Monroe City Hall (Monroe, Georgia)

The Monroe Museum is a history museum in Monroe, Georgia. The museum was created by a volunteer committee of Monroe residents and generous support from the community in 2015. It details a timeline of Monroe, starting with the Native Americans that lived in the area, and ending with the present.

Monroe is a city and the county seat of Walton County, Georgia, United States. It is located both one hour east of Atlanta via US 78 and GA 138 to I-20 and east of Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport and is one of the exurban cities in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 14,928 at the 2020 U.S. census.

The Walton County Courthouse in Monroe, Georgia was built in 1883. It was designed by architects Bruce & Morgan in Second Empire style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was built at cost of $23,865 during 1883–84. It is also a contributing building in the NRHP-listed Monroe Commercial Historic District.

The Monroe Commercial Historic District is a 14 acres (5.7 ha) historic district in Monroe, Georgia which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 33 contributing buildings. Location: Spring and Broad Sts. It includes work by architects Bruce & Morgan. Architecture: Classical Revival, Late Victorian It includes the Walton Hotel. It includes the courthouse square of the Walton County Courthouse and surrounding commercial buildings.

The McDaniel Street Historic District in Monroe, Georgia is a 32 acres (13 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 13 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site. It includes the McDaniel-Tichenor House, which is separately listed on the National Register.

The McDaniel-Tichenor House, located in Monroe, Georgia, United States was built in 1887 for retiring Governor Henry McDaniel. Originally designed by Athens, Georgia architect William Winstead Thomas (1848-1904) in the then-popular Victorian Italianate Villa style, the house was extensively remodeled in the 1930s by Nashville architect, and son-in-law of Edgar and Gipsy Tichenor, Francis Boddie Warfield. Remade in the Neoclassical style popular with prominent southerners at the time, the Tichenors also added modern indoor plumbing, electricity and heating systems. Though the interior was reconfigured as well, much of the original woodwork, doors and inlaid marbleized mantels are original. The eclectically furnished interior features pieces dating from the late 18th century up until the mid-20th. Many original pieces, such as the Governor's carved mahogany bed, were rescued from storage in the servants house and restored by Emily Tichenor. The McDaniel-Tichenor House remained occupied by the same family until just under a decade ago. The 1930 renovation, which changed the house from its original 1887 Italianate style to Neo-Classical style, was designed by Francis Boddie Warfield (1891-1975), who was a well-known Nashville architect and was the grandson-in-law of Governor McDaniel and was son-in-law of the incoming Tichenors. The McDaniel-Tichenor House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The home presently serves as a special events and educational facility.

The South Broad Street Historic District in Monroe, Georgia is a 15 acres (6.1 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 14 contributing buildings. The largest properties are the Walker-FieIds House and the Wright-Henson House; the oldest is the John Felker House, which has elements of both Plantation Plain and American Gothic architecture.

The North Broad Street Historic District in Monroe, Georgia is a 55 acres (22 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 56 contributing buildings. It includes the Davis Edwards House, which is separately listed on the National Register.

The Monroe and Walton Mills Historic District in Monroe, Georgia is a 120 acres (49 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 236 contributing buildings. It is an industrial district, including four types of uses: mill buildings, mill houses, support buildings, and an area of large houses. The Monroe Cotton Mill building is a two-story building, begun in 1895, with brick walls 16 inches (0.41 m) thick. It would eventually have 5,000 spindles. The Walton Cotton Mill building was built during 1900–01.

The Tom Chick House, in Monroe, Georgia, was built in 1907. Also known as the Chick-Gower-Braswell House, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is a two-story frame house with brick chimneys. It has a one-story porch wrapping around its west west side. It was deemed notable as "a good example of early twentieth century architecture built for a middle class family that was moving into the city. Although the location is considered "in the country", it was close enough to Monroe for the children to take advantage of the city schools. The house was built by local contractors, probably using basic patterns and plans. In its massing, details, and style, it is typical of the architecture of the early 1900s. It is also significant as one of only a few examples in Monroe of a "farmhouse" in the city. Most of the city's development came out from the center of town, and few examples remain of late nineteenth century and early twentieth century farm development. 1102 East Church Street is one such house still in the city, and it is important as a rare example of this house type."

The South Madison Avenue-Pannell Road Historic District in Monroe, Georgia, United States, is a 12 acres (4.9 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included eight contributing buildings. The area developed as a small country hamlet, outside Monroe. Most of the buildings were built before 1910.

Monroe–Walton County Airport (FAA LID: D73) is a city-owned, public-use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) southeast of the central business district of Monroe, a city in Walton County, Georgia, United States. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.
