Fredonia is a city in and the county seat of Wilson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,151. The city was founded in 1868, and saw considerable expansion in the early 20th century, with a fossil fuel boom.

The Gold Dust Hotel, located at 402 N. Seventh St. in Fredonia, Kansas, was built in c.1884-85. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.It is a three-story brick Italianate-style building. It has also been known as Hotel Cunningham, as Farris Hotel, and as Gold Dust Hotel and Apartments. When it was completed in 1885, the Wilson County Citizen asserted:The Gold Dust is without doubt as fine a hotel as can be found in Southern Kansas. It would be splendid hotel in a city of ten or twenty thousand inhabitants. It is not only a grand building externally but contains the most modern appointments and conveniences of first-class institutions of this kind and is furnished in all respects in a most elegant and comfortable manner. Its ventilation is perfect and not an important essential feature for a number one hotel has been omitted.

The Wilson County Courthouse, located at 615 Madison Street in Fredonia, is the seat of government of Wilson County, Kansas. Fredonia has been the county seat since 1873. The courthouse was built from 1968 to 1969 by contractor Freeto Construction Company Inc. of Pittsburg, Kansas. Kiene & Bradley Architects of Topeka, Kansas designed the courthouse in the Modern style. The courthouse is located on spacious landscaped grounds at the city's center. It is two stories and faces south, with the main entrance on the east side and second entrance on the west side. It is constructed of cream-colored brick, red/brown stackstone, and concrete with a flat roof. A memorial clock tower utilizing the original 1885 courthouse clock is located adjacent to the sidewalk on Monroe Street on the north side of the courthouse grounds. The county seat was disputed from 1869 to 1873 with eight elections being held to determine in which city it would be located. The first courthouse was three stories, constructed of red brick and native stone by Gauth & Sedley in 1885 and designed by William R. Parson. It was razed to build the present courthouse. Kiene & Bradley Architects also designed courthouses in Coffey County, Greeley County, Jefferson County, Logan County, and Neosho County.

The Fredonia United States Post Office, located at 428 Madison St. in Fredonia, Kansas, was built in 1939. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 as US Post Office—Fredonia. It is a one-story, gable- and flat-roofed red brick building which is about 65 by 55 feet (20 m × 17 m) in plan.It includes a ten-part terra cotta sculpture titled "Delivery of Mail to the Farm", by artist Lenore Thomas. This was installed on the lobby wall above the postmaster's door in 1939.

Fredonia High School is a public secondary school in Fredonia, Kansas, United States. It is the sole high school operated by Fredonia USD 484 school district, as well as Fredonia Middle School and Lincoln Elementary.
