Palamós (Catalan pronunciation: [pələˈmos]) is a town and municipality in the Mediterranean Costa Brava, located in the comarca of Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Palamós is located at the northern end of a large bay. The town is by-passed by the C31 which connects the coastal towns of the central Costa Brava with Girona. Palafrugell lies 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) to the north and Castell-Platja d'Aro 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the south.Palamós is a staging point on the GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Stage 8, to the north, follows the cliffs to the beach at La Fosca before taking an inland route to Calella de Palafrugell and then following the coast again through Llafranc, Tamariu and Fornells de Mar to the next staging point at Begur, a distance of 23.0 kilometres (14.3 mi). Stage 9, to the south, follows the beachfront promenade to Sant Antoni de Calonge and then the coast through Platja d'Aro and S'Agaró to the next staging point at Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a distance of 16.8 kilometres (10.4 mi).

The Estadi Municipal Palamós Costa Brava is a multi-use stadium located in Palamós, Catalonia, Spain. It is currently used for football matches and is the home stadium of Palamós CF.

La Fosca is a neighbourhood of the town of Palamós and a beach on the Costa Brava, located in the comarca of Baix Empordà and the province of Girona in Catalonia, Spain. La Fosca is situated between the port of Palamós and the fishing settlement of S'Alguer. The town is by-passed by the C31 which connects the coastal towns of the central Costa Brava with Girona. Palafrugell lies 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) to the north and Castell-Platja d'Aro 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the south.La Fosca is located at the northern end of a large bay, which is popular for swimming, sailing and windsurfing. Throughout most of the year very few people live there, but in summer the population of La Fosca grows quickly. La Fosca beach is known for the Roca Fosca, a large rock in the middle of the beach. Just to the east of the beach is the Castell de Sant Esteve de Mar, a ruined castle that predates the establishment of Palamós.The GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, crosses the beach at La Fosca. To the north the path follows the coast past the castle to the fisherman's village at S'Alguer and takes an inland route through pine and cork oak forests to the resort of Calella de Palafrugell. To the south the path follows the coast to the town of Palamós.

The Cala s'Alguer is a traditional fishing village on the Costa Brava coast of Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the municipality of Palamós, in the comarca of Baix Empordà and the province of Girona. The historical complex has been declared a cultural asset of national interest.The settlement dates back to the 16th century, and reflects how much of the Costa Brava would have looked before the arrival of tourism. The fishermen's huts lie by the shoreline and are sheltered by wooded area above. The buildings were intended to store boats and fishing gear, with stone walls and Catalan-style ceramic vaults. They have terraces and natural ramps for mooring boats.The GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, passes behind and above the huts. To the north the path follows the coast to Platja de Castell and then takes an inland route through pine and cork oak forests to the resort of Calella de Palafrugell. To the south the path follows the coast past the old castle of Sant Esteve de Mar to the resort of La Fosca.

The Castell de Sant Esteve de Mar is a ruined castle perched atop a cliff in the town of Palamós, in Baix Empordà, between La Fosca and the Cala s'Alguer. Only the bases of some towers and some walls remain, and is currently surrounded by a fence that prevents access to visitors. It is accessed from the path leading from the beach of Fosca to S'Alguer that forms part of the GR 92 long distance footpath.

Sant Antoni de Calonge is a town which forms part of the city of Calonge. It is located in the comarca of the Baix Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. The town was built along the rocky coastline of northern Spain. There is a seaside promenade that connects many neighboring towns. Sant Antoni de Calonge is between Platja d'Aro and Palamós.

Castell de la Fosca or Punta del Castell is an ancient Iberian settlement or oppidum sited on a rocky promontory at the north end of the beach called Platja de Castell, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) ENE of Palamós (Baix Empordà), on the Costa Brava. The settlement, which seems to have been inhabited from the 6th century BC to the 1st century AD, was protected by a wall and two square towers. Archaeologists, first in the 1930s and 1940s, and now in a series of excavations begun in 2001, have discovered 64 storage pits and two water cisterns, as well as pottery, amphorae (both locally made and imported), millstones, weights for fishing nets, lamps, agricultural tools and surgical instruments, coins, pieces of bronze, Iberian inscriptions, and the bases of two columns.

Vall-llobrega is a village and municipality in the province of Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The first evidence of human settlement in the Vall-llobrega area is the Dolmen de Montagut, on the top of Montagut hill between Vall-llobrega and Palamós. Dating from the 3rd or 2nd millennium BC, this has 3 slabs in their original state and the remains of a tomb that these once covered.

