Kappa-dera

Genkū-ji (源空寺), is a Buddhist temple located in the Higashiueno neighborhood of Taitō-ku, Tokyo, Japan. The temple belongs to the Jōdo-shū sect of Japanese Buddhism and its honzon is a statue of Hōnen.

Kappabashi-dori, also known just as Kappabashi (Japanese: 合羽橋) or Kitchen Town, is a street in Tokyo between Ueno and Asakusa which is almost entirely populated with shops supplying the restaurant trade. These shops sell everything from knives and other kitchen utensils, mass-produced crockery, restaurant furniture, ovens, and decorations, through to esoteric items such as the plastic display food (sampuru, derived from English sample) found outside Japanese restaurants. The street is also an off-beat tourist destination. Nearby is located Kappa-dera, where locals offer cucumber to appease the Kappas.

Ueno Gakuen Junior College (上野学園大学短期大学部, Ueno Gakuen Daigaku Tanki Daigakubu) is a private junior college for women in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. It was established in 1952 in Taitō, Tokyo, then moved to Sōka, Saitama, before moving back to Taitō, Tokyo in 2005.

Ueno Gakuen University (上野学園大学, Ueno gakuen daigaku) is a private university in Taito, Tokyo, Japan, specialising in music. It was established in 1958. Its predecessor was a school for young women founded in 1904. One of the university's most prominent alumni is pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, gold medalist of the 2009 Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Tsujii entered the university's Performance Program in April 2007, and graduated in March, 2011.

Asakusa International Theater (浅草国際劇場, Asakusa Kokusai Gekijō) was a 3,860-seat theater located in Asakusa, Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, which was used for concerts and theatrical performances. It opened in 1937 and was closed in 1982. It was demolished and replaced by the Asakusa View Hotel in 1985. It was owned and operated by Shochiku and primarily featured the Shōchiku Shōjo Kagekidan (松竹少女歌劇団), an all-woman musical theatre troupe. The SKD often appeared in a double bill with a film. Other artists that performed at the theater include King Crimson and Whitesnake.

Asakusa Station (浅草駅, Asakusa-eki) is an underground railway station on the Tsukuba Express line in the Asakusa district of Taito, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the private railway operator Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company. It is numbered "TX03". While this station is situated relatively close to the station complex of the same name serving the Ginza Line, the Asakusa Line and Tobu Railway, there are no transfer passageways between these two stations. Passengers transferring between these stations must transfer at street level, as the latter station is located 600 meters to the east.

Tawaramachi Station (田原町駅, Tawaramachi-eki) is a subway station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Tokyo subway operator Tokyo Metro. It is numbered "G-18". While situated relatively close to Asakusa on the Tsukuba Express, there are no transfer passageways between the two stations.

The Ryōunkaku (凌雲閣, Ryōunkaku, lit. Cloud-Surpassing Pavilion or Cloud-Surpassing Tower) was Japan's first Western-style skyscraper. It stood in the Asakusa district of City of Tokyo (now Taitō, Tokyo) from 1890 until its demolition following the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923. The Asakusa Jūnikai (浅草十二階, lit. Asakusa Twelve-stories), as it was affectionately called by Tokyoites, was Tokyo's most popular attraction, and a showcase for new technologies. It housed Japan's first electric elevator.

Taitō (台東区, Taitō-ku) is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. In English, it is known as Taitō City.As of May 1, 2015, the ward has an estimated population of 186,276, and a population density of 18,420 persons per km2. The total area is 10.11 square kilometres (3.90 sq mi). This makes Taito ward the smallest of Tokyo's wards in area, and third-smallest in population.

The Denkikan (電気館) was the first dedicated movie theater in Japan. Originally a hall built in Asakusa's Rokku theater district to present spectacles featuring electricity ("denki" in Japanese), it was converted into a movie theater in October 1903 by Yoshizawa Shōten, the most successful of the film companies at the time. Featuring benshi such as Saburo Somei, it quickly became the symbol of the new phenomenon of the motion pictures and many cinemas around Japan were later created that borrowed the name "Denkikan." It later became a Nikkatsu theater and then a Shochiku theater before finally closing in 1976. A historically accurate model of the theater is currently on display at the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo. It is also cited in Kaizo Hayashi's film To Sleep so as to Dream.
