Combestone Tor

Dartmeet is a popular tourist spot in the centre of Dartmoor, Devon, England at grid reference SX672731. It lies at the end of the B3357 road, about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east of Two Bridges. From here, the road continues eastwards as a minor road with restrictions on the size of vehicles, past Poundsgate and over Holne Bridge and New Bridge to Ashburton on the edge of the moor. Immediately east of the river crossing, this road ascends Dartmeet Hill, a long steep hill that climbs 130 metres (430 ft) up the valley side. As the name suggests, Dartmeet is the meeting point of the two major tributaries of the River Dart: the East Dart and West Dart. The road bridge, built in 1792, spans the East Dart; just above it, at the side of the large carpark is an earlier, possibly medieval, clapper bridge, now partially collapsed. The actual confluence of the two rivers is just downstream of the bridge. Dartmeet is the official put in for the Upper Dart section of the River Dart for whitewater kayakers and canoeists.

The East Dart River is one of the two main tributaries of the River Dart in Devon, England. Its source is to the west of Whitehorse Hill and slightly south of Cranmere Pool on Dartmoor. It flows south and then south-west for around 9 km to reach the village of Postbridge where it is spanned by a well-known clapper bridge. Just above Postbridge the river drops around 2 metres in a short distance and the point is referred to as "Waterfall". It continues south past Bellever to Dartmeet where it joins the West Dart.

The O Brook is a short tributary of the West Dart River on Dartmoor in Devon, England. It lies near the village of Hexworthy, and the lower part of the stream forms the boundary between the parishes of Holne and Dartmoor Forest (formerly Lydford). An earlier form of the name was Ocbroke, and it may mean "Oak Brook", although oaks are rare in the area.The area around the stream is notable for its historic tin mines. A rock formation on the stream bank, known as the Dragon's Den, gave rise to the legend of the Dragon of the O Brook.

Pixieland is in Dartmoor National Park, Devon and is a visitor attraction, garden gnome manufacturer and retailer. It was founded by Ken Ruth in 1947. It has gardens free of charge for visitors which are full of the gnomes, pixies and other fantasy creatures that have been made on the premises since its founding. Pixieland is on the site of Dartmoor's 'Pixies Holt', an historical place for legends of pixie sightings. The figures continue to be sold in the shop and are hand-made mainly using moulds of the original 1947 gnomes. From the 1960s, they started to sell Devon sheepskin products in order to supplement the seasonal nature of the business.

Holne Ridge, on Dartmoor, includes some of southern Dartmoor's highest land. The ridge to the south west overlooks mires and bogs like Aune Head Mires. To the north east it overlooks the Dart Gorge with its many tors; Sharp Tor, for example. Hexworthy is a hamlet on Dartmoor, in Devon, England. It lies on the West Dart River a mile upstream from Dartmeet. Historically in the parish of Lydford, since 1987 it has been in the civil parish of Dartmoor Forest. Hexworthy has an inn, the Forest Inn, opened in the 1850s.Very close to the village, on the opposite bank of the West Dart, is the hamlet of Huccaby, which has a parish church with an unusual dedication to St Raphael.There was a long history of tin mining near Hexworthy. Tin works in the valley of the O Brook were first recorded in 1240, and the Henroost or Hexworthy Mine did not close until 1919.

At 515 m, Ryder's Hill is the highest point on the southern part of Dartmoor, Devon, England. On its summit there are two standing stones and a low cairn, on top of which is a triangulation pillar. One of the standing stones is called Petre's Bound Stone and it marks the boundary of three civil parishes: Dartmoor Forest, Holne and Buckfastleigh. The cairn, which is not very prominent, has an important history. It was one of the boundary markers of the Forest of Dartmoor mentioned in the Perambulation of 1240 and has been known as "Knattleborough" (or variations of that name) since at least the 17th century.Ryder's Hill can be reached by walking up Holne Ridge from Combestone Tor, past Horn's Cross, a distance of about 3 km. From the summit there are good views over southern Dartmoor.

Dr Blackall's Drive is a track built along the hill above the River Dart, near the hamlet of Poundsgate, in the parish of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Devon. It was built by and named after Dr Thomas Blackall, a notable physician in Exeter, who owned the nearby Spitchwick estate, which he bought with his considerable inheritance from his father, also a notable physician John Blackall.

Aish Tor is a small tor above the northern side of the Dart Gorge in Dartmoor, Devon, England, that is accessed by Dr. Blackall's Drive from Newbridge Hill. It stands at 283 metres (928 ft) above sea level and is topped by a small cairn. The actual 'tor' is small and flat and generally hard to pin-point. Nearby tors include: Sharp Tor Leigh Tor Mel Tor Luckey Tor Bel Tor

Ponsworthy is a hamlet on the eastern side of Dartmoor, Devon, England. It lies in the steep valley of the West Webburn River about 3.5 km (2.2 mi) southwest of the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Its row of picturesque thatched cottages, climbing up a steep hill, are often the subject of calendars and postcards. It also has a mill and old bakehouse, converted to a house in 1976. Ponsworthy House, built c.1800, has a porch with Doric columns of granite. At the foot of the hill is the ‘Ponsworthy Splash’, where vehicles must drive through a small stream which runs across the road. The village is also well known for Ponsworthy Bridge over the West Webburn River. It has a single arch and contains a stone engraved with the dates 1666 and 1792 - believed to be when repairs were carried out. It was further repaired in 1911. The bridge has a 7.5 foot (2.3 m) width restriction, which is one of the reasons the village is so quiet, for it is impassable to modern coaches.

Poundsgate is a small village in Dartmoor, Devon, England, located on the road between Ashburton and Princetown. The postal area of "Poundsgate" is a wide geographical area. There are a few cottages clustered around a popular stopping point for travellers, the Tavistock Inn, which is thought to date back to the 13th century. There are also many farms in and around the village. At one time there was a shop, a post office and a garage. Poundsgate takes its name from the pound situated on the left-hand side of the road just past the last house when travelling toward Princetown. This house was once a smithy, the post office, the telephone exchange and a bakery. Poundsgate is situated in the ecclesiastical parish of Leusdon, the civic parish of Widecombe and within the manor of Spitchwick. It is even said to have been visited by the Devil (see the Great Thunderstorm, Widecombe).
