Social Circle Historic District

Social Circle is a city in southern Walton County, extending into Newton County, in the U.S. state of Georgia, 45 miles east of Atlanta.

Social Circle High School is a public school facility serving grades 9-12. It operates under the Social Circle City School District, within the city of Social Circle, in the extreme southern portion of Walton County, Georgia, United States. Its current principal is Tim Armstrong.

Brick Store is a historic building in Covington, Georgia. It was built in 1821 and served as a focus point for the community, also known as Sun Up, Georgia, Mt. Pleasent, Georgia or Brick Store, Georgia. It has been a general store, stage coach stop, post office, school house, courtroom, jail and residence for Martin Kolb. The first session of Newton County Superior Court was held at the Brick Store. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 9, 2009. The building is owned by the Trustees of the Newton County Historical Society[2]. It is located on U.S. Route 278 at Old Social Circle Road. The site includes a tablet from 1933 commemorating the Stage Coach Crossroads, a plaque commemorating the building's donation by Charles M. Jordan of the building to the Newton County Historical Society in 1971 and a plaque from the landmarks commission dated 1990.

Alcovy is an unincorporated community in Newton County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.

Alcovy Mountain is a monadnock in the U.S. state of Georgia similar to Kennesaw Mountain in the city of Marietta. It is located in Walton County four miles south of the city of Monroe. With a summit elevation of 1,128 ft (344 m), the mountain is the highest point in Walton County, and is the southeastern-most mountain of significance in the Appalachians. The terrain around the mountain averages roughly 750 feet (230 m) AMSL. Alcovy (pronunciation: al-CO-vee) Mountain rises steeply from the banks of the Alcovy River, which arises farther north, in Gwinnett County.

Hard Labor Creek Regional Reservoir is a 1,370-acre (550 ha) artificial reservoir in a region on the south-east side of unincorporated Walton County, Georgia, United States, near both Social Circle and Rutledge, about 40 miles (64 km) east of Atlanta. It features a Category I earthen dam constructed primarily for municipal water supply, with a secondary consideration of recreation, on Hard Labor Creek. The dam is approximately 1,950 feet (590 m) long, 460 feet (140 m) wide, and 94 feet (29 m) high, with a spillway crest elevation of 700 feet (210 m) above mean sea level (MSL).First proposed in 1997, built in response to the growing controversy over the Tri-state water dispute, the State of Georgia with its 52 watershed regions drains primarily into either the Gulf of Mexico, or the Atlantic, with the reservoir existing in the Upper Oconee River watershed, which ultimately drains into the latter.

Dixie is an unincorporated community in Newton County, Georgia, United States, on Georgia State Route 142 5.4 miles (8.7 km) east-southeast of Covington. The community was named after Dixie, a nickname for the southeastern United States.

Eastside High School is a public secondary school in Covington, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Newton County School System. It was opened in 1994 as a transitional school and became an official high school in 1998 when it had its first graduating class.

Jersey is a town in Walton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 146 at the 2020 census.

The Burge Plantation, also known as the Burge Farm, is a historic farm estate in Newborn, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 11, 2000. It is generally bounded by GA 142, Cook Road, Morehouse Road and Sewell Road. Wiley Burge purchased the property in 1809 and farmed it with enslaved Africans. His son Thomas took over and his wife, Dolly Sumner (Lunt) Burge (a native of Maine and from an abolitionist family) kept a journal from 1848 through 1879. Four sisters who were enslaved married and raised their children, also slaves, at Burge. Those who were enslaved at Burge were members of three intact families (one sister died and her husband married the fourth sister). The journal, including information about these families, has been published and included in the series Southern Voices from the Past: Women’s Letters, Diaries, and Writings. It has also been depicted in Sherman's March (2007 film) for its depictions of the arrival of General Tecumseh Sherman's army on the property during the American Civil War. The site is now a private club and part of the Covington Historic Homes Tour.

Rutledge is a city in Morgan County, Georgia, United States. Founded in 1871, the city had a population of 871 at the 2020 census, up from 781 in 2010.
