South Westminster

Khalsa Secondary School is a private secondary school located in the South Westminster neighborhood of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The school is part of a network of Khalsa Schools in the Lower Mainland administered by the Satnam Education Society of British Columbia. Khalsa Secondary School is the first Sikh faith based high school in Canada.

Brownsville was a former community in what is now the City of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Also known as South Westminster, it was located where the city ran a small ferry across the Fraser River, today approximately where the east footing of the Skytrain bridge is, this was also the former site of qiqéyt (Qayqayt), one of the main summer villages of the Kwantlen people and later, also the Musqueam people

Scott Road is an elevated station on the Expo Line of Metro Vancouver's SkyTrain rapid transit system. The station is located near the south end of the Pattullo Bridge in the South Westminster neighbourhood of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. It also serves the Bridgeview neighbourhood of Whalley, and the interchange between King George Boulevard and Scott Road is located to the north of the station. The station opened on March 16, 1990, and was renovated from 2013 to 2014.

Surrey-Whalley is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada. The riding's name was resurrected from a former riding in the same area, with similar but not identical boundaries. The newly created riding of Surrey-Whalley kept the majority of the original Surrey-Whalley riding and added a portion of Surrey-Green Timbers.

The Pattullo Bridge is a through arch bridge that crosses the Fraser River and links the city of New Westminster to the city of Surrey in British Columbia. It was named in honour of Thomas Dufferin Pattullo, the 22nd Premier of British Columbia. A key link between Surrey and the rest of Greater Vancouver, the Pattullo Bridge handles an average of 75,700 cars and 3840 trucks daily, or roughly 20% of vehicle traffic across the Fraser River as of 2013.

The SkyBridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Built between 1987 and 1989, it spans the Fraser River and connects New Westminster with Surrey. The SkyBridge opened for revenue use on March 16, 1990, with the second half of the Phase II extension of SkyTrain to Scott Road station.

The Eparchy of New Westminster is a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church ecclesiastical territory or eparchy of the Catholic Church in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The eparchy is a suffragan in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archeparchy of Winnipeg. As of 2004, the diocese contained 7,800 Catholics with 17 parishes, 11 active diocesan priests and 2 religious priests as well as 2 women religious, 2 religious brothers, and 2 permanent deacons. On 16 January 2020, bishop David Motiuk was appointed an Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of New Westminster.

Bridgeview is a neighbourhood in the Whalley town centre of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, that stretches south from the Fraser River to King George Boulevard. The neighbourhood consists of all the low-lying area between the Port Mann Bridge in the east and the Pattullo Bridge in the west.

Woodlands or Woodlands School was a hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada that served as a psychiatric hospital and later as a facility for children with a developmental disorder, as well as runaways and wards of the state. Many incidents of abuse took place there.Woodlands opened in 1878 as the Provincial Lunatic Asylum. In 1897 the name was changed to The Provincial Hospital for the Insane. In 1950 the name was changed again to Woodlands School. Woodlands closed in 1996. The site of the former school was also considered for a station on the Expo Line portion of the SkyTrain system. However, plans to redevelop the site never materialized before the construction of the station, meaning that even though the tracks were built to accommodate the new station, it was never built. The neighborhood has since been renamed Victoria Hill, and is home to 1200 new homes.After proposals to preserve Woodlands' Centre Block Tower were opposed by former residents, New Westminster council voted in July 2011 to demolish the tower.Similar facilities elsewhere in British Columbia included Tranquille in Kamloops, Essondale or Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam, and Valleyview, also in Coquitlam.

The British Columbia Penitentiary (BC Penitentiary, commonly referred to as the BC Pen and the Pen) was a federal maximum security prison located in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. The BC Penitentiary operated for 102 years, from 1878 until it was decommissioned in 1980. It was the first federal penal institution west of Manitoba. Gate house was sold on September 8,2021 and was renamed Governors Castle by new owners Vikram Bajwa and Sunny Sodhi. L.A. Matheson Secondary School is a public secondary school in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, and is part of School District 36 Surrey. Laughlin Alexander "Lockie" Matheson was a popular principal and well-respected School Superintendent. The school opened in 1969 as a junior secondary school as a feeder to Queen Elizabeth Secondary School but in 1998 became a full secondary school serving grades 8 through 12. In the 2013/14 school year, it was ranked 161st out of 316th in the annual ranking of secondary schools in British Columbia and Yukon.
