The Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest in northern Georgia comprises two United States National Forests, the Oconee National Forest in eastern Georgia and the Chattahoochee National Forest located in the North Georgia Mountains. The Chattahoochee National Forest is composed of an eastern and western forest. The western forest contains Johns Mountain, Little Sand Mountain, and Taylor Ridge (Georgia). The combined total area of the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest is 867,265 acres (3,510 km2), of which the Chattahoochee National Forest comprises 751,069 acres (3,039 km2) and the Oconee National Forest comprises 116,196 acres (470 km2). The county with the largest portion of the eastern forest is Rabun County, Georgia, which has 148,684 acres (601.7 km2) within its boundaries.

Whissenhunt OHV Trails is a system of trails suitable for all-terrain vehicles or ATV's, and offroad motorcycles (dirtbikes) located north of Atlanta, Georgia. All Full size trucks, Jeeps, and 4x4's are not permitted on these trails. This trail system is located in Dahlonega, Georgia in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. The system offers about 11 miles (18 km) of trails throughout different terrains through the forest. There is parking available, but very limited, as well as other facilities such as camping, a loading ramp, picnic tables, and public restrooms.

Montaluce Winery & Estates was established as a winery-based community in Dahlonega, Georgia, 40 miles (64 km) north of Atlanta in 2007 by a partnership between Atlanta-based Beecham Builders, Greenway Development and Harrison Design Associates and featured Tuscan-styled architecture. Lots began at $70,000 and homes at $370,000 with a goal to finish the 400 acre project within five to six years. However, the project suffered from the economic fallout of the Great Recession and it went up for auction in 2014.It currently operates as Montaluce Winery & Restaurant and offers villas from the prior community for rent.

Youngcane Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Georgia.The stream was named after Young Cane, the son of Long Cane, a Cherokee chieftain. Variant names are "Pine Log Creek" and "Young Cane Creek".

Lake Nottely (also called Nottely Reservoir) is one of many reservoirs of the Tennessee Valley Authority. It is located entirely in Union County, Georgia in the United States and within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests. Formed in 1942 by the damming of the Nottely River, Nottely Reservoir extends 20 miles (30 km) upstream to the town of Blairsville. Construction of Nottely Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. The dam is 184 feet (56 m) high and stretches 2,300 feet (701 m) across the Nottely River. Lake Nottely is approximately 20 miles (32 km) long and 102 feet (31 m) wide as well as an average depth of 10.6 metres (35 ft), a max depth of 98 feet (30 m) at the dam, and has a flood-storage capacity of 61,588 acre-feet (75,968,000 m3). Its primary purpose was for flood control in the Tennessee River watershed, but in the 1950s a single 15 megawatt generator was installed for power generation. Approximately 70% of the shoreline is under the jurisdiction of the United States Forest Service and undeveloped. In recent years, many new homes and properties have contributed to Lake Nottely's growing importance for recreation. Its proximity to Atlanta (2 hours) is resulting in increased use of this reservoir.
