John Greenleaf Whittier Homestead

The East Parish Meeting House, also known as the Fourth Parish Meeting House, is a historic church and meeting house on the rural east side of Haverhill, Massachusetts that is beautifully restored and currently used as a venue for weddings, services, open mics, community dinners and meetings, and more. The 1+1⁄2-story wood frame Greek Revival building was built in 1838, replacing a previous meeting house that was built on the site in 1744. The Meeting House was used for regular services until 1906, when its congregation merged with the nearby Riverside Memorial Church. The East Parish Meeting House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. The building is now owned by a neighborhood association.

Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, also known as “Whittier Tech” and/or “Big Whittier,” was founded in 1972. Located in the city of Haverhill, MA, United States, the school currently serves about 1400 students, with a 12:1 student-teacher ratio. It serves many surrounding cities and towns primarily in the northern section of Essex County, accepting students from Haverhill, Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Rowley, Amesbury, Merrimac, Georgetown, Groveland, Ipswich and Salisbury. The school was named in honor of local resident, Quaker poet, and slavery abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier. Alongside this school, there is also a middle school called “J. G. Whittier Middle School” located in Haverhill also named after the poet.

Northern Essex Community College (NECC) is a public community college in Essex County, Massachusetts. The college serves residents of the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire. It has campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence. The college is part of the Massachusetts Higher Education system. More than 6,600 students are enrolled in 70 credit associate degree and certificate programs and another 3,400 take noncredit workforce development and community education classes on campus, and at businesses and community sites across the Merrimack Valley. The school's athletic teams are known as the Knights. Northern Essex Community College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.Northern Essex was the first Massachusetts community college to offer Competency Based Education. It is also host to the Northern Essex Community College/Methuen Police Academy, and the Essex County Sheriff's Academy. In 2001, Northern Essex became the first federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in all of New England. The NECC student population is 40% Hispanic – most of whom are from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Northern Essex offers an active athletic program. It offers men's basketball, baseball, track & field, and cross country. There is also women's volleyball, softball, track & field, and cross country.

The Hazen-Spiller House is a historic late First Period house in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Built c. 1724 by Richard Hazen, It is a rare example of a brick house of the time, and notable for its role in early 20th century restoration activities. The 2+1⁄2-story building is made of brick laid in English bond, with end chimneys and a central hall layout. The house was acquired in 1911 by early preservationist William Taylor, who took notes detailing the buildings First Period features. In 1915 Taylor sold the house to Wallace Nutting, who undertook a "restoration" that covered over some of those features and may have destroyed others. The house was one of a series owned by Nutting and showcased in a guidebook, Chain of Picture Houses, he used to popularized colonial styles.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Hastings-Morse House is a historic First Period house in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The oldest portion of the 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house, its central chimney and right-side rooms, were probably built c. 1706 by a man named Hastings. Left-side rooms and a partial leanto section on the back of the house were added during the 18th century. The house underwent a major restoration in the late 1957, which included raising the roof on the leanto section. Another 20th-century addition is the sunroom on the left (west) side of the house. Evidence of the building's First Period origins is still visible in the right front room.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Ephraim Davis House is a historic First Period house on Merrimack Road, north of the junction with Amesbury Line Road in Haverhill, Massachusetts. It is now an outbuilding of a farm, functioning as a garage and storage space. The first part of the 2+1⁄2-story house was built in 1705 by Ephraim Davis, who married in that year. This consisted of a central chimney and rooms to its right; rooms to the left of the chimney, and a leanto section in the back, were added later in the 18th century. The house remained in the hands of Davis descendants into the late 19th century. The house has been unoccupied since 1929, and has seen a variety of farm-related uses since then. Its surviving First Period elements of note are its oak timber frame and central chimney, although it is possible the chimney is a later 18th century rebuilding.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Winnekenni Castle is located in the over 700-acre Winnekenni Park Conservation Area, overlooking Kenoza Lake, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Inspired by stone buildings he saw while visiting England, Haverhill chemist Dr. James R. Nichols built it between 1873 and 1875 as a summer home, and he named it and the surrounding land "Winnekenni," an Algonquin word meaning "very beautiful." It is one of the earliest works of Haverhill architect C. Willis Damon. The city of Haverhill purchased the castle in 1895, and in 1976, the city acquired 50.8 acres of conservation land between the Castle and Lake Saltonstall. The Castle's elaborate Victorian interior was destroyed by a fire in 1969, which led to the formation of the Winnekenni Foundation by a group of citizens. Today, the foundation is responsible for the upkeep of the castle and the surrounding land and trails. Under the direction and guidance of carpentry teacher Paul Crowley and carpentry students from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, they were able to complete a refurbishing and remodeling of the building.

The Buttonwoods Museum is a museum operated by the Haverhill Historical Society in Haverhill, Massachusetts, in the Merrimack Valley. The museum includes a John Ward House, a Duncan House, and the Daniel Hunkins Shoe Shop.

The Rocks Village Historic District is a historic district in eastern Haverhill, Massachusetts. It encompasses a dense community of 25 mainly residential structures at the western end of the Rocks Village Bridge, an early crossing point of the Merrimack River, of which 15 date to the 18th century. The village is significant for its association with the poet John Greenleaf Whittier, who was born nearby, and for the artwork of Rufus Porter, found in one of the houses. The area was designated a local historic district in 1975, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Pentucket Regional High School (often abbreviated as "PRHS") is a public high school in West Newbury, Massachusetts, United States, which serves the communities of Groveland, Merrimac, and West Newbury. It is the only high school in the Pentucket Regional School District. As of 2018, the school's principal is Jonathan P. Seymour and assistant principals are Daniel E. Thornton, who is also the athletic director, and Frank Kowalski.

Lake Saltonstall, referred to locally as Plug Pond, is a small lake located in the southwest park of the Winnekenni Park Conservation Area, near Winnekenni Castle, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Accessible via the main entrance on Sanders Road or through trails leading from Winnikenni Castle, Lake Saltonstall has an area open to the public, and another reserved exclusively for Haverhill residents. During the summer months, it is open to residents for swimming, municipal boating programs, and picnicking with bathroom facilities. Residents and non-residents alike may fish on Lake Saltonstall as it is a state-stocked fishing area.

Merrimac is a small town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, and on the southeastern border of New Hampshire, approximately 34 miles (55 km) northeast of Boston and 10 miles (16 km) west of the Atlantic Ocean. It was incorporated on April 11, 1876. It is situated along the north bank of the Merrimack River in the Merrimack Valley. The population was 6,723 at the 2020 census. Historically a mill town, it has long since become a largely residential community. It is part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area.
