Bellever Tor

The Dartmoor Way is a long-distance footpath and cycle route centred on the Dartmoor National Park in southern Devon, England. The loop route of approximately 84 miles (135 km) that encompasses upland and moorland walking, deep Devon lanes, and also passes through towns and villages such as Okehampton, Chagford, Moretonhampstead, Buckfastleigh, Princetown and Tavistock.The Dartmoor Way links with the Tarka Trail, West Devon Way and Two Castles Trail.

Bellever is a hamlet in Dartmoor, Devon, England. It is located on the river East Dart about 2 kilometres (1 mi) south of Postbridge. The first mention of a settlement at this location is in a Duchy of Cornwall record from 1355 which gives the name of a farm here as Welford, a contraction of wielle (spring) and ford. However, in his High Dartmoor (1983), Eric Hemery proposed that the name comes from bal (mine) and ford, meaning the mine by the ford. Until the period after World War II the hamlet consisted of Bellever Farm (owned by the Duchy of Cornwall) and its outbuildings, with a small number of cottages for the farm workers. The farm gained a reputation for the introduction of Galloway and Aberdeen Angus cattle onto Dartmoor. However, in 1931 the Forestry Commission, now Forestry England bought the farm and began a large planting scheme here; several houses were built in the 1950s to house the forestry workers. The coniferous plantation known as Bellever Forest surrounds the hamlet on its north, west and south sides. In 1934 some of the barns of Bellever Farm were let to Youth Hostels Association (England & Wales) and now form the oldest, still functioning youth hostel in Devon.As of 2019 the hamlet is served by a daily bus service that runs between Yelverton, Princetown, Postbridge and Tavistock. During the summer Forestry England run a small visitor centre by the East Dart river.Bellever Tor lies 1.5 kilometres (1 mi) to the southwest.

Postbridge is a hamlet in the heart of Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. It lies on the B3212, roughly midway between Princetown and Moretonhampstead. Postbridge is next to the East Dart river, one of two main tributaries of the River Dart, and consists of a few houses, a shop, a pub and hotel, and a national park tourist information centre. Postbridge is best known for its fine example of an ancient clapper bridge over the river. First recorded in the 14th century, the bridge is believed to have been built in the 13th century to enable pack horses to cross the river, carrying tin to the stannary town of Tavistock. The clapper bridge, a Grade II*-listed structure, is still complete, and stands alongside another bridge, a Grade II-listed structure built in the 1780s.The settlement is also infamous for the ghost story of the Hairy Hands, which takes place near the village.

Hexworthy is a hamlet on Dartmoor, in Devon, England. It lies on the West Dart River a mile upstream from Dartmeet. Historically in the parish of Lydford, since 1987 it has been in the civil parish of Dartmoor Forest. Hexworthy has an inn, the Forest Inn, opened in the 1850s.Very close to the village, on the opposite bank of the West Dart, is the hamlet of Huccaby, which has a parish church with an unusual dedication to St Raphael.There was a long history of tin mining near Hexworthy. Tin works in the valley of the O Brook were first recorded in 1240, and the Henroost or Hexworthy Mine did not close until 1919.

Dartmoor Forest is a civil parish in Devon, England. It was formed in 1987 by the splitting of the former parish of Lydford. It covers about 56,000 acres (230 km2) entirely within Dartmoor National Park, and is the largest parish in Devon. Despite its size its population in 2001 was only 1,619. Due to its large size it is surrounded by many other parishes: these are, clockwise from the north, Belstone, South Tawton, Throwleigh, Gidleigh, Chagford, North Bovey, Manaton, Widecombe in the Moor, Holne, West Buckfastleigh, Dean Prior, South Brent, Ugborough, Harford, Cornwood, Shaugh Prior, Sheepstor, Walkhampton, Whitchurch, Peter Tavy, Lydford, land common to the parishes of Bridestowe and Sourton, and Okehampton Hamlets.The principal settlement in the parish is Princetown. Other settlements include Bellever, Hexworthy, Postbridge and Two Bridges.

Crockern Tor is a tor in Dartmoor National Park, Devon, England. Composed of two large outcrops of rock, it is 396 metres above sea level. The lower outcrop was the open-air meeting place of the Stannary Convocation of Devon from the early 14th century until the first half of the 18th century. On Parliament Rock, pictured here, the Lord Warden of the Great Court of the Devon Tinners supposedly sat during meetings of the Court.

Pixieland is in Dartmoor National Park, Devon and is a visitor attraction, garden gnome manufacturer and retailer. It was founded by Ken Ruth in 1947. It has gardens free of charge for visitors which are full of the gnomes, pixies and other fantasy creatures that have been made on the premises since its founding. Pixieland is on the site of Dartmoor's 'Pixies Holt', an historical place for legends of pixie sightings. The figures continue to be sold in the shop and are hand-made mainly using moulds of the original 1947 gnomes. From the 1960s, they started to sell Devon sheepskin products in order to supplement the seasonal nature of the business.

The Blackbrook River, also known as the Blackabrook River, is a tributary of the West Dart River on Dartmoor in Devon, England.

The O Brook is a short tributary of the West Dart River on Dartmoor in Devon, England. It lies near the village of Hexworthy, and the lower part of the stream forms the boundary between the parishes of Holne and Dartmoor Forest (formerly Lydford). An earlier form of the name was Ocbroke, and it may mean "Oak Brook", although oaks are rare in the area.The area around the stream is notable for its historic tin mines. A rock formation on the stream bank, known as the Dragon's Den, gave rise to the legend of the Dragon of the O Brook.

Wistman's Wood is one of three remote high-altitude oakwoods on Dartmoor in Devon, England.

The Devonport Leat is a leat in Devon constructed in the 1790s to carry fresh drinking water from the high ground of Dartmoor to the expanding dockyards at Plymouth Dock (which was renamed as Devonport, Devon on 1 January 1824).
