Sutherland Shire is a local government area in the southern region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The Sutherland Shire is located just south of the Sydney CBD, and comprises an area of 370 square kilometres (140 sq mi) and as at the 2016 census and has an estimated population of 218,464. Sutherland Shire is colloquially known as "The Shire" and has featured in several reality television series. Geographically, it is the area to the south of Botany Bay and the Georges River. Carmelo Pesce, a Liberal.The Sutherland Shire contains what was the first landing site of Lieutenant James Cook, who went ashore onto what is now the suburb of Kurnell on 29 April 1770. It was originally intended to be the site of the first British Settlement, before Sydney Cove was chosen as the location during the First Fleet.

Royal National Park railway station is located in Audley, New South Wales and services travellers to the Royal National Park. It is the terminus of the Royal National Park railway line, formerly part of the Sydney commuter rail network and now operated by the Sydney Tramway Museum. The station opened in 1886 and was served by trains on the Sydney network until 1991 when the Royal National Park railway line was closed due to low patronage. The line and station were transferred to the Sydney Tramway Museum and re-opened in May 1993 for heritage tramway operations. The museum operates services on the line on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the first service running at 10:15 am. Departures are hourly from then on, with the last one at 2:30 pm on Wednesday and 4:30 pm on Sunday. It is a popular means of access to the Royal National Park.

St Patrick's College is an independent Roman Catholic co-educational secondary day school, located in Sutherland, Southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The college provides a general and religious education for students from Year 7 to Year 12. The school traces its founding to Christian Brothers College, established as an upper primary school in 1956 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. In 1992, it merged with Mary Immaculate College, which had been founded in 1959 by the Presentation Sisters of Wagga Wagga. The school takes its name from St. Patrick's School, a primary parochial school, which had been founded in 1924 by the Sisters of Mercy of Cronulla, and of which Mary Immaculate College had been established as a secondary department.St Patrick's College is connected to St Patrick's Catholic Parish Sutherland and St Patrick's Primary School.

Horizon Church, founded as Sutherland AOG, and formerly more recently Shirelive, is a Pentecostal Christian church affiliated with Australian Christian Churches, the Australian branch of the Assemblies of God denomination. The church's main campus is in the commercial district of Sutherland, a southern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. The church's senior pastors are Brad and Alison Bonhomme, and the former Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, is a member of the congregation. Apart from the original church in Sutherland, Horizon also has satellite churches in St Andrews, a south-western suburb of Sydney; Dunsborough, Western Australia; and Rote Island in Indonesia, and as of March 2022 is planning another campus in Western Sydney.

Yarrawarrah is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 32 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. The traditional inhabitants of Yarrawarrah are the Tharawal people, with Yarrawarrah being an Aboriginal word meaning mountain ash. Yarrawarrah is also the name of a ridge which was located in the vicinity between Heathcote and Waterfall.

Kirrawee High School is a comprehensive co-educational high school located in Kirrawee, New South Wales, Australia. The school was opened in 1966 and now caters for around 1,200 students, most continuing their education from three local primary schools, Gymea Bay, Grays Point and Kirrawee. The school is a Languages High School which also offers a comprehensive education in sports and in the performing arts, with musician James Morrison, who plays a concert at the school every year, a close mentor for the school's Jazz Orchestra. In the Sutherland Cronulla Education District, Kirrawee High school was second only to the academic selective high school Caringbah High School. Extra-curricular activities offered include debating and public speaking, musical and dramatic productions, the Student Council, community service, charitable collections and fund raising and many sports programs. Brett McKay, the head science teacher, has been awarded the Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching.
