Luling–Destrehan Ferry

The MV George Prince ferry disaster was a nautical disaster that occurred in the Mississippi River in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States, on the morning of October 20, 1976 (1976-10-20). The Luling–Destrehan Ferry George Prince was struck by the Norwegian tanker SS Frosta, which was traveling upriver. The collision occurred at mile post 120.8 above Head of Passes, less than three-quarters of a mile from the construction site of the Luling Bridge which would replace the ferry seven years later. The ferry was crossing from Destrehan, Louisiana on the East Bank to Luling, Louisiana on the West Bank. Ninety-six passengers and crew were aboard the ferry when it was struck, and seventy-eight perished. This accident is the deadliest ferry disaster in United States history. It is also the deadliest peacetime nautical disaster involving a non-submersible vessel in U.S. waters since the explosion of the SS Grandcamp in 1947, which killed 581 people. In addition, it is the deadliest accident involving a single vessel in U.S waters since a fire on board the SS Morro Castle in 1934, which killed 137 people.

Destrehan Plantation (French: Plantation Destrehan) is an antebellum mansion, in the French Colonial style, modified with Greek Revival architectural elements. It is located in southeast Louisiana, near the town of the same name, Destrehan. During the 19th century, the plantation was a major producer of indigo and then sugarcane. The home is most commonly associated with its second owner, Jean-Noël Destréhan, who served briefly as the first United States Senator from Louisiana in 1812. He was influential in the transition of the Orleans Territory to statehood. The house is a unique example of a plantation home outliving the oil refinery that had been built around it. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural quality and association with important people and events in Louisiana history.

It is held at the St. Charles Parish West Bank Bridge Park under the Hale Boggs Bridge.The Alligator Festival has musical acts that perform at the fair. Vendors sell food and range of items such as toys, candles, clothes and jewelry. The food offerings include items such as jambalaya, pastalaya, fried and grilled alligator, funnel cakes, Hamburgers, French fries, hot dogs plus other local, homemade dishes.The Alligator Festival is sponsored by the Rotary Club and they collect donations to make the festival possible. The money raised is used to help St. Charles Parish give scholarships to St. Charles Parish Public School System students and build freshwater wells in foreign countries.

The Ormond Plantation House is a French Colonial-style, Creole plantation house located in Destrehan, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The house was built in the late 18th century, using bricks between cypress studs. This type of construction, called briquettes entre poteaux or "brick between posts," was used on the front and rear walls, with a type of adobe filling on the side walls. Rounded cement and brick columns supported the front veranda, or gallery, with wood columns on the second floor supporting the roof.
