Stockbury Hill Wood

Stockbury is a village and civil parish in the Maidstone district of Kent, England. The population of the civil parish at the Census 2011 was 691.In 1800, Edward Hasted noted, it was called in the Domesday survey, Stochingeberge, in later records, Stockesburie, and then Stockbury. Most of the parish was within the hundred of Eyhorne and a division of West Kent.Most of the parish is on a valley (between Key Street, Sittingbourne and Detling Hill, Maidstone).On St. Mary Magdalen's day, 22 July, there used to be a pedlars fair near the Three Squirrels public house.The parish church, dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, is a Grade I listed building and the adjacent ringwork is a scheduled monument. Listed in the Domesday Book.

St Mary Magdalene is a parish church in Stockbury, Kent built in the late 12th century with additions in the 13th and 15th centuries and restoration in the 19th century. It is a Grade I listed building.Construction of the church was begun around 1200 with the chancel and the north aisle surviving from this period. It is constructed of flint with stone dressings. The roofs are of plain tiles. The nave and south aisle were reconstructed in the 19th century by R. C. Hussey. Each aisle has a centrally placed porch, the north one in use as the vestry and the south one having been reconstructed in the 19th century.The 15th-century west tower is attached to the nave at a slight angle. It is of two stages with a battlemented parapet with a gargoyle-punctuated string course at its base. A circular stair turret on the south-east corner of the tower rises above the tower's roof to form the church's highest point and is surmounted with a weathervane dated 1676. A smaller turret built into the wall on the north side of the tower is 19th-century. The arched west window in the tower is early perpendicular.The north aisle features two large perpendicular windows and a battlemented rood loft stair turret. The rebuilt south aisle has rectangular and arched perpendicular windows. The north and south transepts contain paired lancet windows on their east sides, one of which in the north transept is early 13th century. The end walls of the transepts contain large perpendicular windows. The chancel has lancet windows on the north and south sides and three plain arched windows in the east end constructed in the 19th century.Internally, the nave is divided from the aisles on each side with an arcade of four bays mostly reconstructed in the 19th century. The chancel is also arcaded on each side with for arches, the two western ones on each side giving access to the transepts. The nave and the south transept roofs are built with moulded crown posts. The rest of the roof has plain ceilings.The font has an ogee-shaped wooden cover and the south wall of the chancel contains a piscina. Two monumental brasses are set into the chancel floor dedicated to John and Dorothy Hooper (d. 1617 and 1648).The churchyard contains a war memorial and a number of Grade II listed headstones and a Grade II listed tomb. Adjacent to the church yard on the south side are the earthwork remains of a Norman ringwork fortification, a scheduled monument.

Yelsted is a hamlet in the Borough of Maidstone, in the county of Kent, England. In 1800, Edward Hasted noted that it was spelt Gillested. It was a manor in the parish of Stockbury, the manor-house was owned by 'John de Savage', (grandson of 'Ralph de Savage', who was with King Richard I at the siege of Acon, France). Later, the house was passed to Sir William Jumper (commissioner of his Majesty's navy at Plymouth). His son, William Jumper, (esquire) and his wife Jane. After William died, the wife sold it in 1757, to the Rev. Pierce Dixon, master of the mathematicalfree school at Rochester. By 1800, another family relative of the 'Jumper's owned the house now called 'Hill Green House'.In 1870–72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Yelsted like this: "YELSTED, a village in Stockbury parish, Kent; 7½ miles NE of Maidstone."

Queendown Warren is a 22.2-hectare (55-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-east of Rainham in Kent. It is a Local Nature Reserve, a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2, and a Special Area of Conservation. It is in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, and part of it is owned by Plantlife.

Hucking is a small hamlet and civil parish in the Maidstone District of Kent, England. It is located 4 miles (6.4 km) north-east of Maidstone and 5 miles (8.0 km) south-west of Sittingbourne. The parish is governed by a parish meeting. The settlement sits atop the North Downs in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) near the villages of Hollingbourne, Detling, Bicknor (where the population is included for census purposes) and Wormshill and between the main A249 and B2163 roads connecting the towns of Sittingbourne and Maidstone. The parish church is dedicated to St Margaret.

Hartlip is a village and civil parish in the borough of Swale, Kent, England. Parish estimated population in 1991 was 680, and in 2011, 746. In 2001 there were 566 registered voters.The name Hartlip derives from the Old English hliep, which meant a gate or fence. In combination with heorot (hart or stag), the name therefore means a "gate over which harts leap". The first recorded version of the name was Heordlyp in the 11th century.

It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2.This chalk downland site has herb-rich grassland, scrub and woods. Flora include the nationally rare Kentish milkwort and several uncommon orchids.The site is private land with no public access.

Royal Air Force Detling, or more simply RAF Detling, is a former Royal Air Force station situated 600 feet (180 m) above sea level, located near Detling, a village about 4 miles (6.4 km) miles north-east of Maidstone, Kent. It was a station of the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) in the First World War and the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the Second World War. The airfield suffered several raids by the Luftwaffe, especially during the period of the Battle of Britain.

Bicknor is a village and civil parish in the Maidstone district of Kent, England, north-east of Maidstone and south-west of Sittingbourne. It had a population of 68 according to the 2001 census.

Danaway is a village near the A249 road and the M2 motorway, in the Swale district, in the English county of Kent. The nearest town is Sittingbourne. It is set in the base of a valley, with the oldest houses dating from the late 19th century.

White Horse Wood is a recently created English country park near Thurnham to the north of Maidstone, Kent. Located within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the park is a Site of Nature Conservation Interest.
