Martins Beach

Tunitas, California was a small unincorporated community in San Mateo County. It was originally located on State Route 1 until that state route was moved to the west. It was also renamed Lobitos.Arroyo de las Tunitas is shown on the diseños, about 1839, of the San Gregorio and Canada Verde grants. The name means “A small bush…grows super-abundant at and near its mouth, and its fruit is known to the present generation as sea apples.”

Lobitos (Spanish for "Little wolves") is a populated place in San Mateo County, just east of State Route 1 and south of Half Moon Bay and the ghost town of Purissima. It is 165 feet (50.3 m) above sea level.

Purissima is a ghost town in southwestern San Mateo County, California, United States, near the junction of State Route 1 and Verde Road. Purísima means "purest" in Spanish and is most commonly used in Spanish to refer to La Purísima Concepción (the Immaculate Conception) of the Virgin Mary (note historical misspelling in English resulting in double "s", or the result of the Holstein pronunciation with use of the "ẝ" being mistaken as ß "ss", or perhaps spelling comes from the local Portuguese influence, where the spelling from A Puríssima Conceição would be correct). Purissima is the name of the town used as the setting for Ross Macdonald's 1958 crime fiction novel 'The Doomsters'.

East Fork Tunitas Creek is a small river in San Mateo County, California and is a tributary of Tunitas Creek.The Tunitas Creek Association (TCA) is a conservation organization was founded in 2004. The current secretary, Pliny Keep, lives on the East Fork of Tunitas Creek. Tunitas Creek was last surveyed by the California Department of Fish and Game in 1967 and found to contain wild steelhead trout. We have seen smolts every year in the main fork, but the East Fork goes underground in sections during dry years.

Purisima Creek is an 8.0-mile-long (12.9 km) stream in San Mateo County, California which rises 1.3 miles (2.1 km) north of Sierra Morena, a mountain in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and flows westward to the Pacific Ocean 2.3 miles (3.7 km) south-southeast of Miramontes Point. Much of its watershed has been incorporated in the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve.

Rancho Cañada de Verde y Arroyo de la Purísima was a 8,906-acre (36.04 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Mateo County, California given in 1838 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to José María Alviso. The name roughly translates to ranch of the green glen and brook of the Purest (as in Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary). The grant extended along the Pacific coast from Purisima Creek south to Tunitas Creek and encompasses present-day Lobitos and the ghost town Purissima.

San Gregorio nude beach is two miles of soft sand and tide pools, plus a lagoon, a lava tube, and the remains of a railroad on the cliffs. It is north of San Gregorio State Beach.
