Ompompanoosuc River

The Union Village Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge, carrying Academy Road across the Ompompanoosuc River in Union Village, Thetford, Vermont. Built in 1867, it is the state's longest 19th-century multiple kingpost truss bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Union Village is a village that spans Norwich and Thetford, Vermont, and sits along the Ompompanoosuc River. It contains a small cluster of homes with many dating to the early 1800s, a red brick Methodist Episcopal church built in 1836, a covered bridge, a small defunct school house, and a United States Army Corps of Engineers flood control dam.

The Root School is a historic school building at 987 Union Village Road in Norwich, Vermont, United States. Built in 1937, it is a rare late example of a one-room schoolhouse, made further distinctive by the survival of its original schoolroom interior. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Goodrich Four Corners Historic District encompasses a rural 19th-century village center in rural northern Norwich, Vermont. The village arose in the late 18th century, settled by the son of one of Norwich's early proprietors. The district has well-preserved examples of architecture ranging from the late 18th century to the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) is a United States Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center research facility headquartered in Hanover, New Hampshire, that provides scientific and engineering support to the U.S. government and its military with a core emphasis on cold environments. CRREL also provides technical support to non-government customers. CRREL arose from a consolidation of three antecedent organizations whose purpose was to understand frozen ground, permafrost, snow and ice as factors which were important in strategic northern areas during the Cold War. In its first 25 years CRREL researchers contributed to the understanding of polar ice caps, permafrost, and the engineering technology for developing natural resources in cold climates, such as Alaska. More recently, CRREL researchers have made contributions to science in climate change, the understanding of wave propagation for sensor systems, the control of snow on structures and ice in navigable waterways, and the environmental remediation of military installations.

On January 27, 2001, Dartmouth College professors Half and Susanne Zantop, aged 62 and 55 respectively, were stabbed to death at their home in Etna, New Hampshire. Originally from Germany, the couple had been teaching at Dartmouth since the 1970s. High school classmates James J. Parker, age 16, and Robert W. Tulloch, age 17, were charged with first-degree murder.Parker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for testifying against Tulloch, and was sentenced to 25 to life. Tulloch pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole. In 2014 the New Hampshire Supreme Court ordered Tulloch's sentence reviewed.

The Hanover Town Library, more commonly known as the Etna Library, is a historic library located at 130 Etna Road in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. It primarily serves the Etna section of the town; the Classical Revival building it occupies was the first purpose-built library building in the town, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a modest brick building, designed by Dartmouth College professor Robert E. Fletcher and built in 1905.

Etna, originally named "Mill Village", is a small community within the town of Hanover, New Hampshire, in the United States. It is located in southwestern Grafton County, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Hanover's downtown and 2.5 mi (4.0 km) south of the village of Hanover Center, on Mink Brook. Etna has a separate ZIP code 03750 from the rest of Hanover, as well as its own fire station, general store, ball field, playground, church, and library with adjacent conserved land and bird sanctuary. The population within Etna's ZIP Code area was 870 at the 2010 census.Commerce revolves around the Etna General Store and the Etna Post Office. The Appalachian Trail passes a mile or so north of the village before it turns northeast to cross Moose Mountain on its way to Lyme. Etna can be accessed from NH Rt. 120 via Greensboro Road or Great Hollow Road (Etna Road, north of the Lebanon exit (number 18) from Interstate 89), or from Hanover via Trescott Road (E. Wheelock Street). Etna was the site of the 2001 murders of Dartmouth College professors Half and Susanne Zantop, dubbed the Dartmouth Murders.

Hanover Country Club was a college-owned, semi-private golf course open to the public. The college shut down the golf course in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and for controversial financial reasons. It was located on the campus of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. Known to many members in the Upper Valley simply as "Hanover," Hanover Country Club was a classic New England 18-hole course that underwent significant renovations in 2001. The course was lengthened to 6,500 yards (5,900 m), four new holes were added, and all of the greens were reconstructed. Renovations were made by golf architect Ron Prichard with distinctive Donald Ross-style features; however, the results of the design were somewhat controversial among its members. The 1929 ski jump in the Vale of Tempe that became the symbol of the course was demolished in 1993. The grounds also include "Freshmen Hill", a popular sledding hill for both locals and students of Dartmouth College. Hanover Country Club was the home course for both the men's and women's golf teams of Dartmouth College. It was also the home of the Hanover High School state champion team. The club has been host to a number of outstanding professionals, including Richard Parker, now also the men's coach at Dartmouth College.

Thetford Hill State Park is a state park in Thetford, Vermont. It is a day-use park within the southern tract of Thetford Hill State Forest. The park includes paths for hiking and the 5-km Woods Hill Trail, a world-class cross-country running and skiing trail. Activities includes hiking, cross-country running and cross-country skiing. The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 for its historic facilities, some of which were developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It is currently under the care of Thetford Academy.

Thetford Academy is a coeducational independent school in Thetford, Vermont. Located at 304 Academy Road in Thetford Center, Vermont, it is the state's oldest secondary school. Thetford Academy celebrated its bicentennial year in 2018–2019. An historic New England Town Academy (one of approximately 20 remaining in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Connecticut), Thetford Academy serves as the designated public school for the town of Thetford. The academy also has partnership agreements with the town of Lyme, New Hampshire, and serves several towns that provide students a choice of high schools, or do not have a high school of their own. Thetford Academy also hosts a small contingent of international students from countries including China, South Korea, Greece, and Rwanda. In the 2022–2023 school year, Thetford Academy had 312 students enrolled in grades 7–12.

The Great Hollow Road Stone Arch Bridge (also known as the Etna Stone Bridge) is a historic stone arch bridge carrying Great Hollow Road over Mink Brook in Hanover, New Hampshire. Built by the town in 1914, it is one of two stone bridges in the town, and a finely crafted and little-altered example of stone masonry of the period. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
