Traxler is a ghost town located in Alachua County, Florida, just north of the city of Alachua.

Worthington Springs is a spring and town in Union County, Florida, United States. The population was 181 at the 2010 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2018 estimates, the town had a population of 380.

New River is a 31-mile-long (50 km) tributary of the Santa Fe River in northern Florida, United States. The river was used as the border to create Union County from Bradford County (formerly New River County, Florida) in 1921. The Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail, a multi-use recreational trail that includes a portion of the Florida National Scenic Trail, will, when completed, cross the New River southeast of the town of Lake Butler. The Florida Trail currently crosses the New River along State Road 100. An application from HSP Enterprises to mine phosphate from a 7,400-acre (3,000 ha) tract spanning the New River has met opposition from local residents. As of January 2018, Bradford County was reviewing the application, while Union County had placed a moratorium on mining applications until February 2019.

Newnansville, Florida was one of the first American settlements in the interior of Florida. It became the second county seat of Alachua County in 1828, and one of the central locations for activity during the Second Seminole War, during which time it was one of the largest cities in the State. In the 1850s, the Florida Railroad bypassed Newnansville, resulting in the county seat being moved to the new town of Gainesville in 1854. Consequently, Newnansville began to decline, and when a second railway bypassed the town in 1884, most of its residents relocated and formed the new City of Alachua. By 1900, Newnansville was deserted. The site is approximately 1.5 miles northeast of Alachua, on S.R. 235 off of US 441. Containing partial walls of two cemeteries, the town site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 1974.

LaCrosse is a town in Alachua County, Florida, 15 miles (24 km) north of Gainesville. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 360, up from 143 in 2000. The area around LaCrosse is devoted to agriculture, especially potatoes; the area is known as the "Potato District." Other products of the area include tobacco, vegetables, and cattle.

The City of Alachua Downtown Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on July 14, 2000) located in Alachua, Florida. It encompasses approximately 490 acres (2.0 km2), bounded by Northwest 150th Avenue, Northwest 145th Terrace, Northwest 143rd Place and Northwest 138th Terrace. It contains 102 historic buildings.

The Reception and Medical Center (RMC) is a state prison and hospital for men located in Lake Butler, Union County, Florida. The facility was founded in 1968 as an intake and processing point for all male state prisoners and a secure medical facility.As of 2016, the facility can house a maximum of 1,503 prisoners with a range of security levels. The nearby Reception and Medical Center, West Unit houses another 1,148 and Reception and Medical Center, Work Camp houses 432.In April 2015, two correctional officers and a third former officer were charged in a scheme to murder a former inmate, in retaliation for a fight in the RMC the previous year. All three officers were linked to the Traditional American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
