Thiruporur

Thiruporur is a state assembly constituency in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, India. Its State Assembly Constituency number is 33. It is one of the 234 State Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

Thiruporur Kandaswamy temple (or Thiruporur Murugan temple or Kanthaswamy temple) in Thiruporur, a panchayat town in Chengalpattu district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Murugan. Constructed in the Tamil Hindu style of architecture, the temple is believed to have been expanded during the 18th century with the images excavated from Thiruporur. The temple has a five-tiered gateway tower leading to a pillared halls and the sanctum. The temple is open from 6:30 am – 12:30 pm and 3.30 - 8 pm. Four daily rituals and many yearly festivals are held at the temple, of which the Vaikasi Visagam celebrated during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May - June), Kanthasasti festival and Navarathri festival being the most prominent. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Nemmeli Desalination Plant is a water desalination plant at Nemmeli, Chennai, on the coast of the Bay of Bengal that supplies water to the city of Chennai. Initially the desalination plant experienced operational issues since the beginning and was shut down most of the time as contractor had installed the desalination plant without dissolved air floatation units leading to severe and regular choking of filters. It is located about 35 km south of the city centre, along the East Coast Road. Built at a cost of ₹ 5,333.8 million, the plant is the second desalination plant in the city after the 100-MLD (million litres per day) plant at Minjur and itself has a capacity to treat 100 million litres of seawater a day. The plant was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J.Jayalalithaa on 22 February 2010. was built to provide piped water to residents of south Chennai and the newly merged areas.

Sirudavoor Lake is an inland lake with wetlands in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu state, in eastern South India. This lake is on the Coromandel Coast, near the Bay of Bengal. The Yali Mandabam (Tiger Cave) is a rock-cut Hindu temple complex located in the hamlet of Saluvankuppam near Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, India. It gets its name from the carvings of tiger heads on the mouth of a cave which forms a part of the complex. The Yali Mandabam (Tiger Cave) is considered to be one of the Mahabalipuram rock-cut temples constructed by the Pallavas in the 8th century AD. The site is located on the Bay of Bengal coast and is a popular picnic spot and tourist destination. The temple is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The discovery of an inscription on a rocky outcrop in the Yali Mandabam (Tiger Cave) complex in 2005 led to the excavation of a Sangam period Muruga Temple close by.

Saluvankuppam, also spelt as Salavankuppam or Saluvanakuppam, is a coastal hamlet in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated on the East Coast Road at a distance of 7 kilometres from Mahabalipuram on the Chennai-Mahabalipuram stretch. The Tiger Cave, which forms a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram is located here. The recently unearthed Murugan Temple close to Tiger Cave is also located here. The hamlet along with its surroundings house a number of resorts and is a popular tourist destination.
