Mercy College School of Business

Mercy College (Mercy or Mercy NY) is a private university with its main campus in Dobbs Ferry, New York and additional locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Yorktown Heights. The university is historically affiliated with the Catholic church. Mercy College has five schools: Business, Education, Health & Natural Sciences, Liberal Arts and Social & Behavioral Sciences, and offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs. The university had 11,295 students enrolled in fall 2015. The student body comes from 43 states and 54 countries.

Nuits, also known as the Cottenet–Brown House, is an Italian villa-style house located in the Ardsley-on-Hudson section of the village of Irvington, New York, United States. It is a stone Italian villa-style house built in the mid-19th century. In 1977 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only surviving example of the early residential architecture of Detlef Lienau. Built for Francis Cottenet, a wealthy New York merchant, it was later owned and renovated by Cyrus West Field, John Jacob Astor III and Manhattan College. It remains a private residence.

Our Lady of Victory Academy was a private, all-girls, Roman Catholic high school in Dobbs Ferry, New York, United States. Our Lady of Victory Academy was established in 1961 by the Sisters of Mercy, who had established Mercy College on the same site in 1960.It was dedicated to preparing young women to take their full place in church and society by providing quality secondary education in fidelity to the Gospel, Catholic tradition, and the Mercy charism. The school closed in June 2011 after experiencing increasing financial deficits. The facility was taken over by Mercy College, which had previously shared the use of the building and campus utility system.

Dobbs Ferry Union Free School District is a grade K–12 school district based in Dobbs Ferry, New York, in the Hudson Valley, approximately 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan. It is a Union Free School District, which relates to its organizational structure, and it is not affiliated with labor unions. The teachers are members of Dobbs Ferry United Teachers. The district is very small compared to other districts in Westchester County, New York, with approximately 112 students per grade in three schools: Springhurst Elementary School, Dobbs Ferry Middle School, and Dobbs Ferry High School. The school district's governing body is the elected board of education, consisting of seven members, each serving a three-year term. The board members choose the President and Vice-president for one-year terms. Additionally, the board is responsible for hiring the superintendent, with Kenneth Slentz serving as the superintendent in 2024.

Nevis Labs is a research center owned and operated by Columbia University. It is located in Irvington, New York, on the 60-acre (240,000 m2) property originally owned by Col. James Alexander Hamilton, the son of Alexander Hamilton, a graduate of Columbia College. James Hamilton built his mansion on this estate and named it Nevis in honor of the birthplace of his father.The land was donated to the university by a branch of the DuPont family. Construction of the 400 MeV Nevis synchrocyclotron took place between 1947 and 1949. University president Dwight D. Eisenhower inaugurated the accelerator in June 1950. During its period of operation from 1950 until 1972, it was one of the world's most productive accelerators. Currently the laboratory specializes in the preparation, design, and construction of high-energy particle and nuclear experiments and equipment. These are transported to major laboratories worldwide. The lab also performs data analysis for these experiments. The laboratory is also home to the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility (RARAF) a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering biotechnology resource center (P41) specializing in microbeam technology.The Nevis campus is crossed by the Croton Aqueduct, the first water tunnel supplying New York City and now a popular walking and cycling trail.

Ardsley-on-Hudson station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line, located in the Ardsley Park area of Irvington, New York. It serves both the neighborhood and the northern part of the village of Dobbs Ferry; the main campus of Mercy College is within walking distance of the station. Trains leave the station for New York City every hour on weekdays, and about every 25 minutes during rush hour. It is 21 miles (34 km) from Grand Central Terminal, and the trip there takes about 47 minutes. As of August 2006, daily commuter ridership was 420 and there were 134 parking spots.A common misconception is that the Ardsley-on-Hudson station serves the similarly named Village of Ardsley, which is located about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east, and was once served by the discontinued Putnam Division line, which ceased passenger service in 1958.

It is a brick Colonial Revival structure located at the corner of Main and Oak streets, in the downtown section. It was built in 1936, as part of a massive postal construction effort. Its architecture features a high level of detail and ornament for the Colonial Revival style. Only two other post offices in New York in that style share the same level of detail. For this reason it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Armour–Stiner House is a octagon-shaped and domed Victorian-style house located at 45 West Clinton Avenue in Irvington, in Westchester County, New York. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It is the only known fully domed octagonal residence. The house was modeled after Donato Bramante’s 1502 Tempietto in Rome, which in turn was based on a Tholos, a type of ancient classical temple. The house was built in 1859–1860 by financier Paul J. Armour based on the architectural ideas of Orson Squire Fowler, the author of The Octagon House: A Home for All Occasions. Fowler believed that octagonal houses enclosed more space, provided more interior sunlight, and that its rooms were easily accessible to each other. Fowler's ideas gained significant traction in the mid-to-late 19th century. The architect of the house is unknown. It is the only known octagonal house based on the domed colonnade shape of a Roman temple. The dome was added and the house was enlarged during 1872–1876 by Joseph Stiner, who was a tea importer. The Armour–Stiner House is said to be one of the most lavish octagon houses built in the period, and is now one of only perhaps a hundred still extant.In the 1930s, the house was owned by Aleko E. E. Lilius, a Finnish writer and explorer, and from 1946 to 1976 by historian Carl Carmer, who maintained that the house was haunted. In 1976, the house was briefly owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to prevent it from being demolished. The Trust was unable to fund the amount of renovation the property required, and sold it to the preservationist architect, Joseph Pell Lombardi, who has conserved and renovated the house, interiors, grounds and outbuildings.The house remains a private residence. It is located on the south side of West Clinton Avenue, on the crest of a hill overlooking the Hudson River, to the west. It is about 1650 feet from the river, and about 140 feet above it, consistent with Fowler's siting ideas. The Old Croton Aqueduct, another National Historic Landmark, abuts the property on the east. In September 2017, Lombardi offered the house for rent through Sotheby's, for $40,000 a month.

The Masters School (colloquially known as Masters), is a private, coeducational boarding school and day college preparatory school located in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Its 96-acre (390,000 m2) campus is located north of New York City in the Hudson Valley in Westchester County. It was founded as an all-girls private school in 1877 by Eliza Bailey Masters, and first admitted boys in 1996.

Dobbs Ferry is also the first village in New York State certified as a Climate Smart Community and was granted in 2014 the highest level given out in the state.

Estherwood is a late 19th-century mansion located on the campus of The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, United States. It was the home of industrial tycoon James Jennings McComb, who supported Masters financially in its early years when his daughters attended. The house's octagonal library was the first section built. It had been attached to McComb's previous home, but he had felt it deserved a house more in keeping with its style and so had architect Albert Buchman design Estherwood built around it.The interior features lavish decoration and detail, with generous use of marble and gold leaf. As the only significant châteauesque building in Westchester County, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1979 as Estherwood and Carriage House.