Calonge is a municipality in the comarca of the Baix Empordà in Catalonia, Spain, on the coastline of the Costa Brava. The town comprises two parts, a medieval hill village and modern seaside resort. The main urban centre and original village is about 4 km inland from the Bay of Sant Antoni. The towers and walls of Calonge castle date from the thirteenth century. Sant Antoni de Calonge, a resort, lies on the coast between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Palamós. The two parts are connected by GI-660 which then leads north through Las Gavarres mountains to La Bisbal d'Empordà. The C-31, the main north-south route through the Costa Brava splits the two parts. Some of the bests campsites of the Costa Brava are located here, such as Cala Gogo, Treumal and International Calonge.

The naval Battle of Les Formigues (Catalan) took place probably in the early morning of 4 September 1285 near Les Formigues Islands, Catalonia, about 85 km northeast of Barcelona, when a Catalan-Sicilian galley fleet commanded by Roger of Lauria defeated a French and Genoese galley fleet commanded by Guilhem de Lodeva, Henry di Mari, and John de Orrea. There are three almost completely different accounts of this battle: from Ramon Muntaner, Bernard Desclot, and the Gesta comitum Barchinonensium. The Gesta places the battle at Les Formigues (or Fomigas), while Muntaner favoured a location off Roses to the north. Either Lauria or the French were ashore for the night and encountered by the other, or they were both at sea when the encounter took place. The accounts agree that it happened at night, which was unusual for medieval naval battles, but suited Lauria who was skilled at night-fighting. He used two lanterns on each galley to increase his apparent numbers. Ten to sixteen Genoese galleys under John de Orreo fled, leaving about fifteen to twenty French galleys to be captured, and some others sunk or burnt.The troubadour Joan Esteve blamed treachery for the capture of the French admiral Guilhem. It is said that three hundred French prisoners were sent back to France. All of the prisoners but one had their eyes gouged out, and that one was left with one eye to guide the others. The prisoners brought one message from Roger of Lauria to the King of France: that not even fish would be able to navigate safely through Mediterranean Sea without a shield or sign of the king of Aragon on them.

The Formigues Islands (Catalan: Illes Formigues, Spanish: Islas Formigues) is an archipelago consisting of 16 small islands located three miles (4.8 km)from the port of Palamós, Girona Province, Catalonia, Spain. They lie facing the beach of Calella and Cap Roig. A lighthouse is located on the island of Formiga Gran (41º53'N 03º11'E). The islands are sometimes covered by waves when the sea is rough. The name of the islands is derived from the Catalan word for “ant,” referring to their size. Administratively, they are divided between the municipalities of Palamós and Palafrugell.The depths around the Formigues vary from 9 metres (30 feet) deep to more than 45 metres (148 feet) deep. The islands consist mostly of calcareous rock, with various caves and crags filled with rich marine vegetation, especially multicolored sea fans. The Battle of Les Formigues took place in the islands in 1285. The Spanish Ministry of the Natural, Rural and Marine Environment planned to declare the islands a nature reserve in 2009, prohibiting fishing in a designated area of 420 hectares. However, this was halted due to budgetary concerns.

Mont-Ras (Catalan; in Spanish, Montrás) is a village and rural district situated between the larger towns of Palafrugell and Palamos on the Costa Brava in Baix Emporda, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Mont-ras is approximately 40 minutes from Girona, or 80 minutes from Barcelona. The historic village centre sits just in the initial rise of the Gavarres hills and natural park, while the rest of the district extends across the plain to meet the Mediterranean sea at the rocky bay of El Crit just to the south of Cap Roig looking out to the Formigues Islands. The name Mont(hill)-ras(level) derives from this geographic situation. Although evidence of human habitation dates back to Roman times, the first mention of Mont-ras Torreolla came in the tenth century in reference to a watchtower that stood in at the approximate location of the current church of Saint Esteve (built 1599). Through the middle-ages Mont-ras was part of the domain of the Barons of Palafrugell and was administered as part of Palafrugell until it became a separate municipality in 1858.The elevated older village centre includes the church of Saint Esteve and the Ajuntament and a number of historic houses. The village area also includes a sports centre, library, Torre Jonama primary school (not to be confused with a school of the same name in Palafrugell). Recent developments have extended the municipality with the building of urbanisations of Torre Simone, La Roqueta, Molines and Canyelles. There are a number of factories, commercial units and potteries situated along the C31/C66 Palamós to Girona Road. The municipality includes a number of older fortified masia farms and towers (torres) built against the raiding of the Barbary pirates. The cove of El Crit (The Scream) takes its name from a legend of a local girl killed by pirates. In the hills behind the village are a number of disused mines and quarries along with cork trees that contributed to the local cork-making industries. The Mont-ras plain includes the Ruta de la Petit Tren walking and cycling route linking Mont-ras with the beaches of La Fosca, Castell and Calella de Palafrugell. As a result, the area is popular with walkers and mountain bikers. Mont-ras includes a number of campsites and the tennis club Costa Brava. Mont-ras football club is one of the many Costa Brava clubs that host the Mediterranean International Cup youth football tournament each Easter.
