Puntarenas Province

The Diocese of Puntarenas (Latin: Dioecesis Puntarenensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Costa Rica. It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica. It was erected as a diocese 17 April 1998.

Estadio Municipal de Puntarenas Miguel Ángel "Lito" Pérez Treacy is a multi-use stadium in Puntarenas Centro, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. It is nicknamed “La Olla Mágica” ("The Magic Pot") due to the warm weather that is common in the stadium. Formerly known as Estadio Municipal de Puntarenas. In 1974, then mayor Lorgio Álvarez proposed to rename the stadium after Puntarenas native football star "Lito" Perez. The motion was approved by the municipal council and the stadium took its new name. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Puntarenas F.C., S.A.D and A.D. Municipal Puntarenas F.C. The stadium holds 4,105 people. In 2009, Score One Soccer was granted a 10-year contract by Municipalidad de Puntarenas to operate the stadium. In late 2009 and early 2010, the stadium's locker and press rooms were renovated, field lighting was improved and it is believed to be the best stadium lighting in Central America.

Puntarenas (Spanish pronunciation: [puntaˈɾenas]) is a city in the Puntarenas Province, on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. As the seat of the Municipality of Puntarenas canton, it is awarded the title of city, which comprises the Puntarenas, Chacarita and El Roble districts. And as the city of the first canton of the province, it is the capital city of the Puntarenas Province as well, according to the Administrative divisions of Costa Rica.

The Aranjuez (Spanish pronunciation: [aɾaŋˈxwes]) is a river in Costa Rica that has its source in the mountains and crosses the Guatusos province of Puntarenas. Its basin is about 200 kilometres (120 mi) in area. It empties into the Gulf of Nicoya, in the Pacific Ocean. It takes its name from the ancient city of Aranjuez, which existed in the late 16th century. At the mouth of the river was the port of Ribera, in the place now called Pitahaya Vieja.

Puntarenas Estuary and Associated Mangrove Swamps Wetland (Spanish: Humedal Estero Puntarenas y Manglares Asociados), is a protected area in Costa Rica, managed under the Central Pacific Conservation Area, it was created in 2006 by decree 33327-MINAE.

Chacarita Airport (IATA: JAP, ICAO: MRCH) is an airport serving the town of Chacarita in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. Chacarita is on the Pacific coast at the base of the Puntarenas peninsula, just east of Puntarenas city. The runway parallels the Gulf of Nicoya shoreline, 300 metres (980 ft) inland. The El Coco VOR-DME (Ident: TIO) is located 31.7 nautical miles (59 km) east of the airport.

Aranjuez was a Costa Rican settlement founded in 1568 by the Governor Pero Afán de Ribera y Gómez. It was situated on the banks of the Aranjuez River and was a short distance from the Pacific Ocean coast where a pier, known as the Ribera port, simultaneously emerged. Aranjuez was depopulated in 1574 by order of the interim governor Alonso Anguciana de Gamboa, who relocated the population to the town of Espiritu Santo which he founded.

Guayabo Island Biological Reserve (Spanish: Reserva Biológica Isla Guayabo), is a protected area in Costa Rica, managed under the Tempisque Conservation Area, it was created in 1973 by executive decree 2858-A DEL.It is the location for many nesting sites for brown pelicans as well as various other species of birds. Nearby are the Negritos Islands Biological Reserve in the same Tempisque Conservation Area, and Pájaros Island Biological Reserve managed under Central Pacific Conservation Area.
