Cleveland University was a short-lived university in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1851 by Asa Mahan the then-recently resigned president of nearby Oberlin College. (See also William Case.) It is notable for having been the first institution of higher education in the city of Cleveland, and for briefly being a "rival" institution to Oberlin College.

The Ukrainian Museum-Archives (UMA), founded in 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, is a museum dedicated to collecting literature, recordings, artifacts and other items that represent Ukrainian culture, Ukrainian immigration to America, and the history of Ukrainians in Cleveland. It is located at 1202 Kenilworth Avenue. With over 20,000 books, 1,000 different newspapers and magazines, 2,000 78 rpms and LP records and tens of thousands of posters, postcards, stamps, etc., Cleveland's Ukrainian archives are one of the largest archives in North America. The UMA holds frequent art exhibitions and also has online exhibitions, which can be viewed on their website.

Sokolowski's University Inn was a restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio. It was recognized as one of America's Classics by the James Beard Foundation.

St. Theodosius Cathedral (Russian: Собор Святого Феодосия) is an Eastern Orthodox church located on Starkweather Avenue in the near west side neighborhood of Tremont in Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest examples of Russian church architecture in the United States, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. St. Theodosius was the first Eastern Orthodox parish in Cleveland and is currently under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of the Midwest of the Orthodox Church in America. The cathedral is perhaps best known for its appearance in the 1978 Best Picture-winning film, The Deer Hunter, with Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep. It is also seen in the opening credits of Major League.

Pilgrim Congregational Church is a historic congregation of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Constructed in the 1890s for a congregation founded in the 1850s, it was named a historic site in the 1970s. Congregationalists began operating a Sunday school in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood in 1854, and their efforts resulted in the creation of a church five years later. The members began construction of their first church building in 1865, although it was not completed until 1870. It was suitable for the congregation's needs for only a short time, as construction on the present building was started just 23 years after the first building was finished. The name "Pilgrim Congregational Church" was adopted in 1894 upon the completion of the present building; they had been styled "Heights Congregational Church" into the 1870s and used the name "Jennings Avenue Congregational Church" in the 1880s. The building was a community landmark from its earliest years — electric wiring was included in the original construction at a time when no other Cleveland buildings west of the Cuyahoga River had electricity.Designed by prominent Cleveland architect Sidney Badgley, Pilgrim Congregational cost approximately $150,000 to complete. It is a generally square building typical of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, distinguished by exterior elements such as prominent rose windows on the northern and eastern sides. At the time of construction, the church was deeply involved in social programs in the community; rooms such as recreation space for young men, a library, and a gymnasium take up two-thirds of the building. The tallest section of the church is a square corner tower with a pointed roof; tall arched windows occupy much of its height, with circular windows and a belfry between the arched windows and the top of the tower. The main entrance also is through an arch, placed at the top of a wide flight of stairs.In 1976, Pilgrim Congregational Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of its place in local history and because of its historically significant architecture, which when completed was called an "epoch-making church building"; just four years after the building was erected, the plans had been used as an example of the latest ecclesiastical architecture at the Paris Exhibition at the turn of the century. It was one of twenty Cuyahoga County locations added to the Register in 1976.

Tremont is a neighborhood on the West Side of Cleveland, Ohio. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the district sits just south of the Ohio City neighborhood. It is bounded by the Cuyahoga Valley to the north and east, MetroHealth medical center to the south, and West 25th Street and Columbus Road to the west.Tremont is one of Cleveland's oldest neighborhoods, and was historically home to many immigrant groups, including Germans, Greeks, and East Slavs. It has numerous historic churches including Pilgrim Congregational UCC (founded in 1859), St. Augustine (1893), St. John Cantius (1898), and St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral (1912). The neighborhood has seen significant growth in recent decades and is today home to many restaurants and art galleries.

