The Torchbearers is a 1962 bronze sculpture by Charles Umlauf, installed outside the Flawn Academic Center on the University of Texas at Austin campus in Austin, Texas, United States. It was cast in Milan at the Fonderia Battaglia.

Battle Hall, also known as the "Cass Gilbert Building" and "The Old Library," is a historic library on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. It is one of four buildings on campus that have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The others are the Littlefield House, University Junior High School (now the School of Social Work Building) and Little Campus (now called Arno Nowotny Building and John W. Hargis Hall). The building was designed by New York architect Cass Gilbert in 1911, using a Spanish-Mediterranean Revival style. It served as the main library until the new main building was completed in 1937. It now houses the Architecture and Planning Library, the Alexander Architectural Archives and the Center for American Architecture. The building's design, particularly its Spanish red tile roof, overhanging eaves and limestone walls, heavily influenced the 1933 master plan developed by Paul Cret, which in turn is a design requirement for new buildings on campus to this day. By the 1940s, the university's archival collections had outgrown their facilities. The Board of Regents voted to use the Cass Gilbert Building as a library once again, and after 1950, the expanding collections were rededicated as the Eugene C. Barker Texas History Center and moved into the "Old Library."

The Peter T. Flawn Academic Center (abbreviated FAC, formerly the Undergraduate Library and Academic Center) is an undergraduate library and "technology and collaboration" facility located on the University of Texas at Austin campus. The center, named after former university president Peter T. Flawn in 1983, opened between 1963 and 1964. Upon its opening, the building featured the first open-stack library on campus for undergraduates along with much of the Humanities Research Center.Among the permanent displays in the Center's Leeds Gallery is a re-creation of Perry Mason creator Erle Stanley Gardner's study along with personal effects. Charles Umlauf's sculpture The Torchbearers is located at the front of the building.

The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (UTSOA) is a college within The University of Texas at Austin, with its major facilities located on the main university campus in Austin, Texas. UTSOA's dean is Michelle Addington. In 2016, the school's former dean, Frederick "Fritz" Steiner, stepped down citing Texas Government Code Section 411.2031, also known as "Campus Carry," which entitles licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns onto the campus of an institution of higher education.UTSOA has nearly 700 graduate and undergraduate students. There are approximately 65 full-time faculty and 35 adjunct and part-time faculty. The student/faculty ratio is 10:1. The school has five faculty members that are Rome Fellows, including adjunct professor Coleman Coker, associate professors Hope Hasbruck, Mirka Benes, Nichole Wiedemann, and most recently, 2014 recipient Vincent C. Snyder. The school is located within the historical core of the University of Texas at Austin campus. As part of the original 40 Acres, the college fully occupies Goldsmith Hall, Sutton Hall, and Battle Hall. In 2007, Battle Hall was listed as one of America's Top 150 Favorite Works of Architecture by The American Institute of Architects (AIA),. UTSOA also occupies part of the West Mall Office Building. Two of these buildings were designed by Cass Gilbert and another by Paul Philippe Cret. Cret is credited as the designer of the campus master plan for The University of Texas at Austin, and helped to build the Beaux-Arts-style Main Building tower. Cret collaborated with Herbert M. Greene (of Texas firm Greene, LaRoche, and Dahl) and UTSOA Class of 1921 alumnus Robert Leon White for several of his projects.UTSOA celebrated its centennial in 2010, with a keynote by UTSOA alumnus Craig Dykers of Snøhetta.

Sutton Hall, originally called The Education Building, is a building on the University of Texas at Austin campus, serving as one of the three buildings supporting the School of Architecture, the others being Battle Hall and Goldsmith Hall. It was designed by Cass Gilbert, who also designed Battle Hall, the architecture library on the same campus. Originally, Sutton Hall housed the College of Education. In 1927, the University separated the Department of Psychology out of the Department of Philosophy, and moved Psychology out of Garrison Hall and onto the 3rd floor of Sutton Hall, where it would share space with the Department of Educational Psychology for the next 25 years.Today, Sutton Hall houses architecture studios, labs, and offices, including graduate admissions for the school.

On August 1, 1966, after stabbing his mother and his wife to death the previous night, Charles Whitman, a Marine veteran, took rifles and other weapons to the observation deck atop the Main Building tower at the University of Texas at Austin, and then opened fire indiscriminately on people on the surrounding campus and streets. Over the next 96 minutes he shot and killed 15 people, including an unborn child and one final victim who died from his injuries in 2001. Whitman also injured 31 others. The incident ended when two policemen and a civilian reached Whitman and shot him dead. At the time, the attack was the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in U.S. history, being surpassed 18 years later by the San Ysidro McDonald's massacre. It has been suggested that Whitman's violent impulses, with which he had been struggling for several years, were caused by a tumor found in the white matter above his amygdala upon autopsy.

The Main Building (known colloquially as The Tower) is a structure at the center of the University of Texas at Austin campus in Downtown Austin, Texas, United States. The Main Building's 307-foot (94 m) tower has 27 floors and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the university and the city.

Calhoun Hall (abbreviated CAL) is a building located on the University of Texas at Austin campus, built in 1968. The building is named after John William Calhoun, a mathematics professor, university comptroller from 1925 to 1937, and university president from 1937 to 1939.

Hogg Memorial Auditorium is a theater located on the University of Texas at Austin campus in Austin, Texas. The venue was the first theater at the university's campus when it was constructed in 1933.

The Union Building (also known the Texas Union Building or Student Union Building) is a building on the University of Texas at Austin campus, serving as a "college independent community center" or "living room" for students. Designed by Paul Cret, who also designed the Tower and Main Building, Goldsmith Hall and Texas Memorial Museum on the same campus, the Union was built in 1933 with funds provided by Texas Exes in a campaign led by Thomas Watt Gregory.Once constructed, the Union was one of four buildings on campus intended for recreation and entertainment, the other three being Gregory Gymnasium for Men, the Women's Gymnasium and Hogg Memorial Auditorium. The building hosts a bowling alley and formal ballroom.
