Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (Bengali: হাইকোর্ট ডিভিশন) popularly known as the 'High Court' is one of the two divisions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the other division being the Appellate Division. It consists of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh and the Judges of the High Court Division. The High Court Division exercises both original jurisdiction and appellate jurisdiction in civil and criminal matters. The prime jurisdiction of it is the Writ Jurisdiction, pursuant to which it is empowered under article 102 of the Constitution of Bangladesh to issue writ of certiorari, mandamus, quo warranto, prohibition and habeas corpus.

The 2024 Bangladesh judicial coup attempt was a series of events that unfolded in August 2024, involving an alleged effort by members of the judiciary in Bangladesh to destabilize the newly formed interim government and potentially restore power to the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The coup attempt was primarily centred around judicial manoeuvres led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and other judges suspected of being loyal to the Awami League, the political party led by Hasina.

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রীম কোর্ট) is the highest court of law in Bangladesh. It is composed of the High Court Division and the Appellate Division, and was created by Part VI Chapter I (article 94) of the Constitution of Bangladesh adopted in 1972. This is also the office of the Chief Justice, Appellate Division Justices, and High Court Division Justices of Bangladesh. As of May 2022, there are 7 Justices in Appellate Division and 86 (all are permanent) in High Court Division.

The Old High Court Building in Dhaka is situated at High Court Street, opposite the picturesque Curzon Hall. It was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century in Renaissance architectural style. It served as an official residence and governmental office before coming the High Court Building after the division of India in 1947.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ শিশু একাডেমি) is the national academy for children in Bangladesh. It was established in 1976 for promoting cultural development of children, and nurturing their talents.

Shahbaz Khan Mosque is a historic mosque located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Located near Mir Jumla’s Gate, this mosque serves as an example of late Mughal architecture in Bengal, known as the Shaista Khan architectural style.

Ramna massacre (Bengali: রমনা হত্যাকান্ড) was the massacre of the Hindus who lived in the region around the Ramna Kali temple by the Pakistani army on the night of 27 March 1971. It is estimated that around 250 Hindus were killed in the massacre.

Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body in Bangladesh, established under the Legal Practitioners and the Bar Council Order. It is the licensing and Regulatory body for lawyers in Bangladesh.The bar council can establish tribunals to investigate and prosecute complaints against lawyers. In 2019 there were five such tribunals. A tribunal may reprimand or suspend a lawyer or remove them from practice. It dealt with 378 complaints from 2014 to 2018. Nine lawyers have lost their license permanently and 6 were suspended for a limited period of time.

The Ramna Kali Mandir (Bengali: রমনা কালী মন্দির) is a temple in Dhaka that was originally built in the time of the Mughal Empire. It was also known as the "Ramna Kalibari". The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali. It is beside the former Dhaka Racecourse, now Suhrawardy Udyan. The entire temple complex occupies almost 2.25 acres (9,100 m2) and is on the south side of Ramna Park, opposite the Bangla Academy. The original temple was destroyed on March 27, 1971 by the Pakistani Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. It was the site of a massacre of mostly Hindu people.

The Mausoleum of Three Leaders (Bengali: তিন নেতার মাজার, also known as the Suhrawardy Udyan National Memorial), located at Shahbag, Dhaka in Bangladesh, contains the graves of three prominent leaders of Pakistan Movement from Bengal: A. K. Fazlul Huq (1873–1962), Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy (1892–1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894–1964). All three men served as the Prime Minister of Bengal in British India and after independence two of them also served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. The monument was designed by architect S. A. K. Masud Ahmad (former Chief Architect, Govt. of Bangladesh) and was established in 1963 during East Pakistan. The style of architecture of the monuments is an interpretation of Islamic Arcs.

Matsya Bhaban (Bengali: মতস্য ভবন, romanized: Motsho Bhobon, lit. 'Fisheries building'), also referred to as Matsha Bhaban or Motsho Bhobon, is a government office building and an intersection in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. The office building serves as the headquarters of the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of Bangladesh. The Matsya Bhaban intersection connects several major areas in Dhaka. Segunbagicha is located to the east and south, Ramna, with its iconic park, lies to the north of the intersection, while Shahbagh and Maulana Bhasani Road link to the west, which further leads towards the New Elephant Road, Katabon, the Science Laboratory Intersection and ultimately towards Dhanmondi. It connects major landmarks such as Ramna Park, Kakrail Mosque in Ramna, Department of Fisheries building, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Anti Corruption Commission, National Security Intelligence, Press Club, Geological Survey, Bangladesh Secretariat and International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha and Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka Club, BIRDEM Hospital, BSMMU, Institute of Engineers Bangladesh, Shishu Park, Bangladesh Bar Council and High Court and Supreme Court of Bangladesh. It also connects Shahbagh, Suhrawardy Udyan and Segunbagicha to Kakrail.

Dhaka Gate also known as Mir Jumla's Gate or Ramna Gate is a monument believed to be built by Mir Jumla II and enlisted as one of the oldest Mughal architectures in Dhaka. This gate is considered as one of the integral parts of the history of Dhaka.According to the popular belief during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Dhaka was getting bigger. Mir Jumla constructed the gate as the north entrance of Dhaka ascertaining the northern border of Dhaka with it.The gate was once a remarkable Mughal architecture in capital Dhaka and was used to enter in the city after arriving on the bank of Buriganga River. The gate was probably meant to guard the city from the north from the attacks of Magh pirates. It was severely damaged and was later rebuilt by magistrate Charles Dawes in 1825 AD. It is currently in the University of Dhaka campus area near Curzon Hall and Shishu Academy. One of its three parts is now in the area of Centre for Renewable Energy Research and another part stands inside the premises of Mausoleum of three leaders.
