Dewsbury and District Hospital

HWD Hospital Radio is a hospital radio station which broadcasts to the patients and staff of Mid Yorkshire Trust hospitals in West Yorkshire, England. The station is a member of the Hospital Broadcasting Association and is registered as a charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, number 227515.

Foxsons Mill, Staincliffe was a doubling mill in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. It was Lancashire Cotton Corporation sole mill in West Yorkshire. A doubling mill, it doubled yarns of counts 4's to 40's. built in It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. The mill was demolished in 1973, and the land is now housing.

Staincliffe is a cross-over district of both Batley and Dewsbury, in West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the name is believed to derive from staine, meaning stone and cliffe, cliff.The area is centred on top of a hill between Dewsbury, Batley and Heckmondwike, north and east of Halifax Road (A638 road) are in Batley (WF17). The section south of Halifax Road, including Dewsbury & District Hospital has a Dewsbury (WF13) postal addresses. Until the 19th century, the hamlet of Staincliffe consisted of Staincliffe Hall (dating from at least the 17th century) a few farms and some 18th-century cottages, many of which survive amongst the later developments. Staincliffe expanded in the 19th century with the growth of the heavy woollen industry. In 1867, a new parish church of Christ Church Staincliffe was consecrated which, along with the vicarage and church school, was designed by William Henry Crossland. Today Staincliffe has many 19th-century houses, but also contains a couple of council housing estates built during the 1950s, as well as a mix of small shops along Halifax Road.

Dewsbury Moor is a district of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies to the west of the Dewsbury town centre. The population is around 5,650. Crime rates are higher than the national average.Dewsbury Moor Amateur Rugby league Football Club is based on Heckmondwike Road and has three playing fields nearby. The rugby club has turned out several notable rugby league professionals including Ryan Sheridan, Matt Diskin, Dean Lawford, Sam Burgess, Luke Burgess, George Burgess and Tom Burgess. There are two schools, Knowles Hill Infant and Nursery School on Knowles Hill Road, and Westmoor Junior School on Church Lane.The area was at the centre of national media and public attention in early 2008, when nine-year-old Shannon Matthews disappeared from near her home, in Dewsbury Moor, on the afternoon of 19 February 2008. After a 24-day search, she was found alive on 14 March 2008 at a flat in Batley Carr. Michael Donavan, the man whose flat she was found in, was (along with Shannon's mother Karen) later jailed for eight years for abduction and false imprisonment.

Westborough High School is a mixed secondary school located in Westborough, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated on Oxford Road, and shares its grounds with St John Fisher Catholic High School. The school was founded in the 1960s and has had close links with the other nearby secondary schools. The current (2013) headteacher of Westborough is Jennifer Napper The school admits pupils from the ages of 11–16. Its catchment areas are Ravensthorpe, Savile Town and the local areas of Boothroyd. Over the past 5 years the school's music department, in the new performing arts block at Westborough, has developed a public profile with concerts performed by pupils in the summer and winter. Bands originating at Westborough are the Samba Band and Drumline, which have performed in Batley Park, York and on Sky TV during a rugby match.Westborough High School achieved the third successive year of record rises in GCSE results, with 54% of pupils gaining 5 or more GCSE passes at A* to C, and 34% of these being in English and Maths, a 6% rise on last year, exceeding a 30% target set by the Government.In 2011 Birkdale High School was formally closed, with Westborough High School taking over its site. Some pupils from Birkdale transferred to the Westborough campus immdemiately. However the former Birkdale High School campus was still used to educate a number of pupils under Westborough High School management, and renamed as the Halifax Road Campus. The Halifax Road Campus closed down when the final set of year 11 students finished their GCSEs in 2014.

St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy (formerly St John Fisher Catholic High School) is a Roman Catholic Mixed Comprehensive in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. St John Fisher was opened in 1958 under the trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds to serve Catholics living in Dewsbury, Batley and the surrounding areas. It was reorganised in 1974 and the Sixth Form was added in 1979. The school, an 11–19 mixed Roman Catholic secondary school, has about 1200 pupils on roll, including 200 in the sixth form. It has also been a specialist Sports College since 2005. As of 2019 the school's headteacher is Richard Williams until August 2020 when Sarah Wilkinson will become head but now as of 2022 Jackie Rose is the temporary Head Teacher .

Healey is a district of Batley, which is part of the Kirklees district, West Yorkshire, England. Healey is located between Batley and Heckmondwike. The 2001 census counted a population of 3,011. Healey contains several council housing estates, one of which was referred to as "Tin Town" and is currently undergoing development with a mix of social housing. Jessop's Park is a local green space in Healey.

Crow Nest Park is a Green Flag awarded public park located in the Dewsbury Moor area of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. Opened to the public in 1893, the park originated on the grounds on a country house estate dating from the 16th century. It was created to bring a feel of the countryside into what was a heavily industrial area. The park is situated on a hillside and offers views across the surrounding towns and countryside. Attractions include an adventure playground, an ornamental lake, formal lawns, a walled wildflower garden, sports facilities, a greenhouse and a café.

Boothroyd is a village located west of Dewsbury in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Boothroyd has a primary school. Grade II listed buildings in Boothroyd include the church of St John, the war memorial in Crow Nest Park, and the gate piers and gates to Crow Nest Park.

Batley Carr, West Yorkshire, England is a district partly in Dewsbury and partly in Batley, on the way to Dewsbury, along the A652, Bradford Road. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the population is about 3,740. Crime is around the national average.Batley Carr housed the workers from the mills of Dewsbury, Batley and Batley Carr. As the settlement expanded, with the growth of textiles, there was a necessity for its own railway station (Staincliffe and Batley Carr railway station). The red brick station master's house still stands but is now a private residence. However, Batley Carr has since dwindled in size and now only has a post office, a few shops (mainly takeaways) and some remaining factories including the British Beds haulage depot. It is near the nightclub 'The Frontier'. Public houses and working men's clubs are still popular. Shannon Matthews, who disappeared from Dewsbury Moor on 19 February 2008, was found alive on 14 March 2008 in Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr.

Mount Pleasant is a cricket ground in Batley, West Yorkshire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1869, when Batley played Burnley. The ground hosted a single first-class match in 1883 when the T. Emmett's XI played R. G. Barlow's XI.The ground, adjacent to the stadium of Batley RLFC, is the home of Batley Cricket Club. They are members of the Central Yorkshire Cricket League.
