Reno ( REE-noh) is a city in the northwest section of the U.S. state of Nevada, along the Nevada-California border, about 22 miles (35 km) north from Lake Tahoe, known as "The Biggest Little City in the World". Known for its casino and tourism industry, Reno is the county seat and largest city of Washoe County and sits in the High Eastern Sierra foothills, in the Truckee River valley, on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. The Reno metro area (along with the neighboring city Sparks) occupies a valley colloquially known as the Truckee Meadows which because of large-scale investments from Greater Seattle and San Francisco Bay Area companies such as Amazon, Tesla, Panasonic, Microsoft, Apple, and Google has become a new major technology center in the United States.The city is named after Civil War Union Major General Jesse L. Reno, who was killed in action during the American Civil War at the Battle of South Mountain, on Fox's Gap. Reno is part of the Reno–Sparks metropolitan area, the second-most populous metropolitan area in Nevada after the Las Vegas Valley. Known as Greater Reno, it includes Washoe, Storey, Lyon Counties, the independent city and state capital, Carson City, as well as parts of Placer and Nevada Counties in California. The city proper had a population of 264,165 at the 2020 census.

The Diocese of Reno is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in the northern Nevada region of the United States, centered on the city of Reno. The diocese is composed of 12 counties in Nevada. The See of Reno is a suffragan diocese of the ecclesiastical province of San Francisco. Other suffragan sees in the province include the Dioceses of Honolulu, Las Vegas, Oakland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Jose, Santa Rosa and Stockton.

Bethel AME Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church at 220 Bell Street in Reno, Nevada. It has served as a hub for Reno's African American community since it was built in 1910 for early black settlers. In addition to its role as a religious and community center, it functioned as a resource center for black divorce seekers who faced difficulties in a segregated city during the middle decades of the twentieth century. In the 1960s, during the American civil rights movement, the church provided a meeting place for the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and other civil rights activists.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.In 1993, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Carey G. Anderson, the congregation moved to 2655 N Rock Boulevard in Sparks, Nevada. The church continues to thrive in the community and has provided countless programs through the years.

The Nystrom Guest House, at 333 Ralston St. in Reno, Nevada, was built in 1875 as a "grand home" for Washoe County Clerk John Shoemaker. It includes Gothic Revival architecture. Also known as the Shoemaker Home, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.The house was reoriented 90 degrees—moved—to allow a subdivision of its original parcel c.1900. The Nystrom family purchased the house in 1944.

The Borland–Clifford House, also known as the Clifford House, is a historic Carpenter Gothic house located at 339 Ralston Street in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada. The house is one of the few extant houses in Reno which were built in the 19th century.

The Francovich House, at 557 Washington St. in Reno, Nevada, USA, was built during 1899–1900. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and was delisted later the same year, when it was moved to save it from demolition.

The Humphrey House in Reno, Nevada, located at 467 Ralston St., is a historic house built in 1906. Designed by Reno architect Fred Schadler, it is significant architecturally and for association with Nevada governors Tasker Oddie and Emmet Boyle, who were guests there. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.Its NRHP nomination identifies it as "a superlative residential example of the Mission Revival style and one that is unique to Reno." It was built for the Frank E. Humphrey family and owned by the family into the 1960s.

Sands Regency is a hotel and casino located in Downtown Reno, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Jacobs Entertainment.

The Twaddle Mansion was built for rancher Ebenezer "Eben" Twaddle in Reno, Nevada. The two-story frame house was built in 1905 by contractor Benjamin Leon in the Colonial Revival style, an unusual choice for Nevada, and executed with particular opulence. The house features a richly ornamented first floor. The entry porch features clusters of Ionic columns supporting a frieze and pediment. The curving porch extends around the house to the west, echoing the house's corner lot placement. The east side features an extensively decorated hooded window. The porch columns are linked by turned balusters. Corners are marked with two-story Ionic pilasters. The second floor is more restrained in its detailing, almost to the point of relative austerity compared with the first. The house's windows are fitted with beveled glass. Eaves are supported by brackets interspersed with decorative relief over the second floor windows. The hipped roof is outfitted with small dormers with diamond-pane windows.Eben Twaddle was a Reno-area rancher and was a six-term Reno city councilman, hospital administrator, school board representative and fire marshal. After the passage of liberalized divorce laws in Reno, it became a temporary residence for applicants observing the mandatory local residence time for divorce. In 1927 the local six-month waiting period for a divorce was reduced to three months, and in 1931 it was further reduced to six weeks, greatly increasing the divorce trade in Reno.The house later became a religious center for the Baháʼí Faith, and then was converted to commercial use. The Twaddle Mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Laurence Peter Digesti, a local Reno attorney, purchased the mansion in the 1990s and renovated the inside so that it now is The Digesti Law Firm LLP.

The former First Church of Christ, Scientist, built in 1939, is an historic Classical revival style Christian Science church edifice located at 501 Riverside Drive, overlooking the Truckee River in Reno, Nevada. Anna Frandsen Loomis, a wealthy local Christian Scientist, underwrote the $120,000 cost of the building, including land acquisition and architect's fees. She was responsible for hiring noted Los Angeles architect Paul Revere Williams, the first African-American member of the AIA. In 1998 the congregation sold the building and used the funds from the sale to construct a new church at 795 West Peckham Lane. Church member and local theater patron Moya Lear donated $1.1 million to the Reno-Sparks Theater Community Coalition, which used the funding to purchase the First Church of Christ, Scientist and renamed it the Lear Theater.On December 28, 1982, the building was added to the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. and on August 20, 1999, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Reno, Nevada, United States. It is located at 310 W. 2nd Street in Reno. It was built in 1908 as the rise in Reno's Catholic population warranted a larger church. The cathedral was nearly destroyed by a fire in 1909 and was restored the following year. The cathedral complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
