University Hospital Hairmyres

Hairmyres railway station is a railway station in the Hairmyres area of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Greater Glasgow, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and is on the Glasgow South Western Line 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Glasgow Central towards East Kilbride. The line is single here with a passing loop approximately 398 metres (435 yd) east of Hairmyres Station, which extends for approximately 584 metres (639 yd) to Kirktonholme Road East Kilbride. It is crossed mid-loop by the A726 Queensway overbridge. Although the line was always single between Busby and East Kilbride, sidings existed to serve the former Radio Times factory in the College Milton Industrial Estate adjacent to the station. These were closed and lifted in the late 1960s. The Hairmyres Hospital and Department for International Development's office are located nearby. Up until the mid-1990s the area around the station was semi rural, but several new housing schemes have been built up in the area over the last decade or so giving far increased patronage to the station.

Hairmyres is an area of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, situated on the west side of the town, close to the main road to Eaglesham and Kilmarnock (also with access to the major A726 Queensway/Glasgow South Orbital dual carriageway), and is 2+1⁄4 miles (3.5 kilometres) from the Glasgow City Council boundary at the Carmunnock Bypass and nine miles (fourteen kilometres) south of the city centre of Glasgow. Falling under the council's East Kilbride West ward, it gives its name to University Hospital Hairmyres, the general hospital for the town and surrounding area which originally opened in 1904, long before development as a designated new town after World War II. The district railway station (on the branch of the Glasgow South Western Line) is at the bottom of the hospital access road; trains are operated on a half-hourly basis by ScotRail to Glasgow Central and East Kilbride. Next to Hairmyres Station is the UK government's Department for International Development, the joint headquarters of which is at 22 Whitehall, London. DFID (formerly ODA) relocated part of its operation to this site1- in c.1980 following a government initiative to create employment in a region subject to major job losses following years of industrial decline.The area now has a small shopping area known as The St James Retail Park. It is easily identifiable by its yellow and orange coloured walls. It hosts a few services such as eateries, a hairdresser and a vet.

Mossneuk is a predominantly residential area in the South-West of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. The area has very few facilities within it, as it is served by shops and conveniences by the nearby areas of Greenhills, Hairmyres and Gardenhall. The area, however, has a community hall, a church and a primary school, care home and a park. Mossneuk is the site of one of South Lanarkshire's 124 primary schools, the eponymous primary school - Mossneuk Primary School. As of 2011/2012, the school roll is approximately 450. The area also contains one of the town's nine Church of Scotland churches - Mossneuk Parish Church. The church is one of the few Eco-Congregations in South Lanarkshire and the minister, Rev. George Sneddon is also the Chaplain to Mossneuk Primary School. The church hosts the 7th East Kilbride Girls' Brigade and 11th East Kilbride Boys' Brigade. The area was also the site of the murder of local schoolboy, 16-year-old Jack Frew in May 2010

Westwood is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride. It was name-checked by one of its former inhabitants, Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera, in the song "Somewhere In My Heart". Part of the song's lyrics proclaim "From Westwood to Hollywood, The one thing that's understood, Is that you can't buy time, But you can sell your soul, And the closest thing to heaven is rock and roll".Westwood is home to one secondary School, which under South Lanarkshire Council's Schools modernisation programme, was the first of the new schools in the town to be built, near to the site of the original school building. It also boasts two primary schools, East Milton Primary School based in Vancouver Drive and Canberra Primary School which is located on Belmont Drive. Westwood like its other neighbourhoods has a parade of shops, being based in Westwood Square. Westwood is home to Westwood Amateur Football Club who play in the Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur Football League.

Peel Park is an area of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is a business park, and home to the following companies:

Newlandsmuir is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. It is a relatively modern residential development in the southern half of the town, separating Greenhills from Mossneuk. Its name comes from the former Newlandsmuir Farm, which was demolished during the summer of 2006 after permission was granted for a housing development. The stables and riding school operated at the farm have now moved to Sandford near Strathaven. The area is approximately half a kilometre in diameter, and sits near the town border to the south west.

Gardenhall is an affluent area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. Gardenhall is a residential district which lies on the town's south-western edge. It borders Mossneuk and Hairmyres to the East, and Newlandsmuir to the South. It is home to the terminus bus-stop of the First Bus Greater Glasgow 21 route. It also has the Gardenhall Inn within its boundaries. The East Kilbride local bus service, the First Bus M1 service, as well as the Mcgills services 395/396 and 399 also pass through the area.

College Milton is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. It lies on the western edge of the town, bordering West Mains, and consists of a large industrial estate, split into Northern and Southern halves by the A726 road.

The National Museum of Rural Life, previously known as the Museum of Scottish Country Life, is based at Wester Kittochside farm, lying between East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire and Carmunnock in Glasgow. It is run by National Museums Scotland.

Duncanrig Secondary School is a secondary school within the town of East Kilbride in the South Lanarkshire council area in Scotland. The original building was designed in 1953 by the Scottish architect Basil Spence.

Philipshill is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. Its borders are unclear and the area it encompasses is also often considered to be part of Peel Park. The area features a garden centre, and Centre One - a Revenue and Customs call centre built as a replacement to the former building of the same name in East Kilbride's town centre.

Westwoodhill is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire.Along with Murrayhill, it forms a boundary between Westwood and the Murray. The eponymous Highway also connects these areas to Greenhills, Newlandsmuir and Mossneuk.
