Kolonnawa (Sinhala: කොලොන්නාව, Tamil: கொழுன்னை) is a town located on the eastern boundary of Colombo District, Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is bounded by Kelani River to the north, Kotikawatta-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha to the east, Kotte Municipal Council to the south and Colombo Municipal Council to the west.

Dematagoda is a suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is represented by divisional code 9 (Colombo 09). It is surrounded by the suburbs of Borella, Maradana and Kolonnawa. The Baseline Road passes through Dematagoda. It is the only location in Sri Lanka to have two railway stations and the first to have a flyover.

Peliyagoda is a town in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, lying mostly on the north shore of the Kelani River. As of 2020 it had an estimated population of 28, 784. The Airport Expressway's entry point and the Toll Plaza starts from the Peliyagoda section of the highway.

St. John's College, Colombo (Sinhala : ශාන්ත ජෝන් විද්‍යාලය) is a Government school for boys which is hosted by Western Provincial Council. In here about 1,100+ students are studying. This school was established on 16 January 1939 by Rev. Maurice John Legoc. The first principal was B. Wean Sander.

The Maligawatta stampede was a fatal incident which occurred on 21 May 2020, near a Muslim Jumma residence in Maligawatta, Colombo-10, amid lockdown and curfew which was imposed in the area due to COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The incident happened around 1:00pm while charity donation program was conducted to distribute money for the Maligawatta area residents on the eve of Ramadan.

Maligawatta is a suburb in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Maligawatta is located approximately 3 km (1.9 mi) north-east from the centre of Colombo, Colombo Fort. The name Maligawatta is from the Sinhalese language which translates into garden of the palace.The R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium is located in this area on Khettarama Road.

The Welikada Prison (also known as the Magazine Prison) is a maximum security prison and the largest prison in Sri Lanka. It was built in 1841 by the British colonial government under Governor Cameron. The prison covers an area of 48 acres (190,000 m2). It is overcrowded with about 1700 detainees exceeding the actual number that could be accommodated. The prison also has a gallows (unused since 1959) and its own hospital. The prison is administered by the Department of Prisons. Following the attempted military coup in 1962, the arrested military and police officers were remanded pending trial in a special section at Welikada prison called the Magazine Section. To guard these officers, a special security detachment called the composite guard was selected from the Ceylon Light Infantry, with Major A Hulangamuwa in charge.

The attack on the Magazine prison was an attack carried by Deshapremi Janatha Viyaparaya (Patriotic People's Movement), the armed wing of the JVP which was staging a rebellion within Sri Lanka.

The R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium (RPS) (Sinhala: ආර්. ප්‍රේමදාස ක්‍රීඩාංගනය, Tamil: ஆர். பிரேமதாச அரங்கம்; formerly known as Khettarama Stadium) is a cricket stadium on Khettarama Road, in the Maligawatta suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The stadium was, before June 1994, known as the Khettarama Cricket Stadium and is today one of the main venues where the Sri Lankan cricket team play, having hosted more than 100 one-day international matches. It is the largest stadium in Sri Lanka with a capacity of 35,000 spectators. It has hosted the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final between Sri Lanka and West Indies; the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy final between Sri Lanka and India and first semi-final of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. This was where the highest Test score in history was recorded; 952 by Sri Lanka against India. With capacity exceeding Lord's in England, the stadium is known as the "home of Sri Lankan cricket".

The Kelanitissa Power Station is a state-owned power station located on the south bank of the Kelani River in the northern part of the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Commissioned in 1964, it is the first thermal power station built in Sri Lanka, after the country gained independence. The facility has a current gross installed capacity of 360 MW, a significant amount when compared to the total installed capacity of nearly 4,086 MW in the year 2017. The facility is owned and operated by the Ceylon Electricity Board.The power station has a total of 10 generation units: two 25 MW boiler steam units, six 20 MW gas turbines, one 115 MW gas turbine, and one 165 MW combined cycle unit. As of 2018, both 25 MW units and two 20 MW units were decommissioned after the commissioning of the combined cycle unit. The old units are now used as peak-load units. The 115 MW was sent to Italy for renovations in 2011.The newest 165 MW naphtha-fuelled combined cycle unit was commissioned in August 2002. It consists of a 110 MW gas turbine and a 55 MW steam turbine, and one exhaust heat recovery boiler. The project was funded by the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund of Japan. Initially, the capacity was planned at 150 MW with two or three 37–67 MW units, but a single unit with higher capacity was subsequently chosen.
