The 5th Air Force Division (German: 5. Luftwaffendivision, 5. LWD), was a division of the Bundeswehr's German Air Force. It was located from 1963 to 1971 in Birkenfeld and from 1990 to 1994 in Strausberg (Eggersdorf). It was the successor of the Kommando LSK/LV.

The Kommando Luftstreitkräfte/Luftverteidigung (Kdo LSK/LV) was the Air Force Staff - and simultaneously the Air Force Command of the National People's Army (NPA), the Air Force of the former German Democratic Republic. The main task of the Kdo LSK/LV was to provide Command, Control and Communications (C3) to the military branch as the whole, as well as to the subordinated division-sized specified commands, groups, organizations, and units of the NVA's Air Force. Under deployment conditions, and in line with the situation awareness C3 had to be executed from the Main Air Force Operations Center, the so-called Zentraler Gefechtsstand 14 (ZGS-14) in Fürstenwalde, the Rear Operations Center (Rückwärtige Führungsstaffel - RFS) in Beeskow (Ranzig), or the Interim Operations Center (Hilfsführungsstelle - HFS) in Strausberg (Eggersdorf). The Kdo LSK/LV was established in 1950, and was disbanded together with the NVA in 1990. Its legal successor was the 5. Luftwaffendivision of the Bundeswehr.

The headquarters also is the staff of the Inspector of the Army, the most senior Army officer. It was formed in 2012, as a merger of the Army Office (Heeresamt), Army Staff (Führungsstab des Heeres), and Army Forces Command (Heeresführungskommando), as part of a larger reorganization of the Bundeswehr. It is based at the von-Hardenberg-Kaserne in Strausberg, Brandenburg.The command supports the army inspector in performing his planning, command, control and control tasks. It ensures the operational readiness of the army in material and personnel terms and directs the subordinate units and departments: Army Development Office (Amt für Heeresentwicklung), (Cologne) Training Command (Ausbildungskommando), (HQ Leipzig) 1st Panzer Division (Bundeswehr) (HQ Oldenburg) 10th Panzer Division (Bundeswehr) (HQ Veitshöchheim) Rapid Forces Division (HQ Stadtallendorf)
