The New York State Inebriate Asylum, later known as Binghamton State Hospital, was the first institution designed and constructed to treat alcoholism as a mental disorder in the United States. Located in Binghamton, NY, its imposing Gothic Revival exterior was designed by New York architect Isaac G. Perry and construction was completed in 1864. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1997. In 2015, Binghamton University announced it had taken stewardship of the building and will proceed with plans for rehabilitation of the building.

McIntosh Laboratory is an American manufacturer of handcrafted high-end audio equipment headquartered in Binghamton, New York. It is a subsidiary of McIntosh Group which is under the ownership umbrella of Highlander Partners, a Dallas-based private equity firm.The company was co-founded in 1949 by Frank H. McIntosh & Gordon Gow. McIntosh Labs designs and produces audio amplifiers, stereo tuners, loudspeakers, turntables, music streamers, processors, and various other audio products. Although solid state components are a large segment of the McIntosh line, audio enthusiasts most revere the warm sound of the company's tube amplifiers. Some of their tube amplifiers rank among the finest ever created for home audio and theater use. Their Unity Coupled Circuit, patented at the brand's inception, is still used today in products like their MC275 amplifier, whose vacuum tubes—used in many of the company's products—help to impart a lifelike warmth and soul to the sound. "McIntosh transformers are hand-wound in house as they've always been" according to McIntosh president, Charlie Randall. Many of the employees working at the Binghamton plant have been with the company for decades and number approximately 170+ as of June, 2022.McIntosh Laboratory revenue was $25 million and $42 million in 2021 and 2022 respectively. McIntosh audio products can usually be recognized by their black glass front panels (circa 1960's to present), iconic blue VU meters (circa 1974 to present), and iconic gothic logo. Even the Mcintosh factory has a black facade with blue tinted windows to align with the company's trademark theme.

The East Side, as the name implies, is a neighborhood in the eastern section of the New York State city of Binghamton. It is primarily an urban residential neighborhood with retail along Court and Robinson streets and pockets of industry scattered along the train tracks. The East Side can be defined as encompassing the area north of the Susquehanna River, east of the Brandywine Highway (NY-7), downtown and the North Side, west of the town of Kirkwood and south of the Quickway, (NY-17)/(I-81). The area's "main drag" is Court Street which runs just north of the Norfolk Southern tracks and the Susquehanna River. It connects the Eastside directly to Downtown Binghamton and Kirkwood. The New York State Inebriate Asylum is located just west of the Kirkwood Town Line at the foot of Robinson Street. The Cameo Theater is a New York State landmark located on Robinson Street on the East Side.

Trinity Memorial Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Binghamton in Broome County, New York. It was completed in 1897 and is a High Victorian Gothic style structure constructed of bluestone with limestone watertable and trim. The front facade features a large square projecting tower with a side entrance and a smaller, secondary apse. Also on the front facade is a large Gothic arched window with geometrict tracery and stained glass.The original architects were Lacey & Bartoo. In 1949 the parish house was completed to designs by George Bain Cummings, their successor.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Stone Spillway, National Defense Stockpile Center is a historic spillway located on the grounds of the National Defense Stockpile Center at Hillcrest in Broome County, New York. It was built in 1944 of hand dressed fieldstone and concrete mortar, that was designed to direct runoff water from an intermittent stream through a gap in the riprap area and into the main ditch. The U-shaped structure consists of a 22-foot-long (6.7 m) center section flanked by smaller sections set at 45-degree angles. It was built as part of an erosion control project and believed to have been constructed by conscientious objectors under the Civilian Public Service Program.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Hillcrest is a residential community in Broome County, New York in the town of Fenton, directly north of Binghamton. To the north of Hillcrest is the Chenango Bridge and the village of Port Dickinson Hillcrest contains numerous single-family homes, a high school, two public parks, three churches, a public library, a cemetery, numerous industries and businesses, and a central plaza area within walking distance of most homes that includes a gas station, family-run Italian restaurant, ice cream parlor, diner, and other businesses. It lies in Broome County, and borders I-88 and the Chenango River.

Phelps Creek is a river in Fenton, New York, United States. It is approximately four miles (6.4 km) in length, with a watershed of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km2). Its origin is a pond in Fenton, and its mouth is the Chenango River in Port Dickinson.

Kirkwood is a town in Broome County, New York, United States. The population was 5,495 at the 2020 census. The town is named after James P. Kirkwood, who was an engineer responsible for constructing the local railroad. The town is in the south-central part of the county, southeast of Binghamton.

The county was named for John Broome, the state's lieutenant governor when Broome County was created. The county is part of the Binghamton, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to Binghamton University, one of four university centers in the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
