The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, with scientific and technical service tasks. It is a higher federal authority and a public-law institution directly under federal government control, without legal capacity, under the auspices of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The Federal Agricultural Research Center (FAL) (German: Bundesforschungsanstalt für Landwirtschaft), headquartered in Braunschweig, was a federal authority of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. On January 1, 2008, FAL was split into the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, the Julius Kuehn Institute and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute. The Federal Research Institute for Agriculture was divided into four areas: Soil / Plant (Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Agronomy and green agriculture, agro-ecology) Animal (animal nutrition, animal husbandry, animal welfare and animal husbandry) Technology (technology and biosystems, engineering and Construction) Agricultural Economics (Business Administration, Rural areas, market and agricultural trade policy)There was also a Institute of Organic Farming in Westerau.

Völkenrode is a quarter (Stadtteil) of Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany. Formerly a municipality in its own right and part of the district of Braunschweig, it was incorporated into the city of Braunschweig in 1974. Today, it is part of the Stadtbezirk Lehndorf-Watenbüttel. During the Second World War, it was home to the Luftfahrtforschungsanstalt (Aeronautical Research Institute, LFA), a secret facility for airframe, aeroengine, and aircraft weapons testing.Völkenrode, and the LFA, were visited postwar by the British Ministry of Aircraft Production survey team, headed by Sir Roy Fedden. Today, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt and the former Federal Agricultural Research Centre are located on the former LFA site.

The Zuckerraffinerie Braunschweig was a beet sugar refinery. Its early 20th century brick building on Frankfurter Straße in Braunschweig has been declared industrial heritage. Since 1996 it is part of the business center Artmax and houses offices and other commercial facilities.

Braunschweig or Landkreis Braunschweig was a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. The administrative centre of the district was the independent city of Braunschweig, which, however, was not part of the district itself. The district was disbanded on 28 February 1974, as part of a district reform in Lower Saxony. At the time of its disestablishment, the district consisted of: the municipalities of Abbenrode, Alvesse, Beienrode, Bettmar, Bevenrode, Bienrode, Bodenstedt, Bortfeld, Broitzem, Cremlingen, Denstorf, Destedt, Dibbesdorf, Duttenstedt, Erkerode, Essehof, Essenrode, Essinghausen, Flechtorf, Fürstenau, Gardessen, Groß-Brunsrode, Groß-Gleidingen, Harvesse, Hemkenrode, Hötzum, Hondelage, Hordorf, Klein-Brunsrode, Klein-Gleidingen, Klein-Schöppenstedt, Köchingen, Lamme, Lehre, Liedingen, Lucklum, Mascherode, Meerdorf, Neubrück, Niedersickte, Obersickte, Rautheim, Rüningen, Schandelah, Schapen, Schulenrode, Sierße, Sonnenberg, Sophiental, Stöckheim bei Braunschweig, Thune, Timmerlah, Vallstedt, Vechelade, Vechelde, Veltheim (Ohe), Völkenrode, Volkmarode, Waggum, Wahle, Watenbüttel, Weddel, Wedtlenstedt, Wendeburg, Wenden, Wendezelle, Wendhausen, Wierthe, and Zweidorf the unincorporated areas of Beienrode, Buchhorst, Essehof I, Essehof II, Essehof III, Meerdorfer Holz, Querum, Sophiental I, Sophiental II, and Wendhausen.The exclave of Thedinghausen had already been incorporated into the district of Verden in 1972.
