in the U.S. state of Vermont. The area, located northeast of Bennington, Vermont, is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. With a total of 22,330 acres (9,040 ha), the wilderness is the second largest in Vermont (next to the Breadloaf Wilderness). It was created by the New England Wilderness Act of 2006.The Long Trail (which coincides with the Appalachian Trail in this region) crosses the entire length of the wilderness from south to north. The wilderness is traversed by several other hiking trails including the Bald Mountain Trail, the West Ridge Trail, and the Little Pond Trail.The hilly terrain of the area includes several summits surpassing 2,000 feet (610 m) in elevation. The highest peak is Glastenbury Mountain at 3,748 feet (1,142 m), which is located at the north end of the wilderness, although the actual summit is just outside its boundary.
