He had part-owned the predecessor Vreugd en Rust until he was bought out when the company collapsed. In 1995 he bought the mansion where Vreugd en Rust was located and closed the restaurant. After a two-year renovation he reopened the mansion as hotel-restaurant Savelberg.

Together with some admirers he had set up a company that first exploited restaurant Seinpost and later Vreugd en Rust. In 1993 the company collapsed and Savelberg was bought out. The new head chef was Gert Jan Hageman.New owner Henk Savelberg closed the restaurant in 1995 and renovated the mansion. In 1997 he reopened it as restaurant-hotel Savelberg.The building is located beside the park Vreugd en Rust in Leidschendam-Voorburg.

ADO Den Haag Vrouwen is a Dutch football (soccer) club based in The Hague representing ADO Den Haag in the Vrouwen Eredivisie, the top women's football league in the Netherlands. Founded in 2007, the club is a founding member of the championship. In 2012 the team won its first national championship. Later they achieved the double, when they also won the KNVB Women's Cup.

The stadium was the venue for the 2014 Hockey World Cup. For the last five months of 2019 it also served as the home of AZ Alkmaar, whose AFAS Stadion was undergoing major renovation after a roof collapse.On 18 February 2022 the roof of the stadium was damaged by Storm Eunice.

In 2002, the cities of Leidschendam and Voorburg were merged under the new municipality named "Leidschendam-Voorburg". Situated adjacent to the city of The Hague, it is often regarded as one of its suburbs.
