Putnam Lake is a hamlet and census-designated place in the eastern part of the town of Patterson in Putnam County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,844. Putnam Lake is adjacent to the Connecticut border, which is crossed by a number of local streets. The community surrounds a lake, which is also called Putnam Lake.

It is in the southwest corner of the town, bordered to the south by the city of Danbury, to the north by Ball Pond, and to the west by the town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York. Taylor Corners was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Doanesburgh is an extinct locality in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York.A post office called Doanesburgh was established in 1839, and remained in operation until 1855. The community was named after Benjamin Doane, an early settler.

Ball Pond is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of New Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the southwest part of the town, with the pond of the same name in the central part of the CDP. The community is bordered to the south by Taylor Corners and to the west by Putnam Lake in Putnam County, New York. Ball Pond was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

The Old Southeast Church is located at the end of a short dirt road leading from NY 22 in the Town of Southeast, New York, United States, a few miles north of the village of Brewster. It is a wooden building formerly used by a Presbyterian congregation. Built in the late 18th century and later modified following a fire, it is the oldest house of worship in Putnam County. Today many of its materials are intact but it is the subject of ongoing preservation efforts. It and a small one-room schoolhouse nearby are the few remaining buildings from the former hamlet of Doanesburgh, once the commercial center of eastern Putnam County. In 1972 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the first property in the county to be so listed. It is currently owned by the Landmarks Preservation Society of Southeast and used occasionally as a cultural center.

Ball Pond is an 83-acre lake located in New Fairfield, Connecticut. It is the namesake of the CDP of the same name. Ball Pond is a glacial kettle lake naturally filled by groundwater springs and surface water runoff. It is located within the drainage basin of the Housatonic River and has a watershed of 246 acres (100 ha). The watershed mostly contains residential developments with septic-sewage systems, which load the lake with nitrogen and phosphorus. The pond has one outflow, Ball Pond Brook, which itself drains into Candlewood Lake.The lake was originally named Lake Hahlawah after a local medicine man. The Hahlawah Preserve is three parcels of protected forestland near Ball Pond.

Gayville is a hamlet in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York.Gayville was named for a family of early settlers.

Patterson is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The town is in the northeastern part of the county. Interstate 84 passes through the southwestern section of the town. The population was 11,541 at the 2020 census. The town is named after early farmer Matthew Paterson. The reason Patterson was spelled with two "t"s was due to the looseness with which Paterson spelled his own last name.

Milltown is a hamlet in the town of Southeast located in Putnam County, New York, United States. It is in the easternmost part of town, bordering the city of Danbury, Connecticut.

Morefar Back O'Beyond is a secretive, little-used private golf course located on 500 acres (2.0 km2) in both Danbury, Connecticut and Southeast, New York. The course can be seen from portions of the Richter Park public course and has garnered local rumor as to its origin and ownership.Course officials do not cooperate with the press seeking information about the facility. It appears the course was established in 1964 (some sources say 1962) by Cornelius Vander Starr who had founded the company later known as AIG over forty years before. His ashes are interred on the fifteenth tee. In 2006, it was owned by Starr International, a Bermuda-based company long associated with AIG and the Starr family. It is currently controlled by Maurice Greenberg, former AIG Chief Executive Officer. Starr International also does not discuss the facility. In 2010. press reports stated the course was owned by the private Back O' Beyond Inc., based in Brewster.It appears memberships are not available to the public and the course may only be used by employees of Starr International. Some companies associated with AIG and the financial sector were able to host functions at the club in the mid-2000s. Sculptures dot the course. The course, a par 69, measures 6748 yards. Edward C. Ryder (d. 1986) and also known for nearby Richter Park Golf Course and Val Carlson are credited as its designers.The course includes a restaurant and full bar. Walking is not allowed on the course; players must use a cart. The course also has a small driving range. Victor Boyd is the general manager. David Thompson is the course pro. New Fairfield High School is the only public high school in New Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. It enrolls approximately 500 to 700 students annually in grades 9-12 from New Fairfield, as well as students from the neighboring town of Sherman who elect to attend. The current principal of New Fairfield High School is James D'Amico. The school mascot is the "Rebel," depicted on school symbols as a Revolutionary War soldier. This mascot was chosen by students at the school in celebration of the United States Bicentennial in 1976, as that was the first graduating class. NFHS was ranked #59 by U.S. News & World Report among high schools in Connecticut for 2019.

The Bog Brook Reservoir is a 379-acre (153 ha) reservoir in the Croton Watershed in southern New York State, part of the New York City water supply system. It is located in the town of Southeast in Putnam County, approximately 38 miles (61 km) north of New York City. It was formed by the damming of Bog Brook, a small tributary of the East Branch of the Croton River. The reservoir was put into service in 1892, making it one of the older in the system. The reservoir has a drainage basin of four square miles (10 km2), and holds 4.4 billion US gallons (17,000,000 m3) of water at full capacity. Its main function is to serve as a storage reservoir for the 5.2 billion US gallons (20,000,000 m3) East Branch Reservoir, to which it is connected by a tunnel. The Bog Brook Reservoir is one of 12 reservoirs in the Croton Watershed. From the East Branch Reservoir, the water flows into the continuation of the East Branch of the Croton River, then into The Diverting Reservoir, then via the Croton River to the Muscoot Reservoir and the New Croton Reservoir, into the New Croton Aqueduct, and finally to the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx for distribution to New York City.
