Placerville (, PLASS-ər-vil; formerly Old Dry Diggings, Dry Diggings, and Hangtown) is a city in and the county seat of El Dorado County, California. The population was 10,747 as of the 2020 census, up from 10,389 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Fountain-Tallman Soda Works is a historic building in Placerville, El Dorado County, California. It currently houses the Fountain & Tallman Museum, which is owned and operated by the El Dorado County Historical Society. The rustic vernacular Victorian stone and brick building, of the Gold Country, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1984. The two-story masonry structure was built as a soda water factory by John Fountain & Benjamin Tallman in 1852. The stone walls of the building are more than 2 feet (0.61 m) thick so ice and soda supplies could be kept cool. These construction materials also have protected it from fires that destroyed surrounding buildings (3 fires occurred in 1856 alone), and as a result it is one of the oldest buildings in Placerville. Water was pulled through a small wood framed hole in the wall from a spring out back in the hillside. An odd-looking contraption (a small pressure vessel) housed inside the building, added carbon dioxide (CO2) to the water. A replica is currently on display. Bottles were then filled and pressure caps added with wire twists to hold the caps in place. After the close of the soda water factory, the building served many different purposes for many different owners. At one time it was the town jail, the Pacific Gas & Electric Company office (1927-1961), and has had other associated uses and owners. When the building was donated to the El Dorado County Historical Society in 1981 by Fay Ripley Cannon, it became a museum upon the contingency that it be preserved for public benefit as a historical landmark, which was an earlier stipulation originating with the PG&E's sale. When the building was renovated, lifting up the stone floor revealed a bowie knife (handle long since rotted away), flakes of gold, and pieces of broken glass soda bottles with the original building owner's mark intact. These items are still on display inside. The building was converted into a museum by the generosity of many donors including using funds from the estate of Placerville native Stella Tracy. Originally called the Placerville Historical Museum, it contains some of Tracy's turn-of-the-century furniture and photos as well as other exhibits of 19th- and 20th-century memorabilia.Another nearby soda works, the John Pearson Soda Works, is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Church of Our Saviour is a historic Carpenter Gothic Episcopal church located at 2979 Coloma Street, in Placerville, El Dorado County, California, in the United States. The church is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. On November 17, 1977, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. It was designed by English-born architect William Patton.

Hangman's Tree was a tree in Placerville, California. The site of the tree is a California Historical Landmark No. 141, in El Dorado County, California. The stump of the tree is now under the building at 305 Main Street. During the California Gold Rush, the city was called Dry Diggins after the gold mining camp, but was known as Hangtown, as vigilantes ("Judge Lynch") hung many men for different types of crimes. During the Gold Rush, the site was Elstner's Hay Yard, next to the Jackass Inn. Methodist Episcopal Church in Placerville, California is a California Historical Landmark No. 767. The Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1851 in El Dorado County, California. Methodist Episcopal Church is the oldest church building in El Dorado County. The Church building was moved to its current location from its original site on the corner of Cedar Ravine and Main Street, Placerville 38.7287°N 120.796°W / 38.7287; -120.796. The roof support beams were hand-made from local ponderosa pine trees. Methodist Episcopal Church's first bell tower bell was purchased from the sailing ship Staffordshire. A historical marker was placed and dedicated by the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce in 1961 and re-dedicated in 1996.The Staffordshire was a sail ship built in 1851 by Donald McKay. The clipper packet ship was built in East Boston, Massachusetts. Staffordshire was 230 feet long, a beam of 41 feet and a draft of 29 feet. at 1,817 tons. She sank December 29, 1853 after hitting a rock at Blonde Rock at Seal Island, Nova Scotia

Placerville Union Cemetery, formerly Union Cemetery, is a burial ground formed in 1871 by a group of fraternal organizations, and located in Placerville, California. It had been established as a private cemetery, and in 2005 the management was switched to the El Dorado County.

Placerville Pioneer Jewish Cemetery is a no longer active Jewish cemetery founded in 1854 by the Placerville Hebrew Benevolent Society, and is located in Placerville, California. The last burial happened in 1968. It is a private site operated by the Commission for the Preservation of Pioneer Jewish Cemeteries and Landmarks in the West and is not open to the public.
