Imperial College London (legally Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine) is a public research university in London, United Kingdom. Its history began with Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, who developed his vision for a cultural area that included the Royal Albert Hall, Victoria & Albert Museum, Natural History Museum and royal colleges. In 1907, Imperial College was established by a royal charter, which unified the Royal College of Science, Royal School of Mines, and City and Guilds of London Institute. In 1988, the Imperial College School of Medicine was formed by merging with St Mary's Hospital Medical School. In 2004, Queen Elizabeth II opened the Imperial College Business School. Imperial focuses exclusively on science, technology, medicine, and business. The main campus is located in South Kensington, and there is an innovation campus in White City. Facilities also include teaching hospitals throughout London, and with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust together form an academic health science centre. Imperial joined the University of London in 1908, becoming an independent university in 2007. Imperial has a highly international community, with 59% of students from outside the UK and 140 countries represented on campus.

The Royal College of Science Union (RCSU) is a student union and science outreach organisation at Imperial College London which represents over 3,000 students in the university's Faculty of Natural Sciences. It manages the student societies for the departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology. The RCSU runs Science Challenge, a national science communication competition, and publishes the Broadsheet science magazine.

The Queen's Tower is situated in the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College London, England, just to the north of Imperial College Road. It is 87 metres (287 ft) tall with a copper-covered dome at its top. To reach the base of the dome from the ground on foot, one must ascend a series of narrow spiral staircases, comprising 325 steps in total. The tower used to be the central tower of the Imperial Institute, and is now the sole remaining part of that building.

The Data Science Institute is a research institute at the Imperial College London founded in May 2014. The institute is one of five Global Institutes at Imperial College London, alongside the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Energy Futures Lab, Institute for Security Science and Technology, and the Grantham Institute - Climate Change and Environment.The Data Science Institute has partnerships with international industry and academia, with formal investments from Chinese multinational telecoms company Huawei, multinational consultancy KPMG, and Zhejiang University, China.The goal of the institute is to enhance multidisciplinary data science research across the whole of Imperial College by coordinating and promoting data-driven research and education activities. These activities cover all areas across the College including engineering, medicine, natural sciences, and business. The institute houses a custom built large-scale immersive data visualization facility called the KPMG Data Observatory, which has a resolution of 132 megapixels that is thought to be the largest such system in Europe.

The International Health Exhibition was one of a series of international exhibitions held in South Kensington, London, in the 1880s under the patronage of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. Four million people visited the 1884 exhibition. The exhibition's motto was "From labour health, from health contentment springs".

Imperial College Road is a tree-lined road in South Kensington, London, England. It runs east–west with Queen's Gate to the west and Exhibition Road to the east. The road forms part of the boundary between Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to the south and the City of Westminster to the north. It lies at the heart of the area known as Albertopolis, with a number of museums, cultural buildings and educational institutions in the area, a legacy of the Great Exhibition of 1851 held in Hyde Park to the north and promoted by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. Formerly known as Imperial Institute Road, the road now takes its name from Imperial College London, on whose campus it is located. The Queen's Tower (surrounded by the Queen's Lawn adjacent to Imperial College Road) dominates the view to the north halfway along the road, along with the college's Central Library. To the south are the Department of Chemistry of Imperial College, the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, and the Science Museum. Beyond these buildings is the Natural History Museum.

Albertopolis is the nickname given to the area centred on Exhibition Road in London, named after Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria. It contains many educational and cultural sites. It is in South Kensington, split between the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster (the border running along Imperial College Road), and the area bordered by Cromwell Road to the south and Kensington Road to the north.

The International Fisheries Exhibition was a Victorian era scientific, cultural, and animal exhibition open in South Kensington, London, United Kingdom, between May 12 and October 31, 1883. (The busiest day was May 15, when the official visitor count was over 25,000.) One of many world's fairs that took place in the second half of the nineteenth century, the exhibition was the largest special event held in the world to that point, attracting 2.6 million visitors, an average of 18,545 per day. The grounds of the exhibition encompassed 21 acres (0.085 km2) of the Royal Horticultural Society grounds in South Kensington, site of the 1862 International Exhibition. Many of the exhibitions on display were based upon the Buckland Museum of Economic Fish Culture, a private collection at South Kensington, and were expanded upon by exhibits from thirty-one countries and colonies. The exhibition attracted attention not only for the variety of fish species and fishing equipment on display, but also for technological achievements such as the widespread use of electric lighting.

The Queen's Lawn is a green lawned area situated at the centre of Imperial College London's South Kensington campus, next to the Queen's Tower and immediately to the north of Imperial College Road. It provides an open space of 1,600 sq metres, and is surrounded by the Central Library, and the Sherfield administration, Chemistry, and Skempton buildings. It is often the site of college events, including student bands, fairs, and balls, as well as student activism.In April 2006, the Imperial College student newspaper Felix reported that the college was seeking permission of Westminster City Council to develop part of the lawn into a three-storey modular building, however this has not come to pass. A weekly farmer's market is held on Tuesdays, and Queen's Lawn was also the site of a world record attempt for the largest jelly mosaic.

The Faculty of Medicine is the academic centre for medical and clinical research and teaching at Imperial College London. It contains the Imperial College School of Medicine, which is the college's undergraduate medical school.

Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM) is the undergraduate medical school of Imperial College London in England, and one of the United Hospitals. It is part of the college's Faculty of Medicine, and was formed by the merger of several historic medical schools, with core campuses at South Kensington, St Mary's, Charing Cross, Hammersmith and Chelsea and Westminster. The school ranked 3rd in the world for medicine in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The International Inventions Exhibition was a world's fair held in South Kensington in 1885. As with the earlier exhibitions in a series of fairs in South Kensington following the Great Exhibition, Queen Victoria was patron and her son Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales, was president of the organising committee. It opened on 4 May and three and three-quarters of a million people had visited when it closed 6 months later. Countries participating included Austria-Hungary, Italy, Japan and the United States as well as the hosts, the United Kingdom. Attractions included pleasure gardens, fountains and music as well as inventions. One series of concerts including old instruments from Belgium. Other historical exhibits included five heliographs by Niépce with modern photographers such as Captain Thomas Honywood also being present. Inventions included folding tables, the Sussex trug, lacquer covered wire from OKI, a meter from Ferranti, a 38-stop organ equipped with a new floating-lever pneumatic action, and Philip Cardew won a gold medal for his hot-wire galvanometer, or voltmeter. The Verity Brothers of Leeds won the "highest award for building appliances".
