Shepton Montague Railway Cutting (grid reference ST686316) is a 1.61 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest at Shepton Montague in Somerset, notified in 1992. It, which was part of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway, the section of Fuller's Earth Rock (Middle Jurassic) in England. The succession ranges from the upper part of the Lower Fuller's Earth Clay up to the Rugitela Beds.

By the 2009, the school comprised Sunny Hill Nursery, Sunny Hill Prep, a senior school and a sixth form with an overall attendance of approximately 250 pupils, of whom a third were boarders. The parish includes the hamlets of Cole and Godminster. The village lies on the River Pitt and other streams that flow into the River Brue. Godminster Lane Quarry and Railway Cutting is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest important for study of the Inferior Oolite limestones of Middle Jurassic age. The rocks do contain the rich assemblage of fossil ammonites typical of the north Dorset/south Somerset area. It is also important as a reference site for three sub-divisions (zones) of the Inferior Oolite — the laeviscula, discites and concavum Zones.

Cole (for Bruton) railway station was a station on the Somerset and Dorset Railway in South Somerset, serving the village of Cole, which is now virtually joined to the village of Pitcombe and the town of Bruton. Cole was the station where the Dorset Central Railway line from Templecombe met the Somerset Central Railway line from Glastonbury and Street railway station in 1862. Later that year the two companies combined to form the Somerset and Dorset Railway. Just north of the station the line crossed the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway although the two railways were not connected here. The goods yard closed on 5 April 1965 and Cole station was closed with the railway in the Beeching cuts in 1966.

Hadspen Quarry is a stone quarry in Somerset, England. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps for 1888–90, and may have been in operation for a considerable period before that.It supplies natural stone walling throughout the West Country. The products include coursed, coursed random and random rubble walling. The stone is still split and dressed at the quarry located close to Hadspen house and garden in the small village of Hadspen, within the parish of Pitcombe just outside Castle Cary. This golden colour limestone is seen in buildings in western Dorset and the surrounding areas, as can be seen at the Fleet Street site in Beaminster. Other products include name plaques, sawn ashlar quoins and capping stones. The stone is an Inferior Oolite of the Garantiana Beds, dating back to the Middle Jurassic.In 2007 Somerset County Council agreed a proposal to extend the size of the quarry by 0.3 hectares (0.74 acres).
