Lake Clarendon, Queensland

The Lake Clarendon Dam is a rock and earth-fill embankment dam with an un-gated spillway located off-stream in the locality of Lake Clarendon in the Lockyer Valley Region, South East Queensland, Australia. The main purpose of the dam is for irrigation of the Lockyer Valley. The resultant impounded reservoir is called Lake Clarendon.

University of Queensland Gatton Campus is a heritage-listed university campus of the University of Queensland at Warrego Highway, Lawes (east of Gatton), Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1897 to 1960s. It is also known as the Queensland Agricultural College, the Foundation Precinct Gatton College and Lawes Campus. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 6 January 2004.

Lake Clarendon State School is a heritage-listed state school at 35 Lake Clarendon Road, Lake Clarendon, Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1901 to 1902 by Patrick Fagan. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 June 2015.

Weeping Mother Memorial is a heritage-listed memorial at Hickey Street, Gatton, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by F. Williams & Co and built in 1922 by the same company. The memorial was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Gatton railway station is located on the Main line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the town of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley Region. The station has two side platforms, opening in 1866.

The Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) is an Australian prison facility located in the Lockyer Valley, 15 km north from Gatton, and 94 km west from Brisbane, Queensland. The 300-bed minimum to maximum security prison for females was built by Baulderstone and officially opened on 21 December 2011 by Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts. The facilities began operation in January 2012. SQCC is the first completed stage of the Southern Queensland Correctional Precinct in Australia. The centre provides secure placement accommodation for sentenced mainstream female prisoners classified as high or low security and has 104 secure and 196 residential beds. The facility is managed by Queensland Corrective Services. It cost A$485 million to construct. The prison contains 11 cell blocks. Each cell includes a TV, radio and bookshelves. The centre was originally managed by Serco. In 2019, the Queensland government announced it would take control of administration of the prison, a transition that occurred between July 2020 and July 2021. The higher levels of assault, linked to lower levels of staff, was the primary reason for revoking the contract with Serco. The prison also includes accommodation for aged and infirm prisoners in a residential unit and a medical centre providing palliative care. As of August 2020 it was announced that there would be a $653 million dollar expansion of the facility that will add an additional 1000 bed capacity.

Boer War Memorial is a heritage-listed war memorial at Crescent Street, Gatton, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by William Hodgen and produced by Toowoomba mason William Bruce. It was built in 1908, and was unveiled on 3 August by Governor of Queensland, Lord Chelmsford. The memorial honours four local men who died in or as a result of the Boer War, and is one of only three known Boer War memorials in Queensland. It is also known as the Fallen Soldiers Memorial and the South African War Memorial. The memorial consists of a life-size statue of a digger, atop a pedestal with marble plaques stating the names and ranks of the men who died. The memorial was originally located in the intersection of Railway and Crescent Streets and was moved to its current location in the late 1970s. In 1984 the monument was sandblasted to remove layers of paint. The original statue had been made of Italian marble; it was replaced at some stage by the current sandstone statue, and when or for what reason is unknown. The memorial was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

The Lockyer Valley is an area of rich farmlands that lies to the west of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and east of Toowoomba. The Lockyer Valley is rated among the top ten most fertile farming areas in the world, and the intensively cultivated area grows the most diverse range of commercial fruit and vegetables of any area in Australia. The valley is referred to as "Australia's Salad Bowl" to describe the area as one of Australia's premium food bowls. The valley is experiencing increasing urbanisation at both its eastern and western extremities. With a combination of vibrant rural living and affordable land and house prices, the region is experiencing rapid growth and development between the Brisbane-Ipswich conurbation in the east and Toowoomba in the west. Urban planning measures have been implemented to preserve the good quality agricultural land and rural feel of the valley. Such measures largely confine future development to non-arable land on the slopes of the hills.
