Garrochburn Goods Depot

Loch Brown, also known in Scots as Loch Broun, Broon or Broom, was situated in a kettle hole in the mid-Ayrshire clayland near Crosshands. It is nowadays (2011) visible as a surface depression in pastureland, partially flooded, situated in a low-lying area close to farms and dwellings of Skeoch, Dalsangan, Ladebrae, Lochhill, and Crosshands, mainly in the Parish of Mauchline and partly in Craigie, East Ayrshire, Scotland. Duveloch is an old name for the loch and this may derive from the Gaelic Dubh, meaning black or dark loch.The loch was natural, sitting in a hollow created by glaciation. The loch waters drained via the Garroch Burn that flows into the Cessnock Water and thence into the River Irvine. The road from Tarbolton to Galston via the old Largie Toll (B744) passes close to the loch site, and close by stands the hamlet of Crosshands on the Carlisle Road (A76).

Mossgiel Tunnel Platform railway station (NS480292) was not a station constructed for public use. It stood close to the northern portal of the 680 yard Mossgiel Tunnel that runs under the Mossgiel Ridge and Skeoch Hill north of Mauchline, East Ayrshire, Scotland. It may have solely served the transportation requirements of the Glasgow and South-Western Railway and its successor in connection with the carriage of workers involved in the ongoing maintenance and/or the major reconstruction of Mossgiel Tunnel that took place between 1925 and 1927. It was not recorded in the 1896 G&SWR working time table and had closed sometime after July 1926.Garrochburn Goods Depot once stood near by on the B744 to the north, 6.82 from Kilmarnock and 2.72 from Mauchline. A line to Mauchline Colliery branched off close to the site of the station that opened in 1925 and closed to all traffic in February 1974 after serving as a coal washery for around 5 years after the colliery closed in 1969.

Carnell House is a mansion house and estate near the village of Hurlford about 5 miles (8.0 km) south-east of Kilmarnock in South Ayrshire, Scotland, 25 miles (40 km) from Glasgow. Carnell was previously known as Cairn Hill and dates back to 1276. The house is set within a 2000-acre Estate which is divided into gardens, woodlands and farms. The present form of the house dates back to 1843, although the earlier towers adjoin the newer additions. The house is home to the Findlay Family whose ancestry includes William Wallace. Ferrier-Hamilton, Hamilton-Findlay. It was built by the Wallace Family and in 1750 was referred to as ‘Cairnhill’ on General Roy's map of 1750. Colonel John Ferrier Hamilton later made considerable improvements to the Estate and in 1843 he commissioned William Burn to build a new house. Georgina Findlay-Hamilton, John's granddaughter, upon inheriting the estate in 1904, made further alterations and was responsible for initially cultivating the 10 acre gardens the estate has today. It then passed to her son-in-law and daughter, Commander and Mrs J B Findlay and then to her son John R Findlay in 1965. Garden House was built in 1973 inside the walled garden. The house is now owned by John's second son Michael who usually resides there with his family.The keep adjoining the house dates from the 15th century; it rises to three storeys and a garret, which has a parapet corbelled-out. The vaulted basement has a wide kitchen fireplace.

Mossgiel Farm (Mossgaville Farm or Mossgavel Farm in Old Scots) is an organic farm in Mauchline, East Ayrshire, Scotland. It was the home of Robert Burns between 1784 and 1788, and was where he composed many of his best-known works, including "To a Mouse, on Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough". At the time, it consisted of 118 acres (48 ha), and Burns and his brother, Gilbert, rented the property from Gavin Hamilton upon the death of their father.While living there, Burns became acquainted with a group of girls collectively known as the Belles of Mauchline — one of whom, Jean Armour, was the daughter of a local stonemason. The two developed a relationship, resulting in nine children, three of whom survived infancy. They were married in 1788.During Burns's time at the farmhouse, it was a single-storey But'n'Ben cottage containing three small rooms. It is a two-storey farmhouse today.

Whitehill Loch (NS 49240 33240), previously known as Hillhouse Loch was a freshwater loch in the East Ayrshire Council Area, now drained, near Galston, in the Parish of Riccarton, lying in a glacial Kettle Hole.

Lochlea or Lochlie (pronounced 'Lochli') was situated in a low-lying area between the farms and dwellings of Lochlea and Lochside in the Parish of Tarbolton, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The loch was natural, sitting in a hollow created by glaciation. The loch waters ultimately drained via Fail Loch, the Mill Burn, and the Water of Fail. It is well-documented due to the presence of a crannog that was excavated and documented circa 1878, and its association with the poet Robert Burns, who lived here for several years whilst his father was the tenant. Lochlea lies 2+1⁄2 miles (4 kilometres) northeast of Tarbolton, and just over three miles (five kilometres) northwest of Mauchline.

Bruntwood Loch (NS 50265 32454) was a freshwater loch, now drained, lying in a glacial kettle hole in Galston, East Ayrshire, Scotland.

The Lands of Dallars or Auchenskeith (NS463337) form a small estate in East Ayrshire, Hurlford, Kilmarnock, Parish of Riccarton, Scotland. The present mansion house is mainly late 18th-century, located within a bend of the Cessnock Water on the site of older building/s. "Dullers or Dillers" was changed to "Auchenskeith" or "Auchinskeigh" (sic) as well as other variants and then the name reverted nearer to the original form as "Dollars" and then finally "Dallars". Dallars lies 3.25 km south of Hurlford. For consistency the spellings 'Cuningham'; Dallars; Auchenskeith are used unless otherwise denoted (sic).

Mauchline Castle, also known as Abbot Hunter's Tower, is a rectangular tower house dating from the fifteenth century, in Mauchline, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The tower once formed part of a group of monastic buildings associated with Melrose Abbey, and today is a category A listed building.

Kays of Scotland is the only remaining UK manufacturer and supplier of curling stones. Founded in 1851, it retains exclusive rights to harvest granite from Ailsa Craig, granted by the Marquess of Ailsa. Kays of Scotland produces the only stones used in competition by the World Curling Federation and is the sole supplier of curling stones to the Winter Olympic Games.

Mauchline (; Scottish Gaelic: Maghlinn) is a town and civil parish in East Ayrshire, Scotland. In the 2001 census Mauchline had a recorded population of 4,105. It is home to the National Burns Memorial.

Mauchline railway station was a railway station serving the town of Mauchline, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The station was originally part of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.
