University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences

The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) is the dental school of the University of Kentucky. It is located in the city of Lexington, Kentucky, United States. It is one of two dental schools in Kentucky.

UK HealthCare is the health care system that is based on the campus of the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, Kentucky. It consists of the university's hospitals, clinics, outreach locations, and patient care services along with UKs health profession colleges.

Opened in 1962, the Albert B. Chandler Hospital along Rose Street at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky is the flagship component of UK HealthCare. It is named for twice-former Governor of Kentucky A. B. "Happy" Chandler. The 945 bed medical facility features the Markey Cancer Center, the Kentucky Children's Hospital, the Gill Heart Institute, the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute and the Center for Advanced Surgery.The hospital is the only Level I trauma center in central and eastern Kentucky, and the only facility in the region to play host to a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit for infants. It also includes a 100-bed intensive care facility and 17 operating rooms.Ground was broken for the hospital in 1955, when Governor Chandler recommended that the Kentucky General Assembly appropriate $5 million for the creation of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and a medical center at the university. This was completed after a series of studies were conducted that highlighted the health needs of the citizens, as well as the need to train more physicians for the state.

The Linda and Jack Gill Heart Institute at the University of Kentucky is housed at the Chandler Medical Center along Rose Street. Opened in 2004, the five-level 108,000 sq ft (10,000 m2). structure houses clinics, diagnostic areas, six Cath and EP laboratories with associated support services and numerous administrative and faculty offices. It will also house, in the future, the University of Kentucky Hospital Center for Advanced Surgery that will include waiting areas, pre-operative and post-operative preparatory and recovery rooms and eight operating rooms.The building is attached to the University of Kentucky Critical Care Unit and is across from the Charles T. Wethington Jr. Building. The goals of the center are, To develop a nationally and internationally recognized center of excellence in cardiovascular research; To provide an environment for the development and retention of productive faculty; To facilitate the training of students, including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, medical students and residents; and To encourage the development of translational and clinical research with funding from federal agencies and industry. Renovations to the 5,000 sq ft (460 m2). first floor shell space will create a new Cardiology Center that will include Cardiology Diagnostics and Clinical Research Programs, as well as two MRI units and one CT scanner. Construction is expected to begin on the completion of the shell space on May 4, 2007, at a cost of $6.5 million.

The Charles T. Wethington Jr. Building is a 210,300 sq. ft. six-story brick and concrete structure for the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, located at the corner of Rose Street and South Limestone. It houses offices for the dean and faculty for the College of Health Sciences, along with numerous classrooms and teaching laboratories. It also is host to the offices of the Chancellor of the Medical Center, research facilities and research space for the College of Health Sciences. The original date of completion was April 2002; however, it did not open until February 2003. It is across from the Gill Heart Institute and is linked by a two-story pedestrian overpass. The building is named for Charles T. Wethington Jr., tenth president of the university.

The Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History, also known as The Nunn Center, the University of Kentucky, is one of the premier oral history centers in the world, known for a comprehensive oral history archival collection, ongoing interviewing projects, as well as being an innovator with regard to enhancing access to archived oral history interviews. The Nunn Center maintains a collection of over 14,000 oral history interviews made up of over 600 projects with an emphasis on: 20th century history; Appalachia; agriculture; African American history; the history of education; immigration; politics, and public policy; LGBTQ+; athletics; the arts; Kentucky writers; quilters and quilting; gender; diversity; the Civil Rights Movement; veterans' experiences; the history of the University of Kentucky; the Peace Corps; the history of healthcare; and industries including the coal, equine, and bourbon industries. Although the Nunn Center began focusing on Kentucky history exclusively, it has expanded to also document oral history projects with national and international significance. The Nunn Center for Oral History is part of the University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center.

The Student Health Facility is a building at the University of Kentucky along South Limestone, adjacent to the Charles T. Wethington Jr. Building. The four-story 73,849 sq. ft. structure, designed by Omni Architects of Lexington, will contain a partial basement and mechanical penthouse

The Sanders–Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, is responsible for research, education and service programs in aging. A Council on Aging program was founded at the University of Kentucky in 1963. In 1972, a grant from the Eleanor and John Y. Brown Jr. Foundation led to the construction of the current facility. Brown had just sold his interest in Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). The center was named for the Browns and KFC brand ambassador (Col.) Harlan Sanders in 1979. The four-story brick and concrete structure fronts South Limestone at the edge of the medical campus. The complex features 32 research laboratories that employs more than 150. Additional funding later from the state led to a program in biomedical research within the Chandler Medical Center. In 1998, the structure was expanded by 30,000 sq ft (2,800 m2).

The University of Kentucky (UK, UKY, or U of K) is a public land-grant research university in Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1865 by John Bryan Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky, the university is one of the state's two land-grant universities (the other being Kentucky State University). It is the institution with the highest enrollment in the state, with 32,710 students as of fall 2022.The institution comprises 16 colleges, a graduate school, 93 undergraduate programs, 99 master programs, 66 doctoral programs, and four professional programs. It is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". According to the National Science Foundation, Kentucky spent $393 million on research and development in 2018, ranking it 63rd in the nation.The University of Kentucky has seven libraries on campus. The largest is the William T. Young Library, a federal depository, hosting subjects related to social sciences, humanities, and life sciences collections. Since 1997, the university has focused expenditures increasingly on research, following a compact formed by the Kentucky General Assembly. The directive mandated that the university become a Top 20 public research institution, in terms of an overall ranking, to be determined by the university itself, by 2020. Two alumni from the university have won Nobel Prizes.

The University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is a public agricultural college at the University of Kentucky. The college was renamed the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment on July 1, 2013. The name change incorporates the college's expanded role that occurred with the merger of the College of Human Environmental Sciences into the College of Agriculture. The college's research, teaching and outreach programs encompass farms, forests, food, fiber, families and communities. On May 25, 2023, the college announced a $100-million gift from late University of Kentucky alum and former trustee Carol Martin “Bill” Gatton. The college subsequently announced it would be renamed the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment pending approval from the UK Board of Trustees. As of June 16, 2023, the college is officially renamed the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The University of Kentucky (UK), a land-grant university, has had agricultural education since the university's founding in 1865. Originally established by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of the newly created Kentucky University. The Kentucky University had been granted substantial initial funding from the federal government through the Morrill Land-Grant Act. In 1878 the state separated the Agricultural and Mechanical College from Kentucky University and the next year founded the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky under the leadership of James Kennedy Patterson. In 1908 the college was renamed State University, Lexington, Kentucky and in 1916, when the State University was renamed the University of Kentucky, the College of Agriculture remained a central point of identity for the institution across the state.
