The Mount School, York

English Martyrs Church is a Grade II listed Roman Catholic church located in York, England. The Church is dedicated to the memory of the English Martyrs, a group of Catholic men and women who were executed for their faith during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

The Mount is a street in York, in England, running south-west from the city centre.

Holgate Bridge is a iron girder bridge in Holgate, York, England, which straddles the railway lines heading south out of the station. The bridge is set at a skew in comparison to the railway lines underneath, and carries the A59 road into, and out of, York city centre. The current bridge opened on 1 August 1911, and is the third bridge built at that location. During works carried out in the late 1980s when the East Coast Main Line was electrified, the bridge was raised by 12 inches (300 mm) to enable overhead line equipment to be installed underneath.

York Racecourse railway station, also known as York Holgate Excursion Platform and Holgate Bridge railway station, served the York Racecourse in Holgate, York, England, from 1860 to 1939 on the York and North Midland Railway.

St Paul's Church is the parish church of Holgate, a suburb of York in England. The area fell within the parish of St Mary Bishophill Junior. Much housing was constructed in the district in the 1840s, and it was decided to build a new church. A site was found on the north side of Holgate Road. A building was designed by J. B. and W. Atkinson, in the Gothic Revival style. It was constructed from 1850 to 1851, designed to seat 700 worshippers. It was consecrated on 3 January 1856, and was given its own parish later in the month. Part of the nave was given to extend the chancel in 1890, and a new east window was added in 1906, to a design by George Fowler Jones. The church was Grade II listed in 1997. The church is built of brick faced with sandstone, and it has a slate roof. The piers are made of cast iron. It consists of a continuous nave and chancel, with north and south aisles, the nave extending one bay further west than the aisles. The west wall has buttresses and two tall pinnacles; similar pinnacles at the east end have been taken down. There is a bellcote at the gable end. There is a central doorway, flanked by narrow pointed arches, with a large rose window above. The east end has a three-light Geometrical window, while the other windows are lancets. On the north side is a vestry, and there is a basement under the north aisle. Inside the church is a king post roof, which also has collar trusses and arched braces. There is a gallery at the west end, which has been converted into an office and meeting room.

All Saints Catholic School is a split site, coeducational Catholic secondary school and sixth form. It is regarded as the best Catholic school in the North.The school has a split site. The Upper Site is between South Bank and Scarcroft Road in the south side of York, England and is where years 10–13 are taught. The Lower Site is on Nunnery Lane close to Micklegate Bar and is where years 7–9 are taught. In 2022, it was announced that All Saints is the best school in York, fifth best School in the North.The school has been serving the Catholic population of York and more broadly Yorkshire (in some form) since 1665, and plays a role in the Catholic education of the region as the only Catholic Secondary school and Sixth Form in York.

York Rail Operating Centre (also known as York ROC) is a Rail operating centre (ROC) located at the south western end of York railway station in York, England. The site is one of twelve that will control all signalling across the mainland of the United Kingdom. It was opened in stages from 2014 onwards, with responsibility for signalling becoming active in January 2015. The York ROC accepted the role of its predecessor, the adjacent York Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC), in December 2018. Of the twelve ROC signalling centres that have been built across the regions for Network Rail, York is the largest and controls the London North Eastern (LNE) region which includes the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and the Scottish Borders.

The Bay Horse is a pub on Blossom Street, immediately west of the city centre of York, in England. The core of the building was constructed in the late-17th century, after the Siege of York, as a small farmhouse. It was first recorded as an inn in 1748, around which time it was raised to three storeys, and extended from an L-plan to a square plan. It is now a three bay building, built of brick, with a rendered front which has a parapet disguising the tiled roof. The staircase dates from the mid-18th century, and there are some fittings from the Regency period.By 1798, the inn was named the "Bay Horse". This name is believed to refer to the horse Bay Malton, who won a major race nearby, at York Racecourse. Some of the windows were altered in the 19th-century. From 1862 until 1874, the pub and its brewhouse were owned by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. By 1969, the pub was owned by John Smith's Brewery, which restored the ground floor, reusing some of the Victorian fittings.

The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is the United Kingdom's professional body and learned society for physicists, engineers and technologists within the field of medicine, founded in 1995, changing its name from the Institution of Physics and Engineering in Medicine and Biology (IPEMB) in 1997. The Institute is governed by an elected Board of Trustees reporting to which are the Science, Research and Innovation Council and the Professional and Standards Council. The councils have operational responsibility for scientific and professional aspects of the Institute's work, respectively. Beneath the councils is a substructure of committees, groups and panels of members, which undertake the work of the Institute. The Institute is licensed by the Engineering Council to register Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technologists and by the Science Council to register Chartered Scientists, Registered Scientists and Registered Science Technicians.The aim of the Institute and its members, set out in its charitable objects and articles of association, is to promote for the public benefit the advancement of physics and engineering applied to medicine and biology, and to advance public education in the field.

The Odeon Cinema is a Grade II listed building immediately west of the city centre of York, in England. The Odeon Cinemas chain was keen to build a cinema in York, but it could not gain permission to construct a large building within the York city walls. Initial plans were toned down, and the resulting building is almost entirely of brown brick, with none of the tiles which often feature in Harry Weedon's work. Following these changes, permission was granted to build on Blossom Street, just outside the walls.The building opened as an Odeon Cinema on 1 February 1937. It was designed by Harry Weedon, with the assistance of Robert Bullivant, and with interiors attributed to Lily Deutsch. The construction cost £40,500. On opening, it had 1,484 seats: 934 in the stalls and 550 on the balcony. In 1972, it was converted to have three screens, with the balcony extended forward to form one 800-seat space and the rear of the former stalls split into two smaller screens, each with 111 seats. It was listed in 1981. The building is in the Art Deco style, and has a low front range, with a three-storey range behind, a tower to the left, and two-storey wings on either side. Part of the front range is occupied by shops. The tower retains an illuminated "Odeon" sign, rendered in Roman capital letters, not the chain's usual style.Odeon planned to close the cinema in 2003, with a 13,000-name petition leading to a short reprieve. It closed in 2006, but reopened in 2009 as part of the Reel Cinemas chain. In 2017, it was purchased by Everyman Cinemas and renovated to accommodate four screens, each with sofa seating.The official listing notes that "the architecture ... is well designed and executed, and is a good example of Odeon cinema design" and that original windows survive, along with some original design elements and ancillary rooms. John Brooke Fieldhouse describes it as having "... the overall texture of a building belonging to an ancient civilisation".

York Integrated Electronic Control Centre was a major signalling control centre on the East Coast Main Line railway between London and Edinburgh. The centre also contained the electrical control centre for the line and the LNE regional control office of Network Rail. Its responsibility for signalling across Yorkshire was transferred to York Rail Operating Centre in December 2018.
