Canton of Fontenay-le-Comte

Fontenay-le-Comte (IPA: [fɔ̃tənɛ lə kɔ̃t]; Poitevin: Funtenaes or Fintenè) is a commune and subprefecture in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region of Western France. In 2018, it had a population of 13,302, while its functional area had a population of 41,273.

The Battles of Fontenay-le-Comte were fought on 16 May 1793 and on 25 May 1793 during the French Revolutionary Wars, between forces of the French Republic under Alexis Chalbos and Royalist forces under Marquis de Lescure and Charles de Bonchamps. The battle was fought near the town of Fontenay-le-Comte in Vendée, France, and ended in a Royalist victory. The first battle resulted in the town's successful resistance to the insurgent army; the second battle resulted in the Vendean victory.

The Castle of Terre Neuve is an historic château in Fontenay-le-Comte, Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France. It has been listed as an official historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture since 1978. The Castle of Terre Neuve was built in the 1580s and 1590s for Nicolas Rapin.