Kingsbury Run is the name that refers to an area on the southeast side of Cleveland, Ohio, located near the suburb of Shaker Heights. The area stretches westward through Kinsman Road. It contained a natural watershed that ran through East 79th Street and carried storm waters into the Cuyahoga River, draining them from the areas now known as Maple Heights and Warrensville Heights. Kingsbury Run was named after James Kingsbury (1767–1847), one of the earliest settlers in the Western Reserve, who became the first inhabitant of Newburgh in 1797. It is also the route through which the RTA Rapid Transit travels on its way to Public Square in downtown Cleveland. Kingsbury Run became notorious in the mid-1930s when an unidentified serial killer, the Cleveland Torso Murderer, used the area as a dumping ground for the dismembered remains of some of their first victims. In 1938, Eliot Ness directed police to raid the area. They evicted 300 individuals from the area and burned down approximately 100 shanty homes in a desperate attempt to find the killer.

The Park Building is a historic commercial building on Public Square in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It was named a historic site in 1996. Nine stories tall, the Park Building abuts a four-story building to the south and the taller May Company Building to the rear; the side facing Public Square is several times the length of the Ontario Street-facing front. The walls are primarily brick, covered with an asphalt roof and resting on a concrete foundation. Concrete construction is a distinguishing feature of the architecture; the Park Building was one of Cleveland's earliest office towers with floors constructed of reinforced concrete. This usage reflects the tastes of the architect, Frank Seymour Barnum, one of the region's pioneers of twentieth-century architectural methods. Among its architectural details are large bay windows with bronze and granite components, floors mixing terrazzo with stone, and carefully formed woodwork.For much of its history, the Park Building was used by small service businesses, including dentists, barbers, architects, and lawyers, but some spaces were used for purposes ranging from insurance sales to periodicals publication to foreign consulates. It was owned by the same family from construction in 1904 until a 2006 sale to developer Matt Howells, who later converted it into condominia; the first residents moved into the building in early 2009. Thirteen years earlier, it had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its architectural significance.

The Hope Memorial Bridge (formerly the Lorain–Carnegie Bridge) is a 4,490-foot-long (1,370 m) art deco truss bridge crossing the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. The bridge connects Lorain Avenue on Cleveland's west side and Carnegie Avenue on the east side, terminating just short of Progressive Field. Four pairs of statues designed by sculptor Henry Hering and architect Frank Walker, officially named the Guardians of Traffic, are sculpted onto opposite-facing ends of two pair of pylons, a pair at each end of the viaduct. They symbolize progress in transportation. Each Guardian holds a different vehicle in its hands: a hay wagon, a covered wagon, a stagecoach, and a 1930s-era automobile, as well as four types of motorized trucks used for construction.

A Christmas Story House is an attraction and museum in Cleveland, Ohio's Tremont neighborhood. The 19th-century Victorian, which was used in the exterior and some interior scenes of Ralphie Parker's house in the 1983 film A Christmas Story, was purchased by a private developer in 2004 and has been restored and renovated to appear as it did both inside and outside in the film. The museum is part of a complex of four buildings devoted to the film, and is open to the public year-round.

The Cleveland Terminal Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Ohio. The line runs from a point northeast of downtown Cleveland southwest to downtown along the former New York Central Railroad main line. At its east end, known as CP-175 by CSX Transportation, the Cleveland Terminal Subdivision and the Short Line Subdivision come together and become the Erie West Subdivision. Through freights diverge at this location onto the Short Line Subdivision to bypass downtown Cleveland. The west end of the Cleveland Terminal Subdivision is at a junction with the Norfolk Southern Railway's Cleveland Line and Chicago Line, a point called CP-181 by the railroad. The Cleveland Terminal Subdivision is principally used by Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited to access Cleveland Lakefront Station, however local freights and coal trains occasionally use the line as well. Though downgraded and single-tracked, the Cleveland Terminal Subdivision still has its Traffic Control System in place. The line is dispatched from CSX's "G" desk at their dispatching office in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Between 2002 and 2004, Ariel Castro kidnapped Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Georgina "Gina" DeJesus and held them captive in his home in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The three girls were imprisoned until May 6, 2013, when Berry escaped with her six-year-old daughter, to whom she had given birth while imprisoned, and contacted police. Police rescued Knight and DeJesus, and arrested Castro within hours. On May 8, 2013, Castro was charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. He pleaded guilty to 937 criminal counts of rape, kidnapping and aggravated murder as part of a plea bargain. He was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 1,000 years in prison without the possibility of parole. On September 3, 2013, one month into his sentence, Castro died by suicide, hanging himself with bed sheets in his prison cell.
